We have a proud history

We are inspired by today’s role models

We have an exiting future Olympic sport LA 2028

Our mission is to elevate Squash in New Zealand by providing the best value to our participants and clubs

Our vision is simple: New Zealanders enjoying squash at every level, from grassroots to global excellence

Our sport embodies

• Family, friends, and community

• Social play and rivalry

• Competitive thrills and the joy of winning

• Fitness and fun

Currently, we have approximately 20,000 club members across over 180 clubs, with around 100,000 people playing squash every year in New Zealand.

Our commitment to the future is to grow the sport and support clubs through these essential changes.

Why further change?

• Revenue streams are under threat due to the changing nature of squash participation.

• iSquash is outdated and in need of modernisation.

• Current models lack consistency between Squash NZ Poipātū Aotearoa and Districts, and even between different Districts.

• The current levy model discourages accurate reporting of member and participant data by clubs.

• High value to capture accurate data on number of participants and enhance engagement.

• Mitigate against volunteer burnout.

We need

to modernise the

model

to

safeguard the sport’s future.
Let’s take the squash experience to the next level!

What’s Changing? MYSQUASH

MySquash is our new national membership database and grading list platform for use by competitive and casual players, administrators, officials, coaches, and supporters.

MySquash will fully replace iSquash, which is being completely rebuilt for competitions only and fully integrated together.

All clubs will easily manage MySquash subscriptions for their members to allow players to access a wide range of new and improved features.

Competition Management

• New National Competition Platform: A modern platform for managing all graded tournaments and interclub competitions.

• Enhanced Usability: More user-friendly with greater functionality, optimised for mobile.

• Casual Play Features: Introduces casual player ratings and the ability to create custom competitions.

Club Management (optional through Hello Club)

• Improved Member Experience: Saves valuable time for volunteers through automated new membership processing and renewals, court bookings, member communications, and optional club access and lighting control.

• Full MySquash Integration: Automated process to create and manage your new member’s MySquash profiles, saving volunteer time.

• Profile Switcher: Members will benefit by being able to switch between their club profile and MySquash features with two clicks.

What’s Changing?

A NEW AFFILIATION MODEL

• We are introducing a new affiliation model for clubs and a subscription method for players and supporters.

• Instead of charging clubs based on historical membership figures, the new model will be based on real-time member data making it more transparent, easier to budget, and simpler to understand.

• Clubs will continue to affiliate and pay a reduced annual club fee.

• Players will subscribe through MySquash to access affiliated member benefits, with various options tailored to their level of engagement with squash.

• For 2025 & 2026, clubs will manage and collect the player subscription fee for their members through the club membership fee. From 2027 onwards, clubs may choose to allow members to manage their own subscriptions independent of their club membership.

Fee Structure

1. Club Affiliation Fee:

Annual Fee: A one-off fee charged annually ranging between $300 - $3000.

Tailored Approach: Fees are determined based on three unique factorsthe club’s location (urban or rural), the number of squash courts, and the overall size of the club’s membership.

2. Player Subscription Fees:

Flexible Payment Options: Monthly, quarterly or annual payment options are available to align with your club membership offerings.

Subscription Tiers: Five distinct subscription options are available:

• Digital:

For all squash enthusiasts seeking online resources and updates.

• Support: Designed for referees, coaches, and other support roles.

• Lifestyle Player:

For casual players focused on fitness and fun. Non club members can subscribe independently, via an annual fee.

• Junior Player:

For junior players of all abilities under 19 years old. Non club members can subscribe independently, via an annual fee (some conditions apply).

• Competitive Adult:

For adult players participating in graded events and interclub competitions. Only available to club members.

Fee Charging for 2025 & 2026:

Integrated Membership: For the years 2025 and 2026, clubs will be invoiced for both their club affiliation fee and their member’s player subscription fees together.

Club Responsibility: Clubs will continue to set their membership fees, ensuring that the relevant SNZ player subscription is included.

Billing Schedule:

Twice-Yearly Invoicing: Squash NZ will invoice clubs twice annually:

• April: Club affiliation fee + player subscription fees.

• October: Additional player subscription fees for members joining after April.

Recent Change NEW GRADING SYSTEM

In 2024 we updated New Zealand’s grading structure with SquashLevels, a more accurate, globally aligned system catering to broader participant needs.

• New Grading Methodology: Instead of the traditional point-based ‘reward’ system, player movement between grades is now determined by change in their ‘Level’ - a ratio that measures current playing form. This is calculated using the advanced SquashLevels rating algorithm. This system places greater emphasis on player performance relative to expectations, rather than solely on match outcomes.

• Increased Fairness: Tournaments and playing orders are based on current playing form rather than historical past performance.

• Improved Alignment: Ongoing system calibration ensures players of any age, gender and location, on the same level, are as equal as possible.

• Fully Inclusive: New MySquash features in 2025 make it possible for non-graded players to have a Level, record results and measure their playing ability.

• Richer Match History: From 2025 non-graded in-house events such as club ladders and box leagues can be recorded, giving players a more complete match history and more accurate Level, at a lower weighting than graded events.

• Enhanced Features: Members have the option to upgrade their SquashLevels membership to unlock a broader range of analytic tools and insights.

• Ongoing Improvements: Based on annual data we will continuously review and refine SquashLevels particularly in the areas of

— Grading Bands: Reviewing and resetting the grading bands for better accuracy and grade distribution across the playing population.

— Team Seeding: Developing improved methods for seeding teams in events.

— Performance Analysis:

– Analysing matches where winning players experienced a decrease in their Level, considering frequency and level gaps.

– Investigating instances where a significantly lowerlevel player saw a Level decrease, assessing the same factors.

Superchamps Eligibility: Reviewing the eligibility grading list and composite team rules for Superchamps to ensure fair competition.
