A COMMUNITY MINDED HOLIDAY GUIDE

Thanksgiving Mindful Menu

A thoughtful guide to navigating the holiday season.

Approach the holiday with care, curiosity, and respect. There is room for many stories, feelings, and ways of gathering.

CARE · CURIOSITY · RESPECT

02 / MAKE ROOM

Traditions & Expectations

Traditions can be meaningful and they may not feel the same for everyone.

Expectations do not have to be met perfectly. Stay flexible. Make room for different experiences, needs, and ways of participating.

FLEXIBILITY IS PART OF THE TABLE

03 / HOLD THE FULL STORY

Complexity &

Colonialism Thanksgiving can hold mixed emotions and complicated histories.

The holiday is connected to Indigenous dispossession and colonialism. Choose learning and respect, and avoid assumptions about how others observe it.

LISTEN · LEARN · DO NOT ASSUME

04 / PROTECT YOUR PEACE

Family History & Social Pressure Family dynamics, grief, conflict, identity, food, alcohol, and travel can add pressure.

You can set boundaries, opt out when needed, and choose supportive conversations. You do not have to appear cheerful or participate in everything.

BOUNDARIES ARE A VALID FORM OF CARE

05 / CHECK IN WITH YOURSELF

Mental Health Small choices can help you move through the day with more steadiness.

Pause and check in. Plan breaks. Limit overwhelming conversations. Try a grounding or breathing exercise. Connect with a trusted person. Seek professional support if needed.

THERE IS NO SINGLE RIGHT WAY TO EXPERIENCE THE HOLIDAY
