AT A GLANCE: ATHLETICS
For several decades, St. Philip’s has provided arguably the largest and most diverse athletics program for 4- to 14-year-olds in the southern sector of Dallas.
Saints Homecoming Highlights
This year, nearly 600 people came out to support and cheer on our SAINTS at St. Philip’s Homecoming! The Saints played several football games accompanied with lots of food and fun. The Saints 12U football team lost 0-7, our flag football team took home the win, 21-0 and our Tiny Mites had a tie game 14-14. Throughout the day, everyone in attendance enjoyed food trucks selling snow cones, turkey legs, and more. There was plenty of fun for children to enjoy – from face painting to bounce houses.

Regional Semi-Final Champions
Our Saints Junior Pee Wee team are the Southwest Regional Champions. They traveled all the way to Colorado and took home the win. Congratulations to our Saints on an amazing football Season.
Meet A Stellar Former Saint - Brandon Averette
It’s all about a positive mentality for St. Philip’s Alum, Brandon Averette, who strives to see and be all that God has for him and his life. Averette is currently a redshirt Junior for the Utah Valley University Wolverines, where he is majoring in Communications. Last year, he made the difficult but mature decision to transfer from Oklahoma State University. When he thinks about his future, Averette hopes to play professionally and open his own gym to teach youth basketball skills; giving them opportunities to play like he had through St. Philip's.
In fact, Averette credits the man he is today to St. Philip’s. He attended the school from Pre-K through 5th grade and began his athletic career on the community center’s courts. “St. Philip’s made me who I am in basketball, school, and in life. It prepared me for the real world,” he said.
After leaving St. Philip’s, Averette attended public school and quickly gained an appreciation for his St. Philip’s experience, particularly the exposure to his cultural and historic roots. He also believes St. Philip’s made him a stronger athlete by showing him a different side of life in a tough part of town and allowing him to share the court with some tremendously talented players. This helped him with empathy and his edge and demeanor on the basketball court.
As he gets older, Averette says he notices the distractions that come with life, but he will keep moving forward to his goals and aspirations. Great things lie ahead!
