What a Year!
A Message from Head of School Dr. Laura Fiveash Dear SVS Community, It is with great gratitude that I share with you this year’s milestones of Spring Valley School (SVS), made possible by the support of our families, faculty, staff, board, volunteers, community collaborators, and philanthropic supporters. It was another pivotal year of growth at SVS. Two more learning cottages were established on campus to provide 4 additional classrooms and spaces to facilitate programs related to college and career preparation. Our largest team of faculty to-date included the latest additions of a Speech Language Pathologist and a Research Director. These roles collaborated to implement Aimsweb technology for benchmarking and progress monitoring of student success in reading and mathematics. Our faculty is dedicated to continuous learning and professional development. This year, all 45 members of our faculty had the opportunity to travel to Nashville, Tennessee to collaborate with fellow LD school Currey Ingram Academy. Additionally, the Association of LD Schools (ALDS) was officially established, and I am honored to serve on its founding board. The Association will enable LD schools, nationwide, to continue to share resources with one another that leverage our shared mission of making futures bright for students with learning differences. At Spring Valley, we diligently celebrate and enhance the unique strengths, talents, and interests of each individual student. This year, we hosted our inaugural Family Heritage Day and Fine Arts Day. Finally, the Class of 2023 was comprised of 7 SVS graduates currently attending the college of their choice and/or employed. Thank you for being integral members of the SVS Community, and for joining us in the important work of making futures bright for students who learn differently - and remarkably. Featured Community Partner Church of the Highlands at Grandview July 15, 2023 - Spring Valley School was honored to partner with Church of the Highlands (Grandview) for Serve Day as we prepared the school grounds and facilities for the upcoming school year. We had 100+ volunteers spend the morning with Spring Valley staff and families to complete various projects such as power washing, distributing pine straw and mulch, clearing the trail, painting, installing fencing and a barrier around the playground, and so much more! Before leaving, volunteers made colorful signs of encouragement to welcome SVS students on the first day of school.
