The Scottish football legend, 78, will leave his role as Bairns Technical Director after finally deciding to call it a day

Smith, best man at Scotland Hall of Fame legend Billy Bremner’s wedding, will end nearly 60 years in the game to move to Australia.

The Bairns are set to honour Smith in their final league match of the season against one of Smith’s former sides St Mirren.

A club statement said: “The club look forward to celebrating the achievements of Alex and thanking him for his unwavering service and commitment during his time at The Falkirk Stadium on Saturday 28th April, with further information on this occasion to follow in the coming weeks ”

Smith began his playing career at Kilmarnock, before spells with Stenhousemuir, Stirling Albion, East Stirling and Albion Rovers.

Smith’s most recent spell in charge earlier this season saw him named the oldest manager in Europe before Paul Hartley’s managerial appointment.

Smith was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame two years ago
