Rayshaughn E. Armant (Ensemble/Buster/ Mister Understudy) is thrilled to make their Springer Opera House debut as the Preacher in the Color Purple! They recently graduated from Northwestern State University of Louisiana with Bachelors in both Musical Theatre and Music Business. Since graduating they’ve performed all over their hometown of New Orleans, La and have gained new skills working at the New Orleans Record Press. Their favorite roles to date include Audrey 2 in Little Shop of Horrors, Themselves in Ring of Fire, and Lord Glossop in Jekyll and Hyde. Lorenzo Battle (Ol’ Mister) is excited to be walking in the footsteps of Old Mr. Johnson In The Color Purple. His last performance on The Springer Main Stage was as Rev. Sykes in To Kill A Mockingbird. His movie roles include as Larry Johnson in Zack Lee’s “The Domino Effect” and Nathan in “Things Don’t Stay Fixed.” Diontae Black (Ensemble) is excited to be back on stage in his second production with the Springer. He is a graduate of Auburn University (B.A. Music, B.F.A. Musical Theatre 2019) You may have seen him in the Ensemble of Dreamgirls! Some of his other roles are Big Fish (Ensemble) , Spamalot (Sir Galahad), or the Opera, Marriage of Figaro (Bartolo). Ariana Britton (Ensemble) This is Ariana’s first production with the Springer. She is very excited to be performing with a talented cast. Ariana is a 10th grade student at Northside High School. She would like to thank her parents and dance teacher, Tamela Ransom, for giving her the opportunity to participate in this production.
Micah Courtland (Ensemble) is thrilled to be back for his 5th show at the Springer. He is currently a Senior at Columbus State University pursuing his B.A in Theatre with a minor in dance. You may have seen Micah recently on the Springer stage as The Big Bad Wolf in Shrek The Musical, an Aggie in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, or as a knight in Monty Python’s Spamalot. Micah would like to thank his family and friends for all of their continuous love and support. Chelcy Cutwright (Shug Avery) is an Atlanta based actor/teaching artist. She is thrilled to be back at Springer doing what she loves! Springer credits include: Steel Magnolias, Shrek The Musical, Winter Wonderrettes, Kudzu the Musical, Ace: The Eugene Bullard Story, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Dreamgirls, and Singing In The Rain. She is from Charleston, SC and attended Furman University. Some of her favorite roles include playing (Sarah) in Ragtime, (Hope) in Urinetown, (Pilar) in Legally Blonde, (Diana Ross) in a Motown Revue at Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theater, (Joanne) in Rent, working as a performer at Universal
BIOS Studios Japan, and singing with a girl group, named Ebone, on Showtime at the Apollo in New York. Jael is also an accomplished songwriter and her latest album “Red Bridge Sunrise,” and other original songs can be found on Apple Music and Spotify. Jael would like to thank her family, mentors, and supportive group of friends who continue to support her. Sheila Green (Church Lady) is the mother of three sons and seven grandchildren. By no means is she a stranger the Springer’s stage. Her first production was in the eighties, and she was in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. In the early 90s, she was cast in Big River, where she sang the ever so popular solo in the funeral scene. Some of her favorite productions in which she appeared include Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Purlie Victorious, in which she played the role of Aunt Missy. Sheila will be touring the country during the month of December with JPM Ministries out of Concord North Carolina taking on the role of The Spirit of Christmas Present in a hilarious production entitled Ebenezer Scrooge. You may have recently seen her on the Springer stage as Ouiser in Steel Magnolias. None of this would have been possible without God’s blueprint , and without the love and support of her family. Hazina Grimes (Ensemble) is happy to be here for her first production at the Springer. She is class of 22’ graduate from Carver High School. This is Hazina’s acting debut. She would like to thank her coach/dance instructor Tamela Ransom who really opened her eyes to theatre and the world of dance. Hazina would also like to thank her other dance instructors at Passion Works Dance Academy. Henry Rivers, Ashley Sparks, and Christopher De’Angelo. She cannot forget her family and friends who encourage her to be great. Reality Hendrix (Ensemble/Shug Avery and Church Lady Understudy) reigns from Dallas, Texas, she received her Bachelors of Fine Arts
in Musical Theater at Drake University in May of 2021. She is so excited to join the Springer Opera House family. Latashia Jackson (Church Lady), a Columbus Georgia native, is a well known singer/ musician in the local and surrounding areas. Latashia debuted in the memorable musical “Magic Motown Musical” in 2019, held at the RiverCenter for Performing Arts, where she portrayed Aretha Franklin. Latashia is an established and well known singer and musician in the Gospel community as well as the Rhythm Blues and Soul Music community. This is Latashia’s first production with the Springer Opera House.

Joel PE King* (Mister) is a native of East Saint Louis. Graduating from SIU Edwardsville, Joel attained a B.A. in Studio Arts with a minor in music and theater. Recently obtaining his Master of Arts in Mass Communication with emphasis in Education, Joel aspires to use his degree to further progress his arts and entertainment endeavors. Joel is a talent with Talent Plus Agency in St. Louis, MO. He’s a member of the Screen Actors Guild/AFTRA and Actors Equity Association. Theater credits that precede Joel are: Pipeline, Amen Corner, Spunk, Knock Me a Kiss, Raisin in the Sun, Colored Museum, Immigrant Project, In the Blood, Dutchman…. Musical credits are: Real Life Hip hopera, Big River, Damn Yankees, Bubblin Brown Sugar, Ain’t Misbehavin, The Color Purple, The Sam Cooke Story, Complancency of Silence. Joel’s film credits include: Pieces of a Dream to star Raz B, Ishmeal Meet the Grave of Haagar and award winning movie Ruzzian Roulette. His recent movie credits include MMG’s “Stratosphere” and Kim Conner’s “Before I Do” to star Jensen Atwood, Omar Gooding and Andrea Kelly. His upcoming project, War-Angel, an independent film series is slated to shoot at the beginning of Spring 2022. “He aims to inspire the world.” -JPEK Ari McLean (Nettie) is excited to be back for her third mainstage, and fourth production at the Springer Opera House. She is a recent graduate from Columbus State University with a degree in Business Management. You may have also seen her in Shrek the Musical (Humpty Dumpty), Wizard of Oz (Ensemble), and Mother of Rain (Wheeden). Ari would like to thank her parents, sister, and close friends for always supporting her. Rosa Mohammed (Church Lady) is excited to be in her first production at the Springer. She is a graduate of University of Arizona with a Bachelors Degree in Behavioral Science and Health. Rosa would like to thank all of her close friends and family for their support. Tamela Ransom (Ensemble) is excited to be back for her third production at the Springer. She is currently the dance and
theatre teacher at Carver High School, the coordinator of the Tigerettes’ Dance and Flag team, and the owner of Passion Works Dance Academy. You may have seen her in Akeelah and the Bee (Akeelah’s Mom) and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Ensemble). Her most important and loved role is being a mother to her three beautiful children, Allen, Melanie, and Maliyah. Ometrise Richmond (Pa/Guard) is a graduate of Central High School. This is his Springer debut. Some of his favorite show credits are Tinman in The Wiz, Jimmy Early in Dreamgirls, Gitlow in Purlie, and I’ve Got The Music In Me. Ometrise thanks all of his supporters. Some favorite past shows include Rent (Angel), Hairspray (Seaweed), Aida (Mereb), Memphis (Gator), Escape To Margaritaville (Jamal) and Sister Act (Sweaty Eddie). He studied musical theatre at Circle in the Square in NY. He has performed on Norwegian Cruise Line as a Production Singer, has done national tours and has worked around the world in several professional theatre productions. He would like to thanks his brother Keith McCoy for this opportunity. He hopes everyone sits back, relaxes, and enjoys the show! BIOS Alicia Thompson (Ensemble/Olivia) is ecstatic to be in her twelfth production with The Springer Opera House while also returning to the stage for the first time since the pandemic! During her hiatus she had the pleasure of teaching English online to her students in China and also aiding our local citizens at the Columbus Police Department as a 911 Call Taker. She is excited to now be pursuing her passion to perform full-time and thanks GOD for the opportunity. Anitra Thompson (Ensemble) is overjoyed and excited to take the stage for her eleventh Springer production. She is currently a drama teacher for Drama Kids International Incorporated. You may have seen her in shows like Evita (Ensemble), Elf the Musical (Ensemble), or A Christmas Carol (Hillie). Some of her favorite roles include Ronnette in Little Shop of Horrors, Kelsi in High School Musical, and Alicia in Shakespeare Unbound. Anitra would like to thank her parents, nephews and family, and God for always supporting her. Robert Trammell (Ensemble/Bobby) is a Georgia native pursuing his passion for acting in both Theatre and Film/ Television. After being in various productions around the city, and earning his B.F.A. in Theatre/ Performance from Columbus State University, Trammell is incredibly excited to be back in the community he loves, and forever grateful for the Springer, and the opportunity to share this story. Jamila Turner (Ensemble/Celie Understudy) is no stranger to Columbus or the Springer Opera House. She has worked at the Springer Academy the Summers of 2017 and 2018 as the Scene Study Teacher and she is currently the Drama teacher at Paul D. West Middle School in Atlanta, GA. She has acted in several plays such as Georgia Repertory Theatre’s Hairspray as Motormouth, Mrs. Muller in Onstage Atlanta’s Doubt, and Fannie in Cloverdale Playhouse’s production of Flyin’ West. She has also directed a few, most notable CSU’s
production of Intimate Apparel, and CSU’s Busted Open Canon Staged Readings of the Paradise Blue, Detroit 67, and Skeleton Crew. Her motto is that of her mother’s “I will allow my work to speak for me.” Joshua Walters (Ensemble) is excited to be back for his third production with the Springer. You may have seen him in Shrek the Musical (Pig 3) or in Spamalot (Knight). Some of his favorite roles were Jimmy in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Uncle Henry in Wizard of Oz, Romeo in Newsies, and Ursula in The Little Mermaid. Joshua Walters would like to thank his friends and family for all the love and support. Debrinja Watts (Ensemble) attends Columbus State University as a BA Theatre and Spanish Major. She is beyond excited to be apart of her 3rd Springer Production. You might have seen her in Springer’s Evita and Cinderella, as well as the CSU productions Milk Like Sugar and Pipeline. Nothing compares to the love and support her mother and sister show and would like to thank them for their constant encouragement. She loves you to the moon and back! She also hopes everyone enjoys the show. Ta’Varis Wilson (Ensemble/Grady) received a BA in Speech and Theatre from Albany State University and a MFA in Acting from Regent University. He currently serves as Director of Theatre at Albany State University. Some of his favorite credits include Doctor Faustus in Doctor Faustus, El Gallo in The Fantasticks, Roger in Grease, and Man in Crowns. He was last seen on the Springer sage as Carl/Tru Tone in Dreamgirls. He would like to dedicate this performance to God and the countless black women in his life who chose love instead of hate. PRODUCTION BIOS Keith McCoy (Director/Choreographer) has worked successfully as a theatre professional for more than twenty years and is the Springer’s Resident Artist. He is a native of Portsmouth, Va., and graduate of Norfolk State University. Keith Patrick McCoy is a creative, skilled professional actor, director, choreographer, writer, and arts educator. As a performer his endeavors have allowed him to work in all types of venues, from indoor to outdoor, regional theatres, summer stock companies, national tours, and theme parks throughout the United States. He has also performed at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world and takes place in Scotland’s capital city. Debbie Anderson (Music Director) has prepared choral and instrumental ensembles at the Springer since 1998 and now serves as the Springer’s full-time Music Director. Her acting credits with the Springer include Why, Baby, Why: The Music of George Jones and Tammy Wynette (which she helped create and restage), The King & I (Anna Leonowens), The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Miss Mona), Phantom (Belladova), Honky Tonk Angels (Angela), Ragtime (Mother) and Damn Yankees (Meg). Debbie also serves as adjunct voice faculty for the Schwob School of Music at Columbus State University. David McCray (Assistant Director) is a professional arts administrator, director, and graduate of Columbus State University with a B.A. in Theatre. Since graduating, he has returned to the department of theatre at CSU as their Box Office Coordinator and works part-time in the Springer Box Office. In addition to running their box office, David has assisted in directing numerous productions for CSU’s Mainstage Series. Rebecca Gossett (Production Stage Manager) recieved her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Technology from Columbus State University in 2014 and
has been the Springer’s full-time Production Stage Manager ever since. She personally stage manages most of the Springer’s mainstage series as well as oversees the stage management teams for the studio and children’s theatre productions, as well as oversees the Springer’s internship program with Columbus State University theatre students. Beginning this July, she will step into a new position as the Springer’s Company Manager. Jess Adams (Assistant Stage Manager) earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Columbus State University in 2016. They are the former Production Manager / Production Stage Manager of Majestic Repertory Theatre in Las Vegas, running the immersive regional premiere of The Manson Family and leading stage management for Sweeney Todd. In July, Jess will assume the Production Stage Manager role here at the Springer, where their previous credits include Mother of Rain (World Premiere), ACE: The Eugene Bullard Story (World Premiere), Million Dollar Quartet, Jackie & Me, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, and Kudzu: The Musical. jessadamssm.com Matthew Swindell (Scenic Designer) is the Springer’s Director of Production. He graduated from Columbus State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Technology. He has worked on many Springer productions over the past ten years in a variety of different roles including Director, Scenic Designer, Lighting Designer, Technical Director, and Road Manager for the Springer’s touring company, Springer Theatricals. You may also remember Matthew from his time on stage as Teddy Roosevelt in the Springer’s 2017 production of Newsies. Krystal Kennel (Lighting Designer) is a Professor of Theatrical Design at Columbus State University. Originally from Michigan, she has worked at various theatres and colleges across the country including Swamp Gravy (Colquitt), Hartford Stage
Company (Conn.), Dallas Theater Center, Madison Repertory Theatre (Wisc.), The Ohio Light Opera, Wagner College (New York) and the University of Wisconsin - Madison. Her Springer productions include Cinderella, ELF, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Steel Magnolias and The Producers. Patti Jo Fenzel (Properties Designer) earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater Design and Technology from CSU in 2010 and has worked in theaters around the country including Florida Repertory Theater, Texas Shakespeare Festival and Opera New Jersey. Julianne Slaton (Sound Designer/ Audio Engineer) is a graduate of CSU where she earned a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology with a focus on Sound Design and Audio Engineering. She started at the Springer as a volunteer and transitioned to working here full time for the 2015 production of A Chorus Line. She has since enjoyed working as the Resident Sound Designer and Audio Engineer for almost every Springer production thus far, and looks forward to all of the future productions to come. Alex Allison (Costume Designer) has been working as a costume and wig designer across the US and also worked with Norwegian Cruise Lines as a Production Wardrobe Supervisor. He worked on shows like Jersey Boys, Swing the Musical and an original production of Warren Carlyle’s Havana! Alex grew up in Lincoln, NE and began performing at local community theatres at a young age. His favorite costume and wig design credits include Grease and Stardust Road at Temple Theatre in Sanford, NC; Hairspray at Pinewood Bowl Inc. in Lincoln NE; Guys and Dolls at The Stage Theater in Hickman, NE; Wigs for Bonnie and Clyde at The Stage Theater in Hickman, NE; The Drowsy Chaperone at The Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, MA; and The Fantasticks at The Monomoy Theatre in Chatham, MA.

Paul R. Pierce (Producing Artistic Director) has led the Springer Opera House as producing artistic director since 1988, taking the State Theatre of Georgia to new artistic heights while expanding its audience and influence throughout the nation. The Springer has conducted major facility expansions and historic preservation projects under Paul’s leadership and established the Springer as a leader in Columbus’ economic, tourism and film industry development. For 34 years, Paul has directed and produced more than 300 comedies, dramas and musicals at the Springer. A Rome, Georgia native with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia, he is an Equity actor who has performed in over 1,000 American and Canadian cities with stock, regional, touring and children’s theatre companies. He is the former associate director at Repertory Theatre of America, the former managing director of Virginia’s Wayside Theatre and the former producing artistic director at the Harbor Playhouse in Corpus Christi, Texas. Paul is the author of nine plays and The Springer Ghost Book.
