01 Exploring Mycelium MLA2 Design Project 23’

Location : Snowdown Colliery, Kent, UK Area : 124 acres Theme : It aims to preserve and expand the ancient forests while rehabilitating abandoned coal mines using Mycelium.

Background l Existing Map This analysis focused on the environmental, economic, and cultural aspects, focusing on the snowdow coal mine. A village for miners was formed, however now it has declined economically and the industrial heritage is left unattended. There is a need for a plan to increase local area value while spreading the ancient woodland around it

Site Analysis l Soil Condition, Chromatography The possibility of the site was examined by comparing the soil quality with the surrounding ancient woodland.

C: Snowdown Colliery B: Oxenden Ancient Woodland SSSI-grade ancient forests near the site have abundant habitats and coppicing forest management takes place.

Therefore, it was expected that the activity of microorganisms and the quality of the soil would be high.

Chromatography is not an accurate representation of the names or numbers of nutrients in the soil, but it can be a good way to understand your soil in situations where site access or analysis method is limited.

mycelium helps to increase nutrients available to plants, improve water efficiency, reduce erosion by acting as a cellular net, and promote root growth by adding oxygen to the soil and releasing nitrogen, phosphate, and other micronutrients. These characteristics are expected to help plant growth while purifying heavy metal contamination at the site. Based on the data that grows at about 6-7 mm a day, the mycelial hot spot was determined by simulating when applied to the site

Mycelial hotspots are largely proposed in three ways: tiles, walls, and pavilions. This method can reduce carbon by using waste from ancient forest coppicing methods and improve soil while increasing economic , environment and industrial value

Existing concrete foundation blocks on the site Concrete foundation blocks remain around the building within the site. Vegetation such as moss shrubs is growing around it. Use the characteristics of the site to create a microbial environment.

Mycelium panel Mushroom cultivation is possible by installing a mycelium panel on the wall, and the ground level and various level steps can provide an environment in which more microorganisms can grow.

Zone 3: Mycelium Pavilion Mycelium pavilion create a mycelium hotspot to create a connection and buffer zone between ancient forests and activity zones. By providing a canopy, it can be a resting place and people can closely observe the mycelium

02 Beyond the Route MLA1 Design Project 22’

Location : Jubilee Greenway, Newham, UK Theme : Green infrastructure is to be expanded and connected where barriers have been cut off due to the development of water and sewage.

Site Analysis

It aims to narrow the regional gap by drawing out the landscape potential of the site and will be reviewed as a new public space in the area.

Design Key

Green Space & Biodiversity - Green areas and drainage facilities are expand to alleviate continuous temperature and precipitation problems.

- Trees are planted and biodiversity is secured to reduce noise and air pollution around the A124 road.

Use of Industrial Waste & Facilities - Consider sustainable design using waste rubbles from nearby construction sites.

- Expose existing industrial facilities and utilize abandoned areas.

Expand Connections - Increase connection points to ease access restrictions between two areas.

- Add programs that enable greenways and highlight regional characteristics of different classes - To alleviate the vulnerability of public transportation by activating bicycle paths.

Zone1

EXPECTATION It is the main access point from the nearest Station to Jubilee Greenway. To the south direction, it has an open view of the Canary Wharf, which is designed as a space where people can gather while securing it. It will use Gebion Wall, which uses demolition materials from its newly built council house in Newham district.

Zone2

DISCOVERY Exposing the pipe to the outside can help people understand the initial reason why the site started.

A mound is created to remind people of the hiking experience by giving them curves that change up and down. The bricks at the time of construction are used as materials that connect the past and the present.

MEANDERING Considering the constraints that cannot be raised or demolished due to sewage pipes or surrounding residential areas, the level change that has been raised and lowered is presented horizontally. People can experience synesthesia through narrowing and widening changes. The nearby hospital is a place with many local residents and visitors, and a small public space is designed to expand and connect existing separated spaces.

ENJOYMENT It is based on a design that allows visitors to explore various plants in consideration of nearby elementary schools and provides pleasure. The small difference in the landscape that changes from right to left move and the level of 3 ~4 steps will provide joy such as playfulness and laughter.

ACHEVEMENT The route to climb a small 28m high mountain is developed as the last point of the Jubilee Greenway Route. A bridge is installed on the existing site to connect to the mountain, and a sculpture bench is installed at the top of the mountain so that it can become one of the landmarks. The view of Newham from the top of the mountain will be a new experience.

03 Revealing Shoreline MLA2 Design Project 22’

Location : Margate, Kent, UK Theme : declined, the zone of the swimming pool using tide will be reorganized to increase the use of residents and visitors

Background

Site

Design Project Site is a 40-minute walk from Margate Station. Overall, access to public transportation to the Margate coastline seems inconvenient. Trams were operated in the past, but have not been in operation since 1937, and the bus stop is in a residential area four blocks away. However, we can find many artists on foot within about 3km from the station to Palm Bay Beach. We can find the works and traces of T.S. Eliott, who wrote part of the waste land, William Turner, who painted the landscape, Tracy Emin and Antony Gormley.

Built: 1937 Size: 4 acres (Wide: 300ft * 550ft, Deep: 6ft) -UK’s the largest tidal pool -Fresh water rise from inside the pool wall

-Large sandy beach -In 1910 there was a bathing pavilion, however it was demolished by storm

The project site is a coastal area with a length of about 1 km, featuring tidal pools and sandy beaches.

Access to inclined lamps or stairs is possible on a coastal cliff top with an average height of 12m. Due to the tidal phenomenon, the landscape continues to change over time, and rocks and sandy beaches on the coast are particularly affected.

Walpole Tidal Pool : The water level at high tide and low tide is constant, and fresh water comes out of inside the pool, which has the possibility of vegetation. It expands and promotes users to a familyoriented range with visitors and connects new routes to existing structures to enable swimming, walking and discovering of shoreline. In preparation for the gradual rise of sea level, there is a terrace-type level from the pathway to the beach. By creating floating gardens and walking pathway in response to changes in sea level, we can discover new landscapes that change according to the action of the tide. and I would like to reduce carbon footprint by using eco-friendly materials.

04 Hanmi Pharmaceutical Co. Bioplant Project Work Experience l Group Project

Location : Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi-do, Korea Lot area : 39,656 m² Bldg. area : 6,296 m² Theme : Hanmi Pharmaceutical's second plant is a GMP production facility of Biotechnology, which has special characteristics for the production process in the pharmaceutical sector. Construction of the building began in 2016 and was completed in 2018, requiring additional detailed landscaping work on existing basic plants.

It is a large-scale reclamation project located in the southwest of Korea where basic civil engineering and vegetation stabilization work were carried out to be used as a site for agricultural-related industries. Since vegetation was difficult due to salt water, a total of 40 wildflowers and grasses were proposed and installed by comparing germination rates among 150 types distributed in Korea.

6. Slope Stability

A total of 44 species were selected in consideration of germination supply and demand and settlement by selecting 150 species of green seeds distributed in Korea.

This is a type with a germination rate of more than 85% among the select list.
