A message from the President

I

n the year following our milestone 60th Anniversary, the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce remains thankful for the community’s support over the years. As part of our celebration, we drew attention to the many businesses and organizations that have consistently supported us over six decades. Without the community’s support, the Chamber would not exist and continue to thrive, which in turn helps to keep our unique community intact for future generations.

In the coming year, the Chamber will continue our mission to promote the Bethlehem Community in the many ways that we do…through support of our local businesses and non-profit organizations; by highlighting Bethlehem as a viable business location for new and growing endeavors; as a resource to residents and those looking to relocate to town and through participation in numerous community projects and events which affect the quality of life in our town. Our initiatives work to highlight the special community we live in, encouraging residents and businesses to work together to support our community for economic and social progress.

So watch for the Bethlehem Chamber’s yearly events –

Jennifer Kilcoyne our Annual Awards Dinner, now in its 33rd year, which brings

to light the good work that business owners and citizens do all year in order to keep our community strong; Our annual Restaurant Week promotion where our local establishments highlight their best cuisine and invite the community and greater Capital Region to dine and enjoy special menus; Our Annual Golf Outing, now in its 32nd year, brings the community together for a casual, fun day of golf and connections; And lastly our Buy Local promotions – including Small Business Saturday, our Holiday Shopping Card and the Shop BETHLEHEM Gift Card.

All of these initiatives offer the public a way to remember and support our unique local businesses, in order to strengthen our community.

The Senior Services Department provides information and referrals to services and programs for independently living residents of the Town of Bethlehem age 60 and older.

Town of Bethlehem Recycling Dan Rain, Recycling Coordinator H D E A E S NY 121 8 18 9 9 1 10 Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Recycling Days are held in the spring and fall during which the Highway Garage accepts cleaners, paints, thinners and solvents, and other household hazardous wastes along with electronics for recycling or safe disposal. Community Recycling Stations are in place for paper/cardboard, clothing and textiles, and other items.

Open Spaces

Albany County Helderberg Hudson Rail Trail - Owned and managed by Albany County with the cooperation of partners including the Town of Bethlehem and the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy, which operates the Trail Ambassador program through its Friends of the Rail Trail committee.

The full 9 miles of the trail is open to the public and is paved from the Port of Albany through the Slingerlands trail head, where it continues unpaved through the terminus in Voorheesville.

Five Rivers - Five Rivers Environmental Education Center is a living museum comprising over 450 acres of broad fields, towering forests, and tranquil wetlands. Five Rivers offers people of all ages a rich variety of guided and self-guided opportunities to encounter nature directly.

Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy - The Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy is Bethlehem’s neighborhood land trust, working since 1992 to improve the quality of life for Bethlehem residents.

MHLC preserves fields and forests, protects wildlife habitat, and preserves the character of Bethlehem. MHLC owns and operates 18 nature preserves, 6 of which are located in Bethlehem. MHLC also offers many community events and programs throughout the year including hikes, naturalist programs, and a summer festival. For more information, visit www.mohawkhudson.org.

Pine Hollow Arboretum - The Pine Hollow Arboretum is a 25-acre, member-supported, not-forprofit arboretum and nature preserve situated five miles from downtown Albany, in Slingerlands, New York. The arboretum’s cataloged collection consists of over 3,300 unique trees, shrubs and other woody plants from around the world.
