A kallah who cries herself to sleep worrying how her widowed mother will be able to afford the expenses of her chassunah. A kallah on her own, without parents, planning her modest wedding herself. A kallah, far from home, whose parents can’t afford to travel to her wedding…

T

he time of engagement should be the happiest time in a kallah’s life.

Yet the lack of resources to pay for her “beautiful beginnings” can turn a dream into a nightmare.

Ten Yad was founded to lighten the financial burden of needy kallahs (and their families) so they can focus joyfully on preparing themselves for their new roles in Klal Yisroel. Linens, blankets, kitchen and bath towels, two sets of pots and pans, cutlery, and dishes, are all given to her with sensitivity and dignity.

Ten Yad also provides its kallahs with a stipend for lingerie and a beautifully styled sheitel, and a gorgeous bridal gown and headpiece. The glow of joy on the face of a kallah trying on a beautiful wedding gown and choosing the household items for her new home (or receiving them as gifts) — the comforting feeling of being taken care of — is the affirmation of the profound effect of this mitzvah. The impact of its spiritual effect is inestimable.

Whenever the mitzvah of hachnosas kallah is fulfilled, we are not only giving tzedakah for that moment, we are laying the foundation for generations of Torah observance. The Torah calls the establishment of a Jewish household a mikdash m’at, a dwelling place for Hashem. Each new marriage represents a binyan adei

ad, a household where Torah learning will abound, where tzedakah will be given, and children will be reared according to the Torah.

T

en Yad was established to ease a family’s burden so that nothing gets in the way of a kallah assuming her exalted role in this chain of Jewish history.

As such, it is easy to understand how important it is that the chossan and kallah receive the best of everything materially as well as spiritually, to ensure that the foundation of the binyan adei ad is strong and solid for generations throughout eternity.

When Moshiach arrives, the relationship between Hashem and Bnei Yisroel will be that of chossan and kallah. There is no purer joy than that expressed under the chuppah as chossan and kallah are united.

The smile on the face of each radiant bride serves as a beacon lighting the way, showing us how we can work together, providing for mitzvah after mitzvah, continuing forever. When you support Ten Yad, you are part of this everlasting chain, part of the pillars supporting the eternal binyan adei ad that will usher in the days of Moshiach immediately.
