In this all-new musical/comedy production, written exclusively for Ten Yad and directed by Miriam Handler, the all-star cast will thrill you with their range of theatrical talent, evoking tears of both sadness and joy in this enormously entertaining and unexpectedly inspirational tale.

MIRIAM HANDLER The creator of the Nshei Tzedakah Players in 1981, Miriam Handler assembled a talented troupe of gifted women performers, giving them the opportunity to share their talents and uplift the spirits of female audiences around the country, while raising great sums of money for tzedakah for a wide range of vital organizations. After many years of directing high school and camp plays, Miriam returned to the realm of upscale women’s productions, directing Barons and Bankers; The Song of the Hills, English to the T, and last year’s enormously successful That’s My Nanny! for the benefit of Rochel’s Place. These sold-out, live musical extravaganzas enjoyed enormous popularity, and have seen tremendous sales on DVD. Aside from the theatrical world, Miriam currently works as a freelance writer specializing in customized poems, songs and video productions.

LEAH FORSTER Hilarious and versatile, Leah Forster is, quite simply, very funny. Her riotous character roles and her ability to poke fun at some of the ridiculous things we do in our lives, make her a sought-after performer all over the country. Leah’s DVDs are well-loved: particularly Yentatainment, Balabusted, Let’s Get “Leah”biddig! Leah Forster in the Tirtzah Series, and her newest laugh riot, The Multimasker.

CHANALA FLEISHER This super-talented, Brooklyn-born 21 year old started her vocal training at the age of 14 and began teaching voice at 15. She is currently working as a voice instructor at Malky Giniger's Ratzon Music Program and is an assistant video editor at Vision & Hart Films. Having blossomed into an absolutely enchhanting stage performer, Chanala has performed in several Nshei Tzedakah performances in the past and is excited to join the Ten Yad production this year.

roken-hearted, they prepare for their chuppah knowing in their hearts that they will never have a real wedding, or worse, that their fathers or mothers will never be there to share what should have been the happiest day of their life. Many come to us empty-handed, unable to pay for even their most basic wedding needs.

What are we to do? Would we even think of refusing their pleas for help? Haven’t they suffered enough without having to agonize over whether they will have a proper wedding and the basic essentials of a Jewish home?

TEN YAD More than just “lending a hand” to a bride in need, Ten Yad embraces the dreams of these precious kallahs who have fantasized about every detail of their wedding, but are resigned to the idea that the only real wedding they will ever celebrate will be someone else’s. No one can take away the devastation of a lost parent or other tragic circumstance, but we can make sure that a kallah celebrates the most important day of her life with hope and dignity.

Ten Yad provides every needy kallah with the necessities of a beautiful wedding and the essentials of a Jewish home. She is provided a gorgeous bridal gown, a sheitel, flowers for the wedding, money toward the band, and all the essentials of starting a Jewish home, including two sets of dishes, flatware, and pots and pans; and towels and linens. If some heart-rending circumstance has made her less fortunate, is she any less deserving of beginning her binyan adei ad as a queen?

YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE Ten Yad is made up of dedicated volunteers who run every aspect of this thirty-year-old organization. But you are the ones who make it possible.

Your outpouring of love and generosity pays for every flower and musical note at a kallah's wedding, and every fork and knife in her home.

Like all the Jewish people, we cannot bear to see another’s suffering — and so it is our nature to help someone in need. Yet Hashem rewards us for our generosity, knowing that the money we spend to help another could have been spent on ourselves.

Indeed, our Sages tell us that one who takes concern and assists in marrying off orphans is credited with giving tzedakah every day of his or her life (Ketubot 50a).

But even more is the Divine light that permeates our life when we experience the joy of helping a precious kallah. The Gemara tells us that the Divine Presence comes to rest upon a person specifically through simcha shel mitzvah, to which Rashi comments: “For example, hachnosas kallah.”

We invite you to experience the simcha shel mitzvah of giving a needy or orphaned bride a chance to start her new life with hope and joy. And through all of our efforts in the mitzvah of hachnosas kallah, may the Divine Presence rest on the entire world in the Ultimate Redemption with the immediate coming of Moshiach.        

R’ YAAKOV ELBERG ‫ע"ה‬ AS TOLD BY HIS DAUGHTER, TAMAR PEWZNER

y father, R’ Yaakov Elberg, a”h, was the epitome of the directive to Amor m’at ve’asei harbei — “Say little and do much.” Indeed, his own family did not know of most of his acts of charity, which only came to light after his passing. He also exemplified the practice of Havei mekabel es kol adam b’sefer panim yaffot, being the first to greet all who passed him with a warm smile and a compliment or kind word.

done secretly. He had a special bank account with the initials “JE” and would send checks to shluchim all over the world. During shiva, we received a letter from Rabbi Berel Lazar, the head shliach to Russia, who told us that only when they heard of my father’s passing on ColLive did his shluchim realize that the secret donor who sent checks to the shluchim of Russia before Pesach with the simple initals JE was in fact R’ Yaakov Elberg.

My father would keep ready-signed checks in his pocket so that if any bochur approached him to tell him he was a chosson, he would give him — or anyone else in need — a check.

He gave to all the “money collectors” outside 770 daily, giving an extra measure on Fridays for Shabbos.

There was once an emergency meeting in Crown Heights where baalei batim were called to help save a Lubavitcher school that was at risk of closing. My father got up and made an impassioned speech that all should contribute to save the school. He was the first to donate $50,000, and this spurred others to

give. Baruch Hashem, the school was saved. Only years later did it come to light that my father borrowed money with interest to give that donation since he did not have access to that amount of cash at that time.

He lived his life as a true soldier who spent his time either learning late into the night (as did his father) or working. In his “spare time,” he was on unofficial shlichus in Queens where he started a shul and opened a mikvah for the Georgian community. He would teach Torah to the men and women every Sunday and spent all his spare time to ensure that the shul prospered. He cared for their Yiddishkeit as did his father, Reb Shabtai Kutaiser, who was the mohel, shochet and Rav of the Jewish community in Georgia, Russia. After learning in Tomchei Tmimim from

age 16, his father had been sent by the Frierdiker Rebbe to go back to Georgia and help the community that was in need of spiritual support and direction.

In spite of his rigorous schedule, he always found time to mentor his grandchildren and was actively involved in their chinuch. Every Friday he would prepare little pekelach and promised each grandchild that if they would daven without talking like a true “soldier” or without chasing the candy in the shul, they would get an even better package after Shabbos. Every Shabbos

He remained humble and focused on what was important. He learned late into the night and if he was in town, never missed a minyan in 770. His hachnasas orchim was legendary.

When he passed away, we found a book he was studying with a marker to keep his place. He was learning the blessings with which Yaakov blessed his children Yissachar and Zevulun — a powerful message to his children from a living example who lived his life striving to be both.
