Booked for Love Brings Feline Friends and Future Families Together at Louisville Public Library LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Books and cats proved to be the perfect combination as the "Booked for Love: Cat & Kitten Adoption Day" brought smiles, wagging tails—well, purring tails—and plenty of heartwarming moments to the Louisville Public Library on Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Hosted by We Love Caturday and Twenty9 Lives, the special community event invited animal lovers to spend the day meeting adoptable cats and kittens while learning more about the organizations' mission to find loving forever homes for every animal in their care.

With the theme, "Every great story needs a furry companion," the event transformed the library into a place where stories came to life—not only on the pages of books but through the hopeful journeys of cats waiting for their own happy endings.

Visitors had the opportunity to meet a variety of cats and playful kittens, each with a unique personality. Whether families were searching for a calm lap cat to keep them company during a good book or an energetic kitten ready to fill a home with laughter and adventure, there were plenty of furry companions looking to make a lasting connection.

Events like Booked for Love not only increase adoption awareness but also shine a spotlight on the dedication of volunteers and rescue organizations who work tirelessly to care for abandoned and homeless animals.

Every conversation, every visit, and every shared social media post helps give another cat or kitten a better chance at finding a loving home.

By the end of the event, it was clear that Booked for Love was much more than an adoption day—it was a celebration of compassion, community, and the special bond between people and pets. E-Bikes on the Rise in Louisville: Growing Popularity Brings New Safety Concerns

LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Electric bicycles, commonly known as E-Bikes, have become one of the fastest-growing forms of transportation and recreation across the country, and Louisville is no exception. Whether it's young riders heading to a friend's house, adults commuting to work, or families enjoying an evening ride through town, e-bikes have become a common sight on city streets and neighborhood roads.

While many residents appreciate the convenience, affordability, and accessibility that e-bikes provide, the increase in their popularity has also raised concerns among local residents and public safety officials regarding safe operation and responsible riding.

Understanding the Different Types of E-Bikes Ohio recognizes three classifications of electric bicycles: Class 1 E-Bikes – Pedal-assist only, with motor assistance up to 20 mph.

Class 2 E-Bikes – Equipped with a throttle that can propel the bike without pedaling, with a maximum assisted speed of 20 mph.

Class 3 E-Bikes – Pedal-assist only, capable of assisting riders up to 28 mph. Riders must be at least 16 years old, and Ohio law requires both operators and passengers to wear approved helmets when riding a Class 3 e-bike.

Unlike mopeds or motorcycles, most e-bikes in Ohio do not require a driver's license, vehicle registration, or insurance, provided they meet the state's legal definition of an electric bicycle.

Growing Concerns Around Town With more riders taking to Louisville's streets, many residents have noticed behaviors that create dangerous situations for both cyclists and motorists.

Among the most common complaints are: Riders failing to stop at stop signs.

Weaving in and out of traffic.

Riding against traffic flow.

Multiple riders on one e-bike.

Riding at excessive speeds through neighborhoods.

Crossing busy intersections without yielding.

Riding after dark without proper lights or reflective equipment.

Operating without helmets or eye protection.

Many of these actions are not only unsafe but may also violate Ohio traffic laws. E-bike riders are generally required to follow the same rules of the road as traditional bicyclists, including obeying traffic signals and stop signs.

Safety Officials Taking Action Local safety officials are aware of the increase in unsafe riding behaviors and continue working to educate riders while enforcing existing traffic laws when violations occur.

Officials acknowledge that enforcement alone cannot solve the problem. They believe additional state and local regulations could provide officers with better tools to address unsafe riding, particularly as more powerful ebikes become increasingly common.

Yielding to pedestrians.

Riding predictably.

Respecting motorists.

Wearing proper safety equipment.

Knowing the capabilities and limitations of an electric bicycle.

Reflective clothing or lights during evening riding.

Age restrictions for higher-speed e-bikes.

Speed limitations in parks, trails, and residential neighborhoods.

While no such changes have been adopted in Louisville or Stark County, conversations surrounding e-bike safety are becoming more common as communities work to balance personal freedom with public safety.

Competing amidst 7,000 of the top students from 1,500 schools across the nation (and beyond) Louisville students once again saw success in several areas making their impact on the tournament.

“We are so immensely proud of Molly for making her mark on Louisville history and proud of all of our competitors who work so hard to hone their skills and be an incredible reflection of our fantastic community,” Coach Katy Russell shared.

Congratulations to all of our national qualifiers for representing our program and our community at such a high level and continuing the legacy of greatness with Louisville Speech and Debate!

In a field of 571 talented students, Molly Wolfe rose to the top being named the National Runner-Up with her original speech on the Impacts of Microtrends. She has reached a level of fame in the Louisville S+D program that only few have achieved before!

Molly shared, “It’s easy to assume the final stage should be the pinnacle of my speech journey, but all it’s done is motivate me to work even harder for myself and for the people around me. You never know how much you really have to say until the whole nation is listening to you, and I’ll be forever grateful I got the opportunity.”

Canton Police Announce Increased Security and Juvenile Curfew Enforcement for Hall of Fame Festivities As thousands of football fans prepare to visit Canton for the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame festivities, the Canton Police Department is reminding residents and visitors that juvenile curfew ordinances will be strictly enforced throughout the week to help ensure a safe and family-friendly atmosphere.

Police Chief John Gabbard announced that additional enforcement efforts will take place on Friday, August 7, with a strong law enforcement presence focused on the popular First Friday celebration in Downtown Canton and along the Pro Football Hall of Fame Grand Parade pre-parade route on Cleveland Avenue NW.

Enhanced Security at Centennial Plaza To improve public safety during the Downtown First Friday festivities, the City of Canton is introducing several enhanced security measures at Centennial Plaza.

Juvenile Curfew Enforcement Visitors can expect: Officials are reminding parents and guardians that juveniles who are out without proper adult supervision during curfew hours may result in citations being issued to their parents or guardians.

Curfew times include: 9:00 p.m. within Canton's Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA), which includes much of downtown Canton and Centennial Plaza.

11:00 p.m. in other applicable areas throughout the city, including the Grand Parade route.

Temporary fencing surrounding Centennial Plaza, similar to security setups used during ticketed concerts.

Security checkpoints with magnetometers at designated entrances.

No admission ticket required for the free event.

Unaccompanied minors will not be permitted inside the secured event area.

Standard prohibited item policies will be enforced, including restrictions on weapons, coolers, and other banned items.

The Canton Police Department is asking residents, visitors, and parents to cooperate with officers throughout the week and to make sure young people understand the curfew regulations before attending Hall of Fame events.

With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected in Canton for the festivities, officials believe these proactive measures will help ensure another safe and successful Pro Football Hall of Fame celebration for everyone.

Louisville Girls Soccer Celebrates Tradition at Alumni Game

LOUISVILLE, Ohio — It was a day of memories, competition, and celebration as generations of Louisville Leopard girls soccer players returned to the field for the annual Louisville Girls Soccer Alumni Game, renewing friendships while showcasing the tradition that has helped build one of the area's proud soccer programs.

The event brought together former standouts from multiple eras, including Morgan Keelan, Alissa Lingenhoel, Reise Klein, Sydney Sheldon, and Teddi Ferguson, who proudly represented the very first Louisville girls soccer team. Seeing pioneers of the program sharing the field with more recent graduates highlighted just how far Louisville girls soccer has come over the years.

While the afternoon centered around reconnecting and celebrating the program's history, the current Leopards also put together an impressive offensive performance, defeating the Alumni squad 10-5 in an entertaining, high-scoring contest.

First Half Louisville came out attacking early and never looked back in the opening half.

38:36 –Gianna Kruse gave the Leopards a 1-0 lead.

33:40 – Reese Riley doubled the advantage.

30:59 –Ava Seitz scored unassisted to make it 3-0.

20:52 – Riley found the back of the net again.

17:22 – Riley completed her first-half hat trick, extending the lead to 5-0.

15:02–Kasey Lint added another goal for Louisville.

The Alumni squad showed its resilience late in the half as former standout Alissa Lingenhoel scored with 4:24 remaining before Reise Klein added another goal just under two minutes later to send the teams into halftime with Louisville leading 6-2.

Alumni Make It Three Straight as Louisville Tops Leopards 3-1 in Annual Boys Soccer Alumni Game

LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Experience once again proved to be the difference as the Louisville Boys Soccer Alumni earned their third consecutive victory over the current Louisville Leopards, defeating the varsity squad 3-1 in another entertaining chapter of the annual Alumni Game.

The tradition brought together nearly 30 former Louisville standouts, creating one of the largest alumni turnouts in the event's history. It was truly a family affair, highlighted by all three Adams brothers taking the field together, the Kwasnicka brothers, and a talented collection of former Leopards that included Carter Burton, Nick Johnston, Hunter Foley, Austin Smith, Ryan Kibler, Drew Dillen, and many more.

The alumni roster featured several players who are currently competing at the collegiate level, along with others who recently wrapped up outstanding college careers. Their experience created an intense, high-level match that provided Louisville's current varsity squad with an outstanding preseason challenge.

The Alumni struck first less than a minute into the contest when Riley Adams finished a beautiful setup from Hunter Foley to give the former Leopards a 1-0 advantage with 39:52 remaining in the opening half.

The current Leopards answered quickly. Just over three minutes later, Maddox Mayle found the back of the net off an assist from Cale Lindner, knotting the match at 1-1 with 36:24 left before halftime.

With 11:04 remaining in the first half, Drew Dillen capitalized on an opportunity and scored an unassisted goal to put the Alumni back in front, 2-1, heading into the break.

The second half remained competitive as both teams created quality scoring chances. The Alumni eventually added an insurance goal when Ryan Kibler finished an assist from Bailey Adams with 37:21 remaining, extending the lead to 3-1, which would stand as the final score.

With the win, the Alumni have now captured three consecutive victories in the annual rivalry. The result brings the all-time series, which dates back to 2013, to Louisville 7 wins, Alumni 5 wins, and 1 tie. No score was officially recorded in the inaugural contest, and the event was not held during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Defensively, the Alumni received outstanding performances between the posts from standout goalkeepers Joe Wengerterand Noah Emmons, who helped preserve the victory with several key saves throughout the afternoon.

The annual contest continues to be one of the program's most cherished traditions, reconnecting generations of Leopard soccer while helping prepare the current team for the challenges ahead.

The Louisville Leopards won't have long to wait for their next test. The varsity squad will travel to Akron on Tuesday, August 4, for the first of four road scrimmages, taking on the Akron Ellet Orangemen at 7:00 p.m.

Noah Ickes Rewrites Louisville Leopard Golf History Ahead of 2026 Season LOUISVILLE, Ohio — History has been made before the 2026 high school golf season has even officially begun.

Louisville Leopard sophomore Noah Ickes turned in a remarkable performance during the Leopards' three-day boys golf tryouts, setting a new program record with a 54-hole total of 217, surpassing a mark that had stood for nearly two decades.

The previous record was established in 2007 by thenjunior Jay Hollifield, who carded rounds of 73, 67, and 80 for a total of 220. Ickes responded with an impressive display of consistency, posting rounds of 74, 73, and 70 to finish three strokes better and officially etch his name into Louisville Leopard Golf history.

Breaking a record that has stood for 19 years is no small feat, especially heading into what promises to be another competitive season for the Leopards.

Ickes' steady improvement over the three rounds, highlighted by his outstanding final-round 70, showcases both his talent and composure as one of Louisville's rising stars.

The accomplishment is even more impressive considering Ickes is a multi-sport athlete. In addition to excelling on the golf course, he is also a member of the Louisville Leopard boys basketball team, demonstrating the dedication and work ethic it takes to compete at a high level in multiple sports.

The record-breaking performance provides plenty of excitement as Louisville prepares to open the 2026 campaign. The Leopards will officially tee off their season on Monday at the Raider Invitational at Shaker Heights Country Club, with the first tee time scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

With confidence riding high and history already made, the Leopards will look to carry that momentum into one of the quickest and most demanding seasons in high school athletics.

Leopards Take Positive First Steps Toward A SUCCESSFUL 2026 Campaign

LOUISVILLE, Ohio — Louisville Leopard Football continued its preparations for the 2026 season with an impressive showing during its 7-on-7 passing scrimmage before officially turning the page to two-a-day practices and full-contact football on Saturday. While there is still plenty of work to be done before opening night, the early signs point to a team with confidence, depth, and the potential to make noise this fall.

Junior quarterback Cody Zahler looked poised throughout the passing session, showing command of the offense and making smart decisions with the football. Zahler spread the ball around effectively, building chemistry with a talented group of receivers that consistently made plays.

Among the standouts were Kaison Grimm, Max Mathie, Hayden Wilson, and Drake Wilson, each hauling in several impressive receptions while showcasing their athleticism and ability to create separation. Their performance highlighted what could become one of Louisville's biggest offensive strengths this season.

The Leopards also demonstrated versatility out of the backfield. Junior running back Owen Wilson proved to be another dangerous weapon, recording multiple touchdown receptions during the 7-on-7 competition. His ability to catch passes adds another dimension to Louisville's offense and gives opposing defenses yet another player they will have to account for.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Leopards made sure the offense earned every completion.

Led by Colton Dougherty, the defense turned in a strong performance with tight coverage throughout the day. Multiple passes were batted down, defensive backs challenged receivers on nearly every route, and the unit came away with an interception to cap an encouraging outing.

Despite the positive performance, head coach Jake Atkins knows there is still a long road ahead before the regular season begins.

"It was a nice solid start, but we still have plenty of work to get done before the start of the season," Atkins said.

That work officially began Saturday as the Leopards strapped on the pads for their first full-contact practice of the preseason. With two-a-day practices underway, the intensity immediately increased as players battled through drills and physical team periods.

"It was nice to get out there and actually play some football," one Leopard player said following practice.

The weather cooperated, providing nearly ideal conditions for the opening Saturday session. Cooler temperatures and a refreshing breeze made for a comfortable morning, but the workload certainly wasn't easy. Coaches pushed the team through a demanding practice, emphasizing physicality, discipline, and attention to detail.

There is a growing belief throughout the program that this year's Leopards have the talent to put together a successful season. However, everyone understands that potential alone won't win games. The coaching staff has stressed that success will be earned through hard work, preparation, and continued improvement over the coming weeks.

The preseason schedule remains busy as Louisville continues to build toward Week 1. The Leopards return to the practice field Monday before hosting an open practice and intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday, August 5. Following the scrimmage, the program will celebrate its rich tradition with the Louisville Leopard Football Ring of Honor Ceremonyat Leopard Stadium.

Louisville will then face outside competition in a pair of preseason scrimmages: Friday, August 7 – Home vs. Jackson at 10:00 a.m.

Thursday, August 13 – at Poland Seminary, 6:00 p.m.

Those contests will provide the Leopards with valuable opportunities to evaluate personnel and continue preparing before the games begin to count.

With experienced leadership, emerging playmakers on both sides of the football, and a team committed to putting in the work, optimism is building around Leopard Stadium. The early practices have provided plenty of reasons for excitement, but everyone inside the program understands that the foundation for a successful season is being laid now.

The countdown is officially on as Louisville looks ahead to kicking off the 2026 season on Friday, August 21, at Leopard Stadium, where the Leopards hope to turn a promising preseason into a memorable fall.

Andrea Wehling - Aslanides

Today Andrea took her first steps into God’s new world. In the old world, which she leaves behind, she encountered many situations where her generous empathy for people with special needs were met. She reached out to these individuals with love and care.

Many of these children and the elderly were starving with the needs of love and being accepted.

She built life long relationships with many of them.

Her memories of sharing with these individuals were the core of her life’s work. Andrea walked right into the open arms of Jesus.

Andrea is the daughter of Gary and Loni Wehling of Louisville, Ohio. She was born on September 30, 1969. A 1988 graduate of Louisville High School and attended Kent State University for three years were her academic achievements.

Andrea is survived by her lovely daughter’s Zoey and Kirstin. Zoey is an R.N. employed at Akron General Hospital and Kirstin is pursuing a Doctorate from the University of Mount Union. her sister, Melanie is a Speech Language Pathologist working in Columbus, Ohio. She has her own business and employs people who are S.T., P.T., and O.T.’s. Andreas’s niece, Melina is a teacher in the Tampa School system of Florida.

Andrea leaves behind her niece, Myla; her nephew, Michael; her friend, Rene; her Godmother, Elvira; Tante Christa; and her special dog friend, Milo.

Andrea will always be remembered as a person with a golden heart.

Sally Ann (Rose) Story Sally Ann Story, age 92, of Louisville, OH passed away peacefully, with her family by her side, on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Canterbury Villa in Alliance, OH. She was born May 22, 1934 in Massillon, OH to the late James and Grace (Lantzer) Rose. Sally was a very active member of her church, The Fathers House, in Canton, OH. Sally is survived by her daughters, Brenda (Mark) Klingaman, Barbara (Leo) Omicinski; her son, Brian (Candy) Story; 9 grandchildren and many greatgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carol Benson; 2 brothers, James and William Rose; and a granddaughter, Kolby Story.

Funeral services will be 11am Thursday (8/6) at Stier-Israel Funeral Home in Louisville with Pastor Charlie Parsons officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11am Thursday morning at the funeral home. Sally will be laid to rest in Union Cemetery, Louisville, OH.

David R Kibler

David R. Kibler, of Alliance, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with chronic illnesses.

Born to Duane and Mary Katheryn (Hartman) Kibler, David was a steadfast steward of the land on which he was raised, taking great pride in his roots. He was dependable, hardworking, and deeply loving—a loyal husband, devoted father and grandfather, cherished brother, and friend to many. David possessed an expansive knowledge that he generously shared with others, always willing to teach, lend a helping hand, or offer guidance. His kindness, reliability, and willingness to help anyone in need left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Along with his strong work ethic, David believed in making life light, finding joy in everyday moments, and ensuring those around him had reasons to smile and laugh.

David graduated through IBEW’s Local 540 apprenticeship program and spent 33 years with Hilscher-Clarke (HC) Electric in various roles. During his tenure, he created HC’s Industrial Specialties Group and managed it until his retirement. After retirement from HC Electric, David created Kibco LLC and acted as owner/operator. He was hired by Summa Hospitals as an Electrical Engineering Consultant where he managed and guided the facilities on a multitude of different projects.

An avid Ohio State Buckeyes football fan, David rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his team and enjoyed sharing that passion with family and friends.

His love for sports extended to his children, coaching them at every opportunity.

David was preceded in death by his parents; Duane and Mary Kathryn (Hartman) Kibler, and his brothers; Richard, Donald, Jerry, John, and Kenneth. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Sharon Kibler; his children, Jeffrey (Holly), Nicholas (Natalie), and Samantha (Dylan); his grandsons, Mason, Carter, and Jack; and his sister, Ellen Bickel (Brian).

David will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his love of the land, his generous spirit, and his ability to bring warmth and light to those around him. His legacy of hard work, compassion, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

The family will receive friends Sunday, August 2, 2026, 2-4pm at Paquelet-Falk Funeral Home, 303 S. Chapel St., Louisville. A funeral service will be held Monday, August 3, 2026, 11:00am at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 10-11am.
