DIRECTORY WESTON (954) 993-0144 Office
620 Carrington Dr. Weston, FL 33326 www.sportsandactivities.com
Dear Readers,
As the summer sun begins to set and the days grow shorter, I find myself reflecting on the wonderful memories we’ve shared during these warm months with your families. From community picnics to joyful gatherings, some summer traveling, the spirit of togetherness has been truly heartwarming. As we bid farewell to summer, I write to you with great excitement about the upcoming new school year and the fantastic opportunities it brings for all of us.
Our schools are gearing up for an incredible academic journey, filled with knowledge, growth, and friendships. Check our Directory about registration for after-school activities and sports is now open. Whether your child is interested in arts, robotics, dance, theater or sports like soccer, football, baseball or cheerleading, we have a diverse range of options to cater to every passion and interest.
In addition, we invite parents and community members to join and register for volunteering at the Broward schools and join the PTA, PTO, PTSA. Volunteering not only allows you to actively participate in your child’s education but also contributes to the development of a strong and supportive community. Your time and expertise can make a profound impact on the lives of the students, and your child’s school welcomes your involvement with open arms.
Do you feel anxious about our kids’ First Day at School? Find a helpful article focused on helping students cope with anxiety, transition, understanding mental wellness and more. As we embark on this new chapter, let us remember the importance of unity and compassion. Our community’s strength lies in our collective efforts to uplift and empower one another. Together, we can create a safe and inspiring space for our children to thrive, learn, and make lasting memories. Lastly some of our favorite events and activities are back like movies at the park, fall festivals, and we couldn’t be more excited! Be sure to check out our detailed event calendar.
Please remember to let our advertisers know you found them in The Sports & Activities Directory. Thank you for your continued readership and patronage to our clients. We appreciate you, our readers, we can’t do what we do without you! Best wishes for a fantastic new school year!
Warm regards,
Isabel Magette Publisher
Dear Readers,
Embracing New Beginnings
End of Summer and the Start of a New School Year
I am delighted to extend my warmest greetings to all of you. The end of summer marks a time of transition, often filled with anticipation. It’s a time to cherish the memories we’ve made over the summer and look forward to new exciting opportunities ahead.
Back to School
For our students, this is a moment to embrace new beginnings. The start of a new school year brings promise of learning, growth, and discovery. Students have no better place to learn and grow than in the ‘A’ rated Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) in Weston. Should you choose public, private, or parochial schools in Weston, you cannot go wrong.
Parents, I commend you for your unwavering support and encouragement. To our educators and school staff, thank you for your hard work and dedication. Let’s continue to work together to ensure our children have the resources and support they need to succeed. For our part, we will ensure that each school has City and School Board supported School Resource Officers (SRO) and Safety Officers, and Certified School Crossing Guards at over 70 locations throughout the city to provide enhanced student safety. Parents, Broward County Public Schools offer numerous opportunities for involvement and ways to stay informed on many levels to fit your needs and schedules. Additionally, as the school year begins, so do the many sports and extracurricular activities that play a vital role in our children’s development. Whether it’s on the field, the court, the stage, or in the classroom, these activities provide invaluable opportunities for teamwork, leadership, and personal growth. I encourage all students to get involved, explore new interests, and make the most of these experiences.
Have Your Voice Heard – Vote
In Weston, we are proud of our civic engagement and encourage yours. By voting, you contribute to the democratic process, ensuring that your voice is heard and that elected officials are held accountable. The General Election is held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The City of Weston has an election on the ballot for City Commissioner of Seat No. One. Two candidates are running for this position. Additionally, there will be a referendum on two proposed amendments to the City Charter. I urge you to educate yourself about the candidates and the proposed amendments and vote. For more information on election dates, registration deadlines, early voting dates & locations, and more, please visit our city website at WestonFL.org.

Clothing manufacturers use washing symbols to help you extend the life of your clothes. Sure, you may think you know how to wash clothes, how to hand wash clothes, how to wash delicate fabrics like silk, how to use a washing machine, how to separate laundry, and how to put liquid fabric softener in the fabric softener dispenser.
You might even use the best laundry detergent or know exactly how to use laundry pods the right way and take the time to set the washing machine
temperature just right. But that doesn’t guarantee your clothing will stay in the same condition, color, or size.
You risk destroying your clothes by ignoring the laundry care instructions. What might happen if you put a dry-clean-only garment in a washing machine?
The garment could shrink—not just a little, but significantly. Garments made of wool can shrink two to three sizes or more, and drapes can shrink to half their size.

At Super Aqua Swim School in Weston, Florida, we understand the emotional toll these transitions can take on children and their families. Our swimming classes offer a unique and effective way to help kids navigate these challenging times, providing them with a sense of stability, confidence, and joy.
Swimming is more than just a physical activity; it’s a powerful tool for mental health. The rhythmic movements and controlled breathing required in swimming can have a calming effect on the nervous system. This can help reduce anxiety and promote a sense of well-being. For children facing the uncertainty and stress of a major life change, the water becomes a sanctuary where they can feel safe and in control.
One of the biggest benefits of swimming is the boost in selfconfidence it provides. Learning to swim involves mastering new skills, overcoming fears, and achieving milestones. For a child who is feeling overwhelmed by a new environment, the sense of accomplishment that comes from learning to swim can be incredibly empowering. At Super Aqua, we celebrate every achievement, no matter how small. Our instructors are trained to provide positive reinforcement and support, helping each child build resilience and self-esteem. This newfound confidence often extends beyond the pool, helping children face other challenges with a more positive and determined mindset.
Transitions often disrupt a child’s routine, which can exacerbate feelings of anxiety. Enrolling in regular swimming classes at Super Aqua provides children with a structured activity they can look forward to. This routine can help anchor them during times of change, offering a sense of predictability and stability. Our consistent schedule helps children know what to expect and provides a comforting sense of normalcy amidst other changes in their lives.
Starting at a new school or moving to a new area can be isolating for children. Swimming classes at Super Aqua offer a wonderful opportunity for kids to make new friends in a relaxed and supportive environment. Our group classes encourage teamwork and camaraderie, helping children develop social skills and build friendships. Being part of a swim team or group class gives kids a sense of belonging. They learn to support
their peers and celebrate each other’s successes, fostering a community spirit that can ease the loneliness and anxiety associated with major life changes.
The physical benefits of swimming are well-documented. Regular exercise helps reduce levels of the body’s stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, and stimulates the production of endorphins, the body’s natural mood lifters. For children dealing with anxiety, the physical activity of swimming can be a natural and effective way to manage their emotions and improve their overall mental health. At Super Aqua, we maintain our pool at a comfortable 90 degrees and use a topnotch water care system, including saltwater and UV filtration, to ensure the best environment for your child. The warm water is not only inviting but also helps relax muscles and soothe the mind, enhancing the therapeutic benefits of swimming.
We understand that every child is unique and that their needs can vary greatly, especially during times of transition. Our experienced instructors at Super Aqua are adept at recognizing and responding to the individual needs of each child. Whether your child is a beginner or an advanced swimmer, we tailor our approach to ensure they feel supported and encouraged. For younger children, starting from just four months old, our gentle and nurturing classes help them get comfortable in the water and build foundational skills. For older kids, we focus on developing technique, stamina, and a love for the sport. No matter their age or skill level, we strive to make each class a positive and confidence-building experience.
As a family-operated local business, Super Aqua Swim School takes pride in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for both children and their parents. We believe in the importance of family involvement in a child’s development and encourage parents to be active participants in their child’s swimming journey. Our unique facility is designed specifically for kids, ensuring a safe and engaging space for learning and fun. We are committed to building “super swimmers” and providing a community where families can connect, share experiences, and support each other.
Swimming classes at Super Aqua Swim School offer a holistic approach to helping children manage anxiety, build confidence, and find joy in new experiences. If your child is facing a major transition, consider enrolling them in our swimming program. Let us help them navigate this challenging time with strength, resilience, and a smile.

Researchers are beginning to learn how to favorably influence genes via the study of epigenetics, a gene-altering process called methylation which is involved in 70% of serious psychiatric conditions.
Several studies revealed that most mental disorders involve disturbances or imbalances of essential nutrients that alter brain function.
All heritable mental illnesses were presumed to have an unavoidable genetic component and people believe their biological and psychological fate has already been predetermined and is locked in by gene mutations.
Many mental disorders now appear to be epigenetic, rather than genetic. This means that gene protein making can be switched on (called gene expression) or off (called gene silencing) by environmental factors such as radiation, temperature, food or lack of food. Certain molecules within foods (vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential oils) can do this reliably.
Most severe heritable mental disturbances will be reversible once we understand how to tap into epigenetics. Moreover, present nutrient therapies have already resulted in thousands of reports of recovery in persons diagnosed with violent behavior, ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, and schizophrenia.
More than 70% of people with behavioral and mental disorders have a methylation imbalances, this chemical that dominates gene expression. About 42% of schizophrenics are over-methylated while 28% are undermethylated. More than 95% of persons diagnosed with autism, OCD, and antisocial personality disorder (e.g., convicted felons) exhibit undermethylation.
The body’s methyl groups arise from methionine, one of the amino acids present in meat and other proteins. There are nutrient therapies that can normalize methylation and correct many brain chemistry imbalances without resorting to drugs.
Copper overload is a primary offender in many mental disturbances, including autism, paranoid schizophrenia, clinical depression, hyperactivity, learning disability, and postpartum depression. Excessive copper reduces the brain chemical dopamine and increases norepinephrine.
During pregnancy, blood copper levels more than double to stimulate the development of new blood
vessels as the baby grows rapidly. If copper levels do not return to normal after birth, then postpartum depression may result and antidepressant drugs usually do not help these women.
Vitamin B6 is another nutrient that is associated with many mental health issues, producing symptoms of irritability, depression, poor short-term memory, insomnia, muscle weakness, difficulty walking and even psychosis. B6 is needed to produce important brain chemicals such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA (a relaxing brain chemical). Zinc deficiency is the most frequently observed chemical imbalance in mental health populations. Zinc deficiency is associated with temper control problems, weak immunity, depression, poor wound healing, epilepsy, anxiety, learning problems and hormone imbalances.
Another common imbalance is a chemical produced in the body called pyrrole that binds to zinc and vitamin B6 and increases their excretion in the urine. Nearly one-third of persons diagnosed with depression, behavioral disorders, autism, and psychosis have elevated pyrroles. A urine test can reveal whether a pyrrole disorder is present. This important chemical imbalance can be corrected within weeks using supplements of zinc, B-6, and augmenting nutrients.
Experience with ADHD and depression patients report significant improvement within month of individualized nutrient therapy and some of them are able to wean away from psychiatric drugs without a return of symptom. Women with post-partum depression have reported significant improvement after blood copper levels were normalized.

uEmpower is a youth-led international organization based out of Weston dedicated to instilling a confidence-driven mindset in girls from a young age, equipping them to be leaders in their dream career as well as providing a platform for students worldwide to volunteer. Aadya Chaudhary; Ayushi Patel; and Harshita Chintapudi, current seniors at Cypress Bay High School, founded the 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2022. “Experiencing the significant lack of women’s representation in STEM classes at school conveyed to us the need for mentors and opportunities at a young age,” Chaudhary said. The three launched two international initiatives: connect series and empowerment letters. In uEmpower’s connect series, mentorship interviews were recorded with industry professionals covering their journey as a woman leader. This initiative has grown to live connect rooms as well where students can attend and ask questions. Through this, uEmpower has been able to connect over 20 mentors to young girls worldwide in areas of STEM, research, education, business, content creation, arts, and many more. “A huge mission of ours has been to guide girls to leading their own empowerment projects through our Chapters Program,” Chintapudi conveyed. uEmpower chapters are a branch of the organization and can be started anywhere to help young girls in individual communities. Since 2022, uEmpower has become home to 24 chapters in Philippines, India, Morocco, Canada, and more. In addition to this, uEmpower works to bring inspiration and empowerment to young girls in shelter homes and hospitals through their empowerment letters program.
Volunteers can create letters with words of inspiration and submit them to the organization. “We want to give students an opportunity to empower others through their own words and make a difference,” Patel says. uEmpower has distributed over 600 letters to young girls, empowering them one card at a time. uEmpower has significantly grown in the last two years, expanding from two initiatives to five more international projects. Each project is developed to target a different area of the equality fight. Growing to over 450 volunteers in 31+ countries and 27+ U.S. states has allowed uEmpower to impact young girls everywhere. In order to continue the success of these initiatives, the nonprofit continues to work hand-in-hand with their team of 90 to bring mentorship and empowerment to the community. There are numerous different volunteer opportunities at uEmpower, providing a flexible and impactful way to contribute to society. To volunteer and learn more, visit www. uempowerofficial.com

Iamthrilled to be the new Principal of Manatee Bay Elementary School. I am incredibly fortunate to work with such dedicated and talented teachers and staff. Their passion for education and commitment to students is truly commendable. As we approach the start of a new school year, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the incredible journey ahead.
Having spent years in the field of education, I am deeply passionate about creating a nurturing learning environment for our students. I firmly believe in the power of personalized education and the importance of catering to the unique needs of each child. My goal is to foster a safe and friendly atmosphere where everyone feels like family, encouraging students to reach their full potential.
In addition to academic excellence, I am dedicated to offering a diverse range of extracurricular programs and organizing community events. These opportunities not only enrich the educational journey but also instill important life skills and a sense of camaraderie among
our students. Together, we will build an inclusive and vibrant school community that celebrates the talents and passions of each and every student.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the city officials, local firefighters, and police officers who tirelessly support our community. Their unwavering dedication to our safety and well-being is truly commendable, and we are immensely grateful for their partnership.
As we kick off an exciting, new school year, I want you to know that my door is always open, and I am here to support you and your child every step of the way. Whether you have questions, concerns or simply want to say hello – I am here for you.
With great pride and anticipation, we embark on this journey together, confident in the knowledge that Manatee Bay Elementary will continue to thrive and inspire greatness. Thank you for your unwavering support as we strive for excellence in education and embrace the endless possibilities of a new school year.
AsI enter my 5th year as the Principal of Tequesta Trace Middle School, I am humbled to be leading such an amazing school that has a long-standing tradition of excellence. For the 24-25 we are adding chorus and creative media to our already extensive list of electives that include foundations of web design, film, forensic science, marine science, robotics, chess, art, drama, band, speech and debate and peer counseling. We look forward to our students engaging in these courses.
Last year in academics, we offered extensive support classes and increased the number of students taking accelerated courses. The students surpassed pre-pandemic levels of achievement. Kudos to our teachers, parents and students for their support and hard work as we attained such a high level of excellence. We will continue to offer support classes and enrichment.
Thanks to Cypress Bay High School (CBHS) visionary Principal, Dr. Fried, this year we are partnering with CBHS to offer a selected group of 8th grade students a Cambridge Pre-AICE Information Technology course. These students will take this course at CBHS and then join us for their rest of their classes at Tequesta Trace. This will give these students exposure to high school Cambridge and allow them to familiarize themselves with CBHS before entering their 9th grade the following year. We look forward to future collaboration with CBHS.
We remain committed to building positive relationships with students, teachers, and parents. We have our upcoming 6th grade Open House August 22nd at 6PM. Our 7th and 8th grade Open House for parents will be held on August 29h at 6PM. Our PTA is dedicated to supporting our school and I ask that every parent join PTA! Our amazing PTA sponsors several school events including our welcome back breakfast for teachers, the 6th grade back to school dance and Cougar Fun Field Day. Even if you cannot give of your time, the $15 membership fee helps support our students, teachers, and staff. Please go to https://ttmspta.memberhub.com/store/items/34344
In closing, I would like to welcome our 6th grade students and parents. We are very excited you are joining our Cougar family. Our team of administrators has over 70 years of experience welcoming students to middle school and anticipate your arrival. To our 7th graders, we look forward to welcoming you back and continuing to see you grow. Finally, to our 8th graders, this is our last year together so let’s make it the best year! We have many events planned for you, such as the 8th grade dance, 8th grade Gradventure and 8th grade awards ceremony. Thank you to all of families and may God bless you as we go into a new school year.
Your Proud Principal, Mr.Robert Rivera. Tequesta Trace Middle School. 1800 Indian Trace. (754) 323-4400.

TUTORING SERVICES
KUMON MATH AND READING CENTER
Weston-Saddle Club Road. Kumon is the best learning program ever developed, and very different from your child’s regular school experience because of 4 pillars that guide us with each student: 1. individually designed learning; 2. learning challenges that advance exactly in line with your student’s timing; 3. learning by doing, not listening; 4. instructors who support, students who think. Consider how different these pillars are from the passive experience your child has in a class of 30 students. Your child’s special gifts and talents, and even your child’s individual needs, can get lost in a class of 30. But not at Kumon!! That’s why Kumon is cherished in almost 60 countries. And why it consistently generates accelerated learning for students from any starting point, to beyond class-level! The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. The Kumon Reading Program begins with basic phonics and progresses all the way through advanced reading comprehension. Please stop by and visit us! Schedule a free, no-obligation evaluation. We are located at The Bonaventure Town Center Shoppes, 16662 Saddle Club Road, Weston FL 33326 Contact or text the instructor Claudia at (954) 296-6880 or email at: claudiaantelo@ikumon.com. Digital Portfolios
All students, from early childhood to senior year, create digital portfolios to store evidence of learning, showcasing interests, growth, and mastery of skills. These portfolios include vision boards, reference letters, certificates, writing samples, projects, artwork, videos, and more. They are valuable tools during college admissions and student-led conferences.
Student-Led Conferences
These conferences empower students to demonstrate their understanding and communicate their academic and personal growth to parents and teachers, fostering personal voice and self-advocacy.
