Dear Readers,

Summer Safety, Keeping Weston Residents Safe and Healthy: As we welcome the warmer months here in Weston, it’s essential to prioritize safety, especially when enjoying outdoor activities. Summer is a time for fun, but it’s also a time when certain precautions are crucial to ensure everyone’s well-being. I want to highlight some important tips and reminders to keep you and your loved ones safe during the summer season.

Water Safety: With temperatures rising, many of us will seek relief in pools, water parks, and beaches. However, water safety cannot be overstated. I urge all parents to enroll children in swim lessons if they cannot swim. Learning to swim is not only a valuable skill but a potentially lifesaving one. The Weston Family YMCA has swim lessons for babies to adults! Additionally, always supervise children around water, whether it’s a pool or a natural body of water. Remember that flotation devices are no substitute for supervision.

Sun Protection: While soaking up the sun or enjoying outdoor activities, it’s vital to protect ourselves from the sun’s harmful rays. Sunburn not only causes discomfort but also increases the risk of skin cancer.

Remember to: Apply sunscreen with a high SPF regularly, especially after swimming or sweating. Wear protective clothing, such as hats, sunglasses, and lightweight, longsleeved shirts. Seek shade during the peak hours of the sun’s intensity, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Do not overlook the importance of staying hydrated – drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you’re spending time outdoors.

CHILDREN are especially susceptible to high heat. High temperatures and extreme heat (over 90 degrees) can cause children to become sick very quickly in several ways. It can cause dehydration, heat exhaustion, heat cramps, and heat stroke, which is a medical emergency. Dress kids in light-colored, loose clothing, keep them shaded, and ensure they are hydrated.

Pet Safety: Our furry friends also need protection from the summer sun and heat. Avoid walking dogs on hot sidewalks and pavement during the hottest part of the day, as this can burn their paw pads. Ensure they have access to shade and plenty of fresh water if they’re spending time outdoors. There are several ways to protect your dog’s paws: either with dog shoes, paw wax, sticky pads, or socks if you have no options other than daytime hours and sidewalks to walk your dog. Typical temperature: Air Temp Concrete Asphalt Temperatures in Fahrenheit.

Bike Safety: Cycling is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors and stay active, but it’s essential to prioritize safety. Always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding a bike, regardless of age or experience level. Follow traffic laws, use hand signals to indicate turns, and stay alert for cars and pedestrians. Make sure your bike is properly maintained and equipped with reflectors and lights if you’ll be riding in the evening or early morning. Weston has over 50+ miles of marked bike lanes – please use them responsibly and ENJOY.

Wrapping up, let’s make this summer season in Weston one filled with fun, laughter, and above all, safety. By following these tips and looking out for one another, we can ensure that everyone enjoys a memorable and safe summer.

Wishing you all a wonderful and safe summer season!

All my best,

OnFriday, March 1st, Gator Run Elementary held the 10th annual Multicultural Festival. From 5:00 to 8:00 pm, the school grounds transformed into a global marketplace, celebrating the diverse cultures represented by the Gator Run community.

The highlight of the festival was the display of 22 country booths. Each representing a different country, showcased the unique heritages of places like Brazil, Colombia, Canada, Ukraine, Taiwan, Spain, India, Argentina, the Philippines, Venezuela, and the UK. Visitors embarked on a global journey, exploring the rich traditions of those countries. Each booth offered a unique glimpse into its respective culture, featuring traditional clothing, artifacts, informational displays and food samples. Attendees could engage with volunteers, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation for the world’s rich tapestry. But the fun wasn’t limited to just browsing! Four enticing food trucks dished up delicious fare, tantalizing taste buds with a variety of flavors.

Adding a special touch to the evening was the children’s cultural showcase. The stage came alive with the vibrant performances of Gator Run students, who danced and sang with infectious enthusiasm, sharing their cultural heritage with the entire

community. It was a heartwarming display of Gator Run’s commitment to inclusivity and cultural appreciation.

The success of the festival wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the Gator Run PTA. Under the leadership of President Mary Grossman and Festival organizer, Maria Huey, the PTA team organized this remarkable event. Their efforts ensured a smooth-running and engaging experience for all.

The festival also received valuable support from school sponsors. Alison Pusey, Mayra Bermudez, Pediatric Dentistry of Weston, Camp Lingua, and Dr. Lindsay all played a crucial role in making the event a resounding success.

Under the leadership of Principal Mr. Peters, the PTA successfully brought together students, families, and the wider community in a celebration of diversity. The 10th Annual Multicultural Festival was a resounding success, fostering cultural understanding and creating cherished memories for all who participated.

Gator Run Elementary is located at 1101 Glades Parkway, Weston FL 33327. Their main number is (754) 323-5850. Mr. Mr. Keith Peters in the School’s Principal.

On February 14, 2024, Manatee Bay Elementary witnessed an inspiring display of community spirit and generosity during the Day of Service Cereal Box Challenge. Organized by Manatee Bay STEAM Committee and led by Mrs. Paula Fijalkowski, this event brought together students, teachers, and staff to make a positive impact on our local community.

The premise was : students were tasked with bringing in over 1,000 cereal boxes. These boxes would then be lined up along the school’s hallways, creating a colorful domino effect. That morning Cypress Bays National Honor Society members meticulously arranged the cereal boxes. The hallway transformed into a winding path of cardboard, boxes representing a small contribution toward a greater cause. Students passing by couldn’t help but stop and marvel at the growing line of boxes—a testament to their collective power. Once the domino effect began you could hear students cheering all around. But this challenge wasn’t just about collecting cereal boxes. After the display was complete, all those cereal boxes would find a new purpose: feeding families in need. Manatee Bay Elementary had coordinated with local food banks to ensure that every box would be put to good use.

To add an extra layer of fun and motivation, students were rewarded with an unforgettable experience: taping Mrs. DeVaughn, our beloved principal, to a wall! Laughter echoed through the hallways as students took turns applying strips of duct tape to secure her against the wall. Some classes even opted to add stickers to add decoration to the already colorful display. Mrs. DeVaughn took it all in stride—her commitment to fostering community spirit shining through as she grinned from ear to ear. It was a lighthearted moment that brought everyone together and reinforced our school’s sense of community.

The Cereal Box Challenge wasn’t just about collecting cereal boxes—it was about building connections, making a difference, and leaving a lasting impact on our community. As we donated those boxes to local food banks, we knew that we were part of something much bigger than ourselves. So, here’s to another successful Day of Service at Manatee Bay Elementary—a day when cereal boxes became symbols of compassion and unity.

Manatee Bay Elementary is located at 19200 Manatee Isle Drive. The main number is (754) 323-6450. Ms. Heather Headman-DeVaughn is the School’s Principal.

TUTORING SERVICES

KUMON MATH AND READING CENTER

Weston-Saddle Club Road. Kumon is the best learning program ever developed, and very different from your child’s regular school experience because of 4 pillars that guide us with each student: 1. individually designed learning; 2. learning challenges that advance exactly in line with your student’s timing; 3. learning by doing, not listening; 4. instructors who support, students who think. Consider how different these pillars are from the passive experience your child has in a class of 30 students. Your child’s special gifts and talents, and even your child’s individual needs, can get lost in a class of 30. But not at Kumon!! That’s why Kumon is cherished in almost 60 countries. And why it consistently generates accelerated learning for students from any starting point, to beyond class-level! The Kumon Math Program is a comprehensive curriculum that develops the necessary skills to help children progress from counting through calculus. Peak Scores Academy Inc. (PSA) was born out of a sheer desire to help mitigate the mental stress and dread that accompanies exam preparation. Here at PSA, a student-led initiative, we have unique and specialized prep styles for every student, incorporating elements of active recall, testing effect implementation, and stress mitigation strategies. All our one-on-one tutoring sessions are conducted by former class students selectively picked and placed in their strong suits to provide the best FREE-of-charge service out there.

In these sessions, what makes us stand out is that we work through PSAmade problems that cover every topic seen on your exam. This way, tutees master every topic on their exam, making preparation and exam day easy. Founder/CEO Vikhram Baranidharan, states, “What we are trying to do is revolutionize the way students’ study in hopes of eliminating all fear and stress that comes with exams and replacing it with confidence and hope!”

Peak Scores has already started tutoring classes ranging from honors to AP/AICE to even the PSAT/SAT, all for free, with tremendous positive feedback from the community. Current Cypress Bay Valedictorian and experienced SATtaker Badrinath Konidala says his experiences with tutoring the SAT with PSA

“has been nothing but remarkable and allows me to share my knowledge and give back to my loving community.”

Peak Scores Academy cannot be run without our community’s support. This is why Ashlyn Gao, a remarkable junior at Cypress Bay High School, helped design PSA’s community outreach poster, recalling, “I loved the whole experience of showcasing what PSA is doing to help make an impact on our community.”

Currently, we tutor in all types of subjects with our flexible timings. For example, Agam Gago, a varsity point guard at Cypress Bay High School, continues to excel at school with the aid of PSA’s flexible timings, saying, “PSA has allowed me to work on reducing my educational stress through flexible service.”

Peak Scores Academy wants to further its reach across Broward County, helping all students grow academically with our stop-school-stress statement made clear with our inspiring motto: “Reach your personal peaks”. Here at PSA, we hope our initiative continues to be fueled by the great community of Broward and sees more students both serve their community and take part in the future of exam prep with Peak Scores Academy’s service!
