Sagemont Lions are Innovator & Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurs are risk-takers, curious, passionate, creative, collaborative and flexible. Entrepreneurs are problem finders who are driven to discover solutions. The Sagemont School empowers students to become entrepreneurs and embrace an innovative mindset. With a focus on real-world application, Sagemont students have the opportunity to create, design, build, discover, and collaborate, while developing connections between school and their community.

One of the many time honored and beloved traditions of The Sagemont School is the annual Senior Market. Delivered within the context of a microeconomic course, all seniors form small business teams to create the Sagemont Marketplace. Students are tasked with developing a product or service, while documenting all aspects of the enterprise, including the creation of a business plan, strategic marketing, knowledge of supply and demand constraints and profit margins. This week-long competitive market concluded in early April, and served to inspire future generations of entrepreneurs, as lower school students also had the opportunity to visit the marketplace and are already brainstorming for their companies.

Student-powered innovation is the cornerstone of Sagemont’s educational philosophy, which is evident in our student-run cafe, Pride Rock. Pride Rock was established in 2018, and was an extension of the existing entrepreneurial coursework. Due to the success of these programs, The Sagemont School has made strategic enhancements to the curriculum for the 2022-2023 academic year. Next year, Sagemont’s elementary and middle school programs will include required coursework and exploration to include innovation and entrepreneurship.

The fundamental characteristics and skills which are needed to be a successful entrepreneur and innovator are the same for being successful in life. Learning how to think and question are at the cornerstone of higher-order and critical thinking. Entrepreneurship and innovation infused curriculum instills self-confidence, problemsolving, creativity, goal setting, empathy, leadership, grit, and commitment.
