Koroyd® provides superior impact absorption, design flexibility, and ventilation when compared to materials traditionally used in helmet construction. By utilizing crumple-zone cylinders that crush uniformly on impact, Koroyd® manages energy more efficiently with less volume than any other protection material on the market.

Unlike traditional protection materials, Koroyd® cylinders absorb and convert more kinetic energy, while increasing air flow and reducing overall weight. Not all helmets are created equal.

Developed as an energy absorber in the aerospace industry, cylindrical structures were found to be one of nature’s strongest forms; a form that could offer the greatest impact absorption for a given length. Koroyd® utilizes cylinders to create a structure that behaves differently than traditional protection materials. Traditional materials act like a spring which stores energy and then releases it, Koroyd® is a true energy absorber which converts the kinetic energy by crumpling. This translates into better absorption of impact energy.

ENGINEERED ABSORPTION The combination of Koroyd’s® precise and unique thermal welding process leads to a structure with both extremely efficient and consistent energy absorption properties.

Upon impact, the cores crush in a completely controlled manner, decelerating the energy from the impact and reducing the final trauma levels.

AERODYNAMIC WIND TUNNEL DATA

No one questions wind tunnel data and we are not about to start. However, the science does require expertise. Through a partnership with the University of Washington wind tunnel and world-renowned aerodynamicist Len Brownlie, we tested the new Ignite and Trace helmets against the current best-in-class helmets using the Wind Averaged Drag (WAD) methodology. This methodology was developed for the automobile industry decades ago but at Brownlie’s direction, has been modified for cycling-specific tests.

To make it as simple as possible for athletes and consumers to understand, the WAD method aggregates the drag measurements from several discrete yaw angles into a single “wind averaged” measure of drag. This provides final estimated time savings for 40k and 180k time trials.

RESULTS

Whether you’re talented enough to hold a pro tour speed of 32 mph for 40K, or if 25mph for 40K is more in reach, you’ll appreciate the best in class aerodynamics of the Ignite and Trace. Regardless of pace, all riders will benefit from the progressive protection of Koroyd® and the secure eyewear integration.

Wind averaged bike axis drag calculated using average of multiple runs and wind speed velocity sweep through four yaw angles. At 25mph and 0 yaw, 95% confidence interval is +/- 5.5g. All data collected at University of Washington Kirsten Wind Tunnel over the course of a single day under similar environmental conditions. Helmets were installed on the headform using consistent brow position, strap, and fit system adjustment. Rider head angle was also maintained. Time savings calculated for a 160lb (72.5kg) rider, including all clothing, and a 17lb (7.7kg) bike at sea level with 0 grade and no wind.

Brandon Semenuk Growing up in the mountain bike paradise of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, Brandon Semenuk was destined to become a mountain biker at a young age. Early on, Brandon discovered the world of freestyle mountain biking – jumps, tricks, and less rules or regulations. 2011 and 2012, he won the Freeride Mountain Bike World Tour overall title (earning six wins on the tour in 2012 alone) and he scored a silver medal at the X Games debut of slopestyle in Germany in 2013. He has continued to accumulate FMB World Tour victories with the 2015 Red Bull Joyride, the 2016 Crankworx Rotorua, and Red Bull Rampage.

Graham Agassiz Graham Agassiz’s riding style is a perfect blend of raw, aggressive power and clean, creative style. He continually puts this style on display whether he’s traveling the world charging big mountain descents or picking his way through technical terrain at the Red Bull Rampage. Because of his diverse riding, Aggy has become one of the most respected freeride mountain bikers in the world. When he is not filming or competing, you’ll probably find him on a remote bike-packing, fishing trip near his home in Kamloops, British Columbia. MIPS technology Multi-directional impact protection system MIPS is used to reduce the rotational forces to the brain in the case of an oblique impact. Smith helmets are created to absorb direct impacts very efficiently and when combined with MIPS, Smith helmets absorb oblique forces better by allowing a small rotation of the outer shell relative to the liner.

MIPS IN ACTION When you fall to the ground at an angle rotational forces are generated. A helmet integrating MIPS technology creates a sliding layer between the outer shell and the head. This allows the helmet's outer shell to slide relative to the head when hitting the ground, so the rotational force is decreased, reducing the potential to damage your brain.

Each VaporFit™ system has a full 5cm of rotary adjustability. Additionally, the system can be moved up/down or forward/backward at the attachment points. The final result is increased comfort with a personalized, secure fit.
