Sporting Kansas City (2-8-2, 8 pts.) will look to build on the club’s impressive home win midweek over the Galaxy when the side hits the road this weekend to take on Austin FC (3-5-5, 14 pts.) at Q2 Stadium on Saturday night with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
Sporting last visited Q2 Stadium during the 2025 MLS season opener, falling to a 1-0 defeat on Feb. 22, 2025. Days after playing their first competitive game of the season against Miami in the Concacaf Champions Cup, Sporting traveled to an unseasonably cold Texas and kept the game tight for the most part before falling to an Osman Bukari goal off a corner kick.

Sporting Kansas City will look to take the confidence gained from Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park into this weekend’s road match against Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on Saturday night with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
In the midst of a seven-game winless run in the regular season, Sporting came out with a point to prove on Wednesday night and scored three goals for the first time this season as Capita Capemba and Calvin Harris bagged their first goals for the club while Dejan Joveljic got his customary goal against his former club. The win was Sporting’s first at Sporting Park since Aug. 30, 2025 - a 4-2 victory over the Colorado Rapids.
Having bounced back from the team’s heavy loss in Portland last weekend, Sporting will be determined to make it a happier road trip this weekend with a visit to Austin to take on a side just two places above Sporting in the Western Conference standings and who are coming off a heavy defeat of their own, a 5-0 loss at San Diego midweek.
The team will host Red Bull New York at Sporting Park in the final match heading into the World Cup break next Saturday, May 23, before returning to MLS action on July 16.
HEADING TO AUSTIN IN QUICK TURNAROUND
Sporting Kansas City is back on the road this weekend with a quick turnaround as the team heads south to take on Austin FC at Q2 Stadium on Saturday night.
Sporting last visited Q2 Stadium in the club’s MLS season opener last season, falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat on Feb. 22, 2025. OUTSTANDING HARRIS RECORDS GOAL & TWO ASSISTS vs. LA
Sporting Kansas City winger Calvin Harris earned all the plaudits this week after his performance led Sporting to a 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park on Wednesday night.
Harris, who was honored with a spot on the MLS Team of the Matchday for his performance, played a part in all three of Sporting’s goals - earning the primary assists on the opening two goals from Capita Capemba and Dejan Joveljic in the first half before tallying his first goal for the club in the second half - on a career night in which he recorded three goal contributions in an MLS match for the first time.
The 26-year-old winger also covered the most ground (7.73 miles) and registered the fastest top speed (21.85 mph) of any player in the contest.
Harris becomes the third Sporting player selected to a Team of the Matchday in 2026 and he now has a career-high four regular season assists this year after joining the club as a free agent in January following five seasons with FC Cincinnati (2021-22) and the Colorado Rapids (2023-25).
JOVELJIC CONTINUES TO PUNISH LA GALAXY
Sporting Kansas City forward Dejan Joveljic continued to torment his former club the LA Galaxy, adding yet another goal in the club’s 3-1 victory over the Californians at Sporting Park on Wednesday night.
The Serbian marksman now has three goals in his last three games against the team he departed after scoring the game-winner in the 2024 MLS Cup - and four overall goal contributions. Joveljic had the game-winning assist in the 2-1 win at Dignity Health Sports Park on March 14, 2026 before tallying the game-winning goal on Wednesday night at Sporting Park.
Joveljic received a pass from Calvin Harris in the left channel and, with no Galaxy players closing him down, he drove toward goal before chipping an impudent finish over JT Marcinkowski to double the team’s lead to 2-0 in first-half stoppage time.
Joveljic leads the team with six goals this season and now has 24 goals in 44 regular season games. His 0.55 goals per game average is the best in club history among players with a minimum of 15 goals.
CAPITA OFF THE MARK IN SPORTING BLUE
Sporting Kansas City winger Capita Capemba opened his account for the club on Wednesday, scoring the opening goal of the club’s 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park on Wednesday night.
Capita, who joined Sporting in a transfer from Radomiak Radom in Poland earlier this year, arrived in front of goal to turn home Calvin Harris’ low cross in the 31st minute to send Sporting on their way to a much-needed three points at home. Capita became the second newcomer to score for Sporting this season, alongside Lasse Berg Johnsen, before Calvin Harris completed the same feat later in the match.
The Angolan speedster arrived in Kansas City having developed into one of the permier attackers in the Polish Ekstraklasa over the past two seasons, tallying 12 goals and two assists in 38 appearances for Radomiak Radom.
BASSONG & CALHEIRA MAKE THE MOST OF FIRST STARTS
Sporting Kansas City duo Zorhan Bassong and Taylor Calheira each enjoyed a pair of firsts during Wednesday night’s 3-1 victory over the LA Galaxy at Sporting Park.
After being sidelined for much of the early season due to a hamstring injury, Bassong made his first start of the campaign and played the opening 61 minutes of the contest. It was a vintage Bassong display as the Canadian provided drive and energy in the midfield while he also earned a secondary assist on the game-winner after his pin-point long ball found Calvin Harris who in turn fed Dejan Joveljic for the winner.
Calheira, an offseason acquisition from FC Tulsa in the USL Championship, earned his first career MLS start on Wednesday, lining up alongside Joveljic up front. The 24-yearold, coming off a 21-goal season with Tulsa, pressed well and held the ball up expertly as he rewarded Raphael Wicky’s faith in him.

On getting Zorhan Bassong back…
I’m very happy to have Zo (Zorhan Bassong) back. Hopefully he stays healthy. Zo is a very important piece for us in multiple positions, his personality, his energy, his physicality. It was not nice not to have him all season. We had him for a half an hour in Salt Lake. So, I’m happy that he is back. Hopefully he stays healthy. He can help us again Saturday, and then again in 10 days. But, again, we have to be careful with him with these short turnovers. He’s had a lot of injuries, but I’m very happy with his performance. I think he helped us a lot. Also, Jacob Bartlett came in as well, and did a great job replacing him with a great energy, and I think that’s what we need. We need the guys who don’t start to finish the job, and they did a good job today.

Raphael Wicky was appointed as Sporting KC’s head coach in January 2026 on a two-and-a-half-year contract through the 2027-28 season with a club option for the 2028-29 season. Prior to joining Sporting, Wicky was at the helm of Swiss giants BSC Young Boys from 2022-2024, guiding the club to the 2022-23 Super League and Cup double in his native Switzerland. Appointed in June 2022, Wicky enjoyed a brilliant maiden season with Young Boys – winning the Swiss Super League with a 21-4-11 record and finishing 16 points clear at the summit. Wicky and Young Boys completed the domestic double by winning the Swiss Cup following a 3-2 victory over FC Lugano in the final on June 4, 2023.
The Leuggern, Switzerland native previously coached in the United States, leading the U.S. Under-17 National Team at the 2019 Concacaf U-17 Championship and the 2019 FIFA U-17 World Cup. Wicky shifted to MLS for the following two years, serving as head coach of the Chicago Fire in 2020 and 2021.
Wicky began his coaching career in Switzerland as a youth coach with FC Thun and Servette FC before joining Swiss giants FC Basel in 2013. After coaching the club’s U-18 and U-21 teams, Wicky was named first team head coach ahead of the 2017-18 season. In his lone full season in charge, Basel posted a 29-11-9 record across all competitions and finished second in the Super League.
Wicky enjoyed a decorated 16-year playing career, highlighted by 75 caps with the Switzerland National Team. Wicky started every match for his country at the 2006 FIFA World Cup and also represented Switzerland at the 1996 and 2004 UEFA European Championships.
Wicky started his career with FC Sion in Switzerland where he won a Swiss Super League title and three Swiss Cups from 1993-1997. Wicky continued his career at German side Werder Bremen from 1997-2000, helping the team win the DFB-Pokal German Cup in 1999. Following a brief stint in Spain with Atletico Madrid in 2001, Wicky headed back to Germany and joined Hamburger SV where he spent the bulk of his career from 2001-2007, winning the DFL-Ligapokal German League Cup in 2003. Wicky returned to boyhood club Sion in 2007 before ending his playing career following a season in MLS with Chivas USA in 2008.

David Lee was appointed as the club’s President of Soccer Operations and General Manager in September 2025 and serves an executive leadership role overseeing all areas of Sporting’s soccer enterprise, including first-team roster management, player recruitment, scouting, analytics, technical staff oversight, and the continued development of Sporting KC II and the Sporting KC Academy.
Lee arrived at Sporting from NYCFC, who he joined in 2014 as part of the club’s inaugural technical staff, specializing in player recruitment and scouting operations before his promotions to Technical Director in 2017 and Sporting Director in 2019.
NYCFC enjoyed sustained success during Lee’s tenure, winning the 2021 MLS Cup and 2022 Campeones Cup in addition to making seven straight playoff appearances from 2016-2022 before returning to the postseason in 2024 and 2025. In the final 10 seasons of Lee’s tenure, NYCFC led MLS in points (523) and playoff appearances (nine).
As NYCFC’s Sporting Director from 2019-2025, Lee managed the club’s entire soccer infrastructure, including coaching, sports performance, operations, player personnel and scouting at the MLS, MLS NEXT Pro and academy levels. His decade-long tenure at the club has seen NYCFC post eight winning seasons while developing numerous players who have succeeded in MLS, European leagues and international competition.
Lee began his professional career in his native England before joining Major League Soccer in 2011, working as Performance Analyst at the New York Red Bulls - during which time the club won the 2013 Supporters’ Shield - prior to joining NYCFC ahead of its inaugural campaign in 2015.
Edu Rubio joined Sporting KC as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026 season. The Spaniard most recently coached in the English Premier League, serving as an assistant manager at West Ham United (2024-2025) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (2022-2023) under manager Julen Lopetegui and as a coach at Crystal Palace (20202022) under the leadership of Patrick Vieira and Roy Hodgson. Rubio cut his teeth at the English FA, Crawley Town and the Nike Academy while also gaining extensive experience at the youth level, coaching various academy teams in England and his native Spain at Chelsea FC, Valencia CF, Crystal Palace and MK Dons.

Dominic Kinnear joined Sporting KC as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026 season. Kinnear has coached in MLS for 25 years, including stops at the San Jose Earthquakes, the Houston Dynamo, the LA Galaxy and Cincinnati. Kinnear enjoyed a 15-year playing career, ranging from his native Scotland to the United States and Mexico. Kinnear earned 54 caps for the U.S. Men’s National Team before ending his playing career in 2000 following a five-year stint in MLS with the Colorado Rapids, San Jose Clash and Tampa Bay Mutiny. After starting his coaching career as an assistant with San Jose in 2001 and winning a pair of MLS Cups in 2001 and 2003, Kinnear was named San Jose head coach in 2004 and won an MLS Supporters’ Shield in 2005, culminating in MLS Coach of the Year honors. Kinnear famously led Houston to the most successful period in the club’s history – serving as head coach from 2005-2014 and winning back-to-back MLS Cup titles in 2006 and 2007. Kinnear held various roles at the LA Galaxy from 2017-2020 before serving as an assistant with Cincinnati from 2022-2025, helping the team win their first Supporters’ Shield in 2023.
ASSISTANT COACH | ROGER ESPINOZA
Roger Espinoza joined the Sporting KC technical staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2025 season. Espinoza stepped into professional coaching after retiring as a player in the summer of 2024. He enjoyed a 16-year playing career highlighted by 14 seasons in Kansas City from 2008-2012 and 2015-2023. He helped Sporting to three U.S. Open Cup titles as one of the most accomplished players in club history and one of the longest-serving midfielders in MLS. From 2013-2014, Espinoza had a two-year stint at English side Wigan Athletic, scoring three goals in 57 appearances while gaining experience in the English Premier League and UEFA Europa League. On the international stage, Espinoza played 52 times for Honduras from 2009-2017, representing Honduras at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. Espinoza also starred at the 2012 Summer Olympics in England – leading Honduras to the quarterfinals of the competition and scoring against Brazil at Wembley Stadium.
Ash Wallace has served on Sporting Kansas City’s technical staff since 2012, aiding the first team coaching staff in a variety of roles. Wallace, originally from England, had his first involvement with the club in August 2012 when he was contracted to produce a detailed scouting report on Seattle Sounders ahead of the U.S. Open Cup Final, helping Sporting claim their first of four major titles during a trophy-laden decade. Prior to joining Sporting KC, Wallace was a member of the Preston North End coaching staff and served as an opposition scout for Fleetwood Town in his native England, while earning a Degree in Sports Coaching from the University of Central Lancashire.
GOALKEEPER COACH | DARRIN MACLEOD
Darrin MacLeod joined the Sporting KC first team as the club’s goalkeeper coach in 2026 after serving as the goalkeeper coach for SKC II (2021-2025) and the SKC Academy (2020) over the previous six years. MacLeod has also worked with the U.S. Soccer Federation in the past, aiding with the development of the goalkeeping curriculum. During his playing days, MacLeod made 10 appearances for SKC II in the USL Championship from 2017-2018. After departing Kansas City, MacLeod linked up with North Carolina FC for the 2019 season before returning to Kansas City in a coaching role in 2020. Originally from Waterloo, Ontario in Canada, MacLeod trained with the academies of English Premier League club Newcastle United and Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon as a youth player before playing collegiate soccer at Drake University in Iowa.

Sporting Kansas City signed midfielder Jacob Bartlett as a Homegrown Player ahead of the 2025 campaign. Bartlett is the 22nd Homegrown Player to emerge from the Sporting KC Academy. Bartlett climbed the ranks in the SKC Academy, competing at the U-12 through U-19 levels, and represented SKC II as an amateur player in 2023 and 2024. Bartlett has made 45 appearances for Sporting’s first team and scored his first professional goal against San Jose on April 11, 2026.
Bartlett joined the SKC Academy as an 11-year-old in 2017 and was part of the U-14 team that won the 2019 LA Galaxy Cup and placed second at the 2020 US Youth Futsal National Championships. Bartlett ascended to the U-15, U-17 and U-19 squads as a
standout performer over the next three years, helping the U-19s to a 2023 UPSL regular season division title. He signed his first amateur contract with SKC II in early 2023 and earned his MLS NEXT Pro debut that April with a start against FC Cincinnati 2.

Sporting Kansas City added defender Ethan Bartlow to the roster as a free agent ahead of the 2026 season after the center back had impressed on trial during preseason. Bartlow spent the first five seasons of his professional career with the Houston Dynamo, logging 96 appearances in all competitions.
Bartlow joined Houston as the sixth overall selection in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft on a Generation adidas contract out of the University of Washington. Bartlow debuted for Houston on April 2, 2022 in a 3-1 victory over Inter Miami and logged 17 total appearances in 2022, before becoming a regular starter in 2023 – making 32 appearances across all competitions. Bartlow played in five of Houston’s six matches as
the club won their second U.S. Open Cup title in 2023, only missing the final due to injury, and helped his side reach the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2017. In the summer of 2023, Berg Johnsen was transferred to Swedish giants Malmo FF where he made an instant impact, playing a key role in the second half of the campaign as Malmo won the Allsvenskan title. Berg Johnsen enjoyed stellar 2024 season for Malmo, helping guide the club to the Swedish league and cup double. Harris joins Sporting after tallying 22 goals and 11 assists in his professional career, including 11 goals and 10 assists in 101 MLS regular-season appearances with FC Cincinnati (2021-2022) and the Colorado Rapids (2023-2025).
Harris arrived in Kansas City following a career-best season with the Colorado Rapids in 2025, scoring five goals and adding four assists in all competitions while predominantly playing on the right wing. Harris began his professional career when he signed a Generation adidas contract with MLS and was selected by FC Cincinnati as the second overall pick in the 2021 MLS SuperDraft. Joveljic joined Sporting following a 2024 campaign where he recorded 21 goals and eight assists, including six goals in the MLS Cup Playoffs as LA won MLS Cup. Joveljic amassed 85 goals and 26 assists during an accomplished professional career that has spanned Serbia, Germany and MLS in addition to loan spells in Belgium and Austria. The center forward was a Serbian SuperLiga champion at Red Star Belgrade and in 2021 joined the Galaxy, where he totaled 45 goals and 18 assists in four seasons as an integral
part of LA’s attack. Joveljic developed in the academy of Serbian powerhouse Red Star Belgrade, turning pro as a 16-year-old in 2016 and helped Red Star to the 2017-18 SuperLiga title. Joveljic enjoyed a breakout 2018-19 campaign that yielded 11 goals and his debut in the UEFA Champions League. After being selected as the 11th overall pick in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft out of the University of California, Berkeley, Meyer joined Nashville for preseason in 2025 and signed with the team ahead of the season.

Miller played 77 total matches in four college seasons, logging 27 appearances at Xavier in 2021 before transferring to Indiana and featuring in 50 games or the Hoosiers from 2022-2024. Sporting Kansas City selected goalkeeper Ryan Schewe as the 22nd overall pick in the first round of MLS SuperDraft 2024. In two outstanding seasons as a starter at Georgetown University from 2022-2023, Schewe posted a 20-4-4 record with a 0.79 goals against average, 12 clean sheets and 86 saves. He enjoyed a breakout season as a junior in 2022, landing Second Team All-BIG EAST recognition after leading the conference in save percentage (.838) and shutouts (seven) en route to an 11-2-1 record.
During his senior year in 2023, Schewe propelled the Hoyas to the BIG EAST regular season championship with a 9-2-3 record and led the conference with the lowest goals against average (0.84) and the most shutouts (five). He punctuated his final college
campaign with BIG East Goalkeeper of the Year and First Team All-BIG EAST honors while also receiving United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-East Region accolades.
In addition to playing for Georgetown, Schewe competed as an amateur for Georgia club Apotheos FC of the National Premier Soccer League in 2022 and the New York-based Westchester Flames of USL League Two in 2023. At the youth level, the Georgia native spent three years each with the Atlanta United Academy and United Football Academy in his home state.

Sporting Kansas City acquired winger Shapi Suleymanov in a transfer from Greek side Aris Thessaloniki ahead of the 2025 season. In eight prior years as a professional, Suleymanov recorded 55 goals and 46 assists while making over 300 appearances in Russia, Turkey, Israel and Greece. Suleymanov has made 45 appearances for Sporting KC, tallying three goals and four assists.
Suleymanov developed in the FC Krasnodar academy and broke into the club’s first team as a 17-year-old in 2017. That summer, he marked his second career appearance with a 93rd-minute goal to seal a 2-1 victory over Danish side Lyngby in 2017-18 Europa League qualifying. Suleymanov enjoyed a breakout season in 2018-19, finishing with 11 goals in all competitions. The following season saw Suleymanov strike twice in a 3-2 road win at FC Porto in the Champions League, highlighting another strong campaign in which the
winger helped Krasnodar to its second consecutive third-place finish in the RPL. In 2020-21, Suleymanov again eclipsed five total goals for the third straight year Suleymanov spent the next two seasons on loan, joining Turkish side Giresunspor in 2021-22 and Hapoel Be’er Sheva in Israel in 2022-23, where he recorded five goals and five assists as a key contributor. Suleymanov was loaned to Aris for the 2023-24 season and made a strong impression in his debut campaign, notching six goals and four assists across all competitions, leading to a permanent transfer to Aris in 2024.
As a Russian youth international, Suleymanov had six goals and three assists at the U-16 level and added two goals as a U-17 player, before making 12 appearances for the U-18s from 2016 to 2017. He continued to ascend the youth ranks with two goals for the U-19s in late 2017 and three goals for the U-21s from 2019 to 2020.

Sporting Kansas City signed midfielder Cielo Tschantret as a Homegrown Player ahead of the 2026 MLS season. Tschantret signed an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract with SKC II in early 2024 and appeared in 56 matches for the team as both an amateur and professional from 2023-2025, recording six goals and one assist. Tschantret made his first-team debut on April 17, 2026, starting at the Vancouver Whitecaps.
In his MLS NEXT Pro debut for SKC II on April 23, 2023, Tschantret scored in a narrow 3-2 road loss at FC Cincinnati 2 before earning his second start for the club four months later and making an even bigger impact, heading home the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute of a 2-1 victory at Austin FC II. Tschantret saw his role increase significantly
in 2024 when he signed his professional deal with SKC II, starting 14 of 22 appearances while scoring the game-winning goal against rivals St. Louis City 2 at Rock Chalk Park on July 21, 2024. Taking the captain’s armband in 2025, Tschantret played in 28 of SKC II’s 29 matches in all competitions – ranking second on the team with 2,392 minutes played – and scored a career-high three goals in the process. Tschantret’s 2,327 minutes played in MLS NEXT Pro led all teenagers in 2025.
Tschantret arrived in KC from his native Baltimore, Maryland in 2020 and starred for the SKC Academy at the U-15, U-17 and U-19 levels. Tschantret, the son of SKC II head coach Lee Tschantret, spent six years in the club’s youth ranks from the U-15s to SKC II.
