remember the days when no one had a “dot-com� or “dot-org� on their business cards. Now, it seems, everyone does. The Internet began with only seven top level domains (the suffixes that appear to the Joe Garst, right of the dot in a domain name address): .com, .org, 2014 President Spokane Association of REALTORSŽ .net, .int, .edu, .gov and .mil. The first of these – a dot-com – was registered in 1985. Today, there are more than 300 of them. Hundreds of new top-level domains are going live this year in the largest domain name expansion in Internet history – and one of them will impact what you see here in the real estate pages of The Spokesman-Review. Now, there is a new way to contact a REALTORŽ online with the top-level domain .REALTOR.
The National Association of REALTORSŽ recently debuted its new top-level domain for REALTORSŽ, very suitably, .REALTOR. Anyone who is a REALTORŽ is now able to use this to identify him/herself online. With nine out of 10 buyers beginning their home searches online, is has become even more critical for REALTORSŽ to create a branded space online. The .REALTOR domain will help REALTORSŽ stand apart from other real estate professionals, creating a more positive online experience for consumers who are searching for information on buying or selling property. Having a .REALTOR domain will inform consumers that they are working with a REALTORŽ, a trusted real estate professional who subscribes to NAR’s strict Code of Ethics.
