My name is Paula Cartwright and I am the mother of Taylor Cartwright. My son Taylor has been employed at Investment Recovery through Avista Utilities for the past five years, with oversight and coaching provided by The Arc of Spokane. From a very early age Taylor had a keen interest in doing jobs, many jobs. When I say “jobs” I don’t mean household chores. Taylor always had his sights set on more interesting work like car detailing, snow removal, or customer service. For those of you who know Taylor, you also know that he is “socially gifted.” Because of The Arc / Avista partnership, he has input into his own employment goals and skills acquisition. His wishes are considered. For the first time, Taylor feels as w iif he has EARNED the right to be employed.
