Winter Fashion with the LBD, Etc

Written by Lauren Boughfman

“A few stand-out colors we are seeing this season are emerald green and black cherry.”

– Candy Hardesty of The LBD, Etc.

The LBD, Etc. is a locally-owned women’s fashion boutique that opened in the summer of 2010, located in Bradley Fair right here in Wichita. Though they specialize in dresses for any and every occasion, they have much, much more to offer. LBD specializes in on-trend, fashion-forward clothing and accessories: Whether you are looking for the perfect black dress for a specific occasion or an everyday outfit, LBD has got you covered! Many items are exclusive to the store itself and difficult to find anywhere else. Featuring designer collections from Los Angeles all the way to New York, there is something in store for everyone.

How is LBD Tackling Winter Fashion?

One recurring aspect this season is leather clothing items. Lucky for you, LBD is fully equipped for the winter season’s trends such as these. They offer a variety of iconic leather pieces such as sets, dresses, jackets, pants, and even skirts waiting at your fingertips. Denim has been and will be a returning trend all year round. Specifically this winter, the trends are pointing toward high rise, straight leg, and flare jeans. Thankfully, LBD has tons to offer in the denim department, including a variety of styles and washes to help you find the perfect jean for you! These simple styles are made to be staple pieces within your wardrobe. LBD makes finding the perfect pair of jeans for this season extremely easy. LBD is your one-stop shop for a one-of–a-kind dress to fit any and every occasion. Ranging in styles, fabrics and colors, of course, there are plenty of options to find exactly what you are in search of. Sleek silk dresses, sleeve details, and fun prints that will make a statement are two trends guaranteed to make an appearance this winter season. LBD is where you can find the perfect dress, no matter the occasion.

Wine and Spirits With the Good Life Guy Written by Guy Bower

Wine Ratings and YOU! Spectator” and most other national wine magazines use the following criteria: 95–100, Classic: a great wine. 90–94, Wouldn’t it be great if you could magically know what every bottle of wine tastes like, the quality of that wine and most importantly if YOU would like the wine. The YOU part of Outstanding: a wine of superior character and style. 85–89, Very good: a wine with special qualities. 80–84, Good: a solid, well-made wine. the question is the most difficult, as we all perceive wine The popularity of numerical wine ratings not only help with differently depending on where you are in your personal wine consumer decisions but the retail wine business as well. tasting experience. Numerical wine ratings are a tool that can Wines rated 90 or above are usually guaranteed favorable be helpful. sales. Wines rated 95 to 100 often develop a cult following that, coupled with limited production and availability, contribute to skyrocketing prices, market scarcity and wine label prestige. Each year, “Wine Spectator” editors survey the wines reviewed over the previous 12 months and select the Top 100 based on quality, value, availability and excitement. This annual list honors successful wineries, regions and vintages around the world. There are several ways a wine might receive a numerical score. The best and most often reliable is a score derived during a blind tasting where the critic tastes an array of wines usually of the same grape variety, but doesn’t know the producer who made it. Often, it’s a single wine critic who specializes in a certain type of wine or specific growing region. Another rating may come from a panel of wine critics that come to a consensus. I prefer a panel rating from two to four – or more – folks who agree on a final score. There are other rating systems. Jancis Robinson and Michael Broadbent from the UK use a 0 to 20-point scale. Another simple form of rating involves zero to five stars. Don’t overlook wine competitions that award wines with bronze, silver or gold medals; these are awarded by consensus of a diverse panel of experienced judges. Robert Parker of The Wine Advocate is credited with creating the commonly-used 50 to 100-point scale, and in the beginning it was just his expert opinion. The 100-point scale is the most popular and has evolved to 80 to 100 points. “Wine Wine enjoyment is subjective – it’s a private party in your mouth. Wine scores are a guide and many of the finest wines I have enjoyed have scores less than 90. Use your family and wine-drinking friends for recommendations. Be open to trying new and different labels, varieties and wine regions. There is no substitute for a great wine store with a knowledgeable staff to guide you in your wine selections. Drink the best wine you can afford, share with family and friends, and always endeavor to enjoy The Good Life!

Guy Bower is host of The Good Life radio show airing every Saturday, 12–1 p.m. on 98.7/1330 KNSS, featuring special guests, book reviews and a wine of the week.
