Latest Technology Our team uses the latest 3-D software to accurately model each brace to fit individual patients, based on their scans and measures. Consequently, no two patients’ CMP Lite braces will ever be the same.
Allowances for breathing mechanics specific to SMA
Unique Curve Classification System Unlike the simple classification systems used by other scoliosis braces, CMP Lite Braces use an individual curve classification system and corrective movement principles, offering the best correction for each patient’s scoliosis.
Soft/Rigid Hybrid design CMP Lite braces are lightweight, soft edged braces, with their soft/rigid hybrid design providing less aggressive over-correction to standard CMP hypercorrective braces.
In the SMA brace designs we utilise specific tools to allow for the unique breathing mechanics of this group of patients. An open abdominal window ensures no respiratory restriction due to the low abdominal breathing.

Brace Designs We use corrective movement principles to reduce the scoliotic curve and the 3-dimensional effect of rotation while providing space within the brace for the potential for further correction, resulting in a slight asymmetric brace design. This, combined with a good sagittal profile to avoid a kyphotic collapse, should maintain as straight a spine as possible, while providing the optimal posture for upright seating. The patient is therefore able to focus on other activities, such as head control and upper limb positioning.
Corrective Movement Principle The principle of corrective movement differs from more traditional rigid braces in which 3-point forces are applied. Avoiding this 3-point force design reduces the risk of compression of the thorax, reducing risk to the respiratory system as much as possible. Where possible, having some correction space within the brace can allow for micro movements, which can help to reduce the risk of weakening of the stabilising muscles of the spine.
