We are excited to invite you to our Annual Production Sale this year and to present this offering for your inspection! Consisting of large sire groups, this set of bulls has been really fun to watch grow and develop. The sale offering is largely sired by 7 sires, along with two groups of ET bulls by two highly proven, mature sires. These sires really clicked on our females and have us excited to present them to you.
Our goal has been and will continue to be offering large sire groups, made up of several 3/4 and ET full brothers. Identifying the sires we feel are advancing our program not only builds us a more consistent cowherd, but also enables us to offer like genetics in volume to our customers.
The bulls and heifers were weaned the end of September. It has been a long haul for this set of cattle. After being born in a really cold February/early March they went through a treacherous late April full of 30+ inches of snow, followed by lots of rain. The end of all this made for a summer with plenty of grass and forage. Post weaning, we have been snowed under since November 10th and as this is written we are still buried by close to 100” of snow for the season. The sale cattle have handled the adversity during their development period quite well, and we are really pleased with how they look. The bulls will be hard, heavy muscled, athletic and ready for immediate pasture service after the sale. Their heifer mates are readily cycling and will be ready to breed.
All registered lots in this sale have genomic enhanced EPDs and are parent verified through the AngusGS test. By doing this, we ensure not only the pedigree we are selling but also offer the most accurate EPD data available. Scrotal measurements will be available on our web site by mid-April. (www.spicklerranchsouth.com)
As in the past, videos of each lot will be available two weeks before the sale. A link to the videos will be available on our web site as well as the DVAuction site. Online bidding will be available through DVAuction.com. You must register with them prior to the sale.
The sale offering and their dams are available for viewing anytime ahead of the sale. We would also like to invite you to our ranch on Sunday afternoon and evening to view the cattle and enjoy a supper that will be served Sunday evening at 6 pm.
We sincerely thank you for considering us as your genetic source. We truly enjoy raising Angus cattle and getting to provide seedstock for our customers. We know early May is a busy time, but we invite you to come out, evaluate our sale offering, have lunch and enjoy the sale!

Coalition came to us from U2 ranch in Alberta as their high selling Angus bull in 2016. How time flies, it is hard to imagine that we are already offering our fifth group of his sons. Coalition has established himself as one of the really good sires we have ever used. He has an uncanny ability to make cattle good. From the ground up, the phenotype he stamps his progeny with is nearly unparalleled amongst any sires we’ve used in recent times. His bulls look like bulls and his daughters look like females. He puts a big, wide, expressive hip and great structure into his progeny while consistently improving breed character as he really puts a nice, Aberdeen head on his sons and daughters. We attribute much of the potency he has as a sire to the incredibly good female he is out of. Erelite 109Z is one of the absolute best Angus cows we have ever seen, and Coalition puts her small teats, and quality udder unfailingly into his daughters. Our 2023 sale will again feature a large offering of Coalition sons, including a set of ET full brothers by donor Blossom 0278. Again this year, his sons are real beef bulls. Chuck full of muscle, character and maternal. If you haven’t tried a Coalition from us yet, we are beginning to slow down our use of this legacy sire so this just might be the year to grab ahold of one. 26 sons sell May 1!

Retained from his calf crop, Wrangler is one of the really complete bulls visually we have ever raised. He exhibits tremendous muscle shape, power and structural correctness that was unparalleled amongst his peers. A Coalition son, he is double bred to the performance, muscle, and maternal sire, Chisum, who has his footprint all over our program. We sold possession and an interest in Wrangler to M Diamond Angus, WY and recently a breeding interest to Botts Angus, MT as well. 2023 is our second offering of Wrangler sons. He has put his stamp on his progeny. His sons are muscle bulls, exhibiting real, raw muscle shape. They are largely calving ease bulls, yet still present strong performance and as much visual muscle as any sire group we are offering. Wrangler daughters are beauties as they have come into production this spring. Angular and Angus headed in their make-up, they show tremendous rib shape and muscle expression, much like their male counterparts. Their maternal temperament is top-notch and they have very good udders. Wrangler is a calving ease sire who adds muscle, pounds, and sure looks to enhance maternal and will be a part of our program for years to come. 21 sons sell May 1!

Coleman Triumph 9145 was the $225,000 high selling bull as an added lot to the fall 2020 Coleman Angus production sale. We were drawn to this sire due to the stacked phenotypic excellence and maternal quality contained in his pedigree. His dam, Lawsons Chloe is a picturesque Angus female whose producing power is being realized through the numerous powerful progeny she has already kicked out. Triumph absolutely worked on our cowherd. His sons are heavy muscled, beef bulls with added body mass and stoutness. They are very true to the Angus breed in terms of their head and neck and carry themselves with a sense of pride as they move about our development pens. Some of the certain features in our sale offering are sons of Triumph. His daughters may hold even more excitement than this powerful group of sons. Milder in their end growth potential, they are deep bodied, broody females with angularity and style. They have the makings of real momma cows that will survive on about anything and last for a long time. We are excited to showcase our Triumph progeny – come check them out May 1st! 23 Sons sell May 1!

Architect was the featured and high selling bull of the Spickler Ranch North sale in the fall of 2019, selling to Genex. After seeing him as a yearling, and evaluating all the positives he possessed, from his performance to EPDs to cow family, we decided that he needed to be a part of our program. He absolutely has not disappointed. Architect adds length, body, and pounds to every pedigree we’ve mated him to. Our 2023 bull offering is highlighted several times by his sons. They are highly useful bulls with enough size, power, and punch, backed by EPDs that further enhance their usefulness and genetic potential. The female side of the Architect equation is really exciting. They are power females with added body depth and mass, built on a structure that looks like they will last for years to come. We have calved a large group of Architect females this spring and are really pleased. They are quiet, good mothers with nice udders and are nursing some of the biggest calves in our first calf heifer group. Be sure to check out the Architect sons – they are some of the real complete bulls in the offering both visually and numerically. 12 sons sell May 1!

Tehama Tahoe is a highly proven bull featured in the Select Sires line-up and very popular bull in the Angus industry at present. 2023 will mark our second offering of his sons and daughters and what a set of cattle he has sired for us again this year. Tahoe has absolutely clicked with our cowherd. Many of the real good bulls in the sale this year carry his namesake. His sons are some of the most complete bulls in the sale in terms of their ability to combine likeable phenotype with highly usable Epds. They are strong performing bulls with added carcass merit. We are very high on the sons he’s sired but probably are even more excited about his daughters and the future they will have in our herd. They exhibit a tremendous amount of mass, boldness of rib, and depth of flank, while still maintaining enough femininity and angularity. We calved a large group of daughters this spring and they are going to be special females. They have great udders and wonderful dispositions. Grab ahold of our Tahoe progeny – they are a really strong sire group for us in 2023. 26 sons sell May 1!

Sitz Logo 12964 is a highly proven sire known for his ability to calve easy, enhance fertility and sire superior udders. This sale offering is our second progeny by this established sire and he bred just like we had hoped. His sons are an exciting group of bulls. Largely destined for heifers, they offer true sure-fire calving ease, yet many still performed well above average off the cow, much as Logo’s EPDs would indicate. The amount of muscle shape these bulls possess is an added bonus considering how much calving ease is in them. Logo made quite the set of females for us. Many will be retained in our herd, but a few are absolute features in our heifer division. After calving our first Logo daughters this past spring, his maternal hype was confirmed. They are moderate framed, good mothers and have really nice udders. Logo 12964 has been a really positive addition to our genetic pool and his progeny will be some of the real good bulls we will offer in 2023. 11 sons sell May 1!

Every once in awhile in cattle breeding things happen that we don’t fully expect. To say we didn’t expect this Logo calf to be a good bull would be a bit foolish, but truly we didn’t expect him to have herd changing, breed-leading performance. This bull is an outlier in every sense of the word. Straying from the calving ease gearing of most of our Logo sons, this bull absolutely is the highest performing bull we have on offer in 2023. He is a man amongst boys in this year’s sale offering. Boasting ratios of 125 at both weaning and yearling in a contemporary group of over 125 head is an amazing accomplishment, and a performance level that is hard to maintain from weaning to yearling. Visually he is well put together. Strong-topped, level across his hip, stout-boned, and really heavy muscled well describes this good bull. He is a calf that moves with a sense of pride and power as he travels about his development pen. Numerically he has a +92 weaning Epd and a +151 yearling Epd while still only being a +1.2 for BW. His young dam really set her production bar high with her first calf. A daughter of past high seller, Foundation 7179, she herself was a standout in her calf crop ratioing 115 at weaning, 110 at yearling, 115 for marbling, and 109 for ribeye. “7179” is a performance adding herd sire that has done a great job on the udders he sires on his progeny. True outliers are hard to find. When one comes along that has the phenotype of this one we are going to tie into him. We call him Authority. It is our desire to use him back into our program. The ability we perceive him to have in terms of performance changing is special, plus he carries with him the maternal strength of Logo, Foundation, Courage and Dominion. Selling 2/3 interest and full possesion.

This sale will be our second year of offering progeny by the Genex performance great, Architect. The ability this sire has to add pounds, length, and mass to his progeny is nearly unmatched in the industry. We felt it only fitting to start off his sire group with a son that has next level performance genetics in the bull we have as Lot 2. A good-sized calf, he offers about as much performance, mass, and overall growth potential as any bull in the entire sale offering. Visually he is loaded with muscle. A bull that when he travels away, the shape down his top and expression his quarter has is clearly visible. Beyond all of his muscle he is one of the elite performers in the entire sale. Indexing 118 at weaning, he backs up this outlier ratio with a genomic enhanced WW Epd of +91. He is the kind of bull that will take performance levels to new heights in his progeny. His dam is another one of the highly productive daughters we retained from resident pasture sire, Open Country 5245. A 4/109 weaning ratio cow, she always maintains good body condition while lactating, and has a very functional udder with evenly spaced teats. Her sire, “5245” has done a marvelous job of making cows good. He is an udder improver and will put more maternal performance into the calves his daughters have. His eleven daughters have weaned 27 calves with and average nursing ratio of 106. That’s big maternal performance. When everything about Lot 2 is combined we think he is one of the really strong herd bull prospects we will offer in 2023.

2023 marks the second year we are offering progeny by the popular Select Sires bull, Tahoe. We were thrilled with the calf crop he gave us last year, used him again and couldn’t be more excited to offer his sons again this year. Lot 3 is the bull who leads off this impressive sire group and he is about as complete of an individual as there is in the entire sale. Gazing through the bull pen he is one that will continually gravitate your eye to him based on his elite phenotype. Built so right structurally, he is hard to ever find posed in a position where he doesn’t look like the herd bull prospect he is. He carries with him a tremendous amount of muscle and mass, visibly displaying extra pop to his top and bulge to his rear quarter. On paper he extends himself further in front of his peers. His numeric compilation is second to none in this sale offering. From weaning to yearling to ultrasound day, his ratios all authenticate his future use as a herd bull. Maternally his genetic value grows further. His young dam is an elite producing daughter of Powerpoint back to a mature Coalition female. Fresh into her productive career, she has the look of a cow that is quickly making a mark for herself having a really nice udder and added carcass merit to her progeny as she is rationing 2/132 for IMF and 2/111 for ribeye. Lot 3 is one of the most complete and best herd bull prospects in this sale offering.

Calving ease herd sire prospect sired by Triumph. Our sale offering this year will feature several of these Triumph sons and they have not disappointed. Lot 4 is a bull that is put together about as well as we could design a calving ease bull. On the move he carries himself with the presence of a herd bull, pleasingly moving all the muscle and mass he possesses about the pen. From his shoulders forward he is smooth made, clean fronted with much breed character about his head. Behind his shoulders his visual excitement grows further. He is expressive down his top, wide across his pins and has a defined and expressive rear quarter. Maternally, he gets validated once again as a calving ease herd bull prospect. His first calf dam is a quiet, tidy uddered female who originated in the good Pine Coulee herd in MT. She traces back to the A40 donor, a powerhouse Resource female who has served in their donor pen. From all angles Lot 4 has the genetic and phenotypic combination to get himself considered as an elite calving ease herd bull prospect. Suitable for heifers. Selling 2/3 interest and full possesion.

A pair of Tahoe flush brothers and the only ET progeny to sell from second generation donor dam in Blossom 641. Relatively new to our donor rotation, 641 found her way to the donor pen through her outstanding individual progeny performance. Powerful in her build, we fully expect her to carry on the maternal legacy of her namesake. We have calved her ET daughters by Coalition this past spring and if they are indicative of what she will produce her prowess as a donor dam will only continue to rise. Mating her to Tahoe yielded favorable results in both her sons and daughters. These ET calves are strong genetically, even more appealing visually and have the bred in maternal power of a Blossom donor dam. These two bulls would make an excellent pair of full brother bulls to run on a set of cows. They are nearly identical as is their data profile.

Big time performance powerhouse in the first Wrangler son that we will offer in 2023. This bull has only known growing and performing. He weaned off his dam well over 800 pounds with no creep and continued to perform well to yearling time, obtaining one of the heavier yearling weights in the offering. Backed by highly usable growth Epds, he also excelled for marbling posting a 177 ratio while only have .23 of backfat. Beyond all these accolades, he is a stout, big framed, long bodied bull with as much performance to offer as any bull in the sale. He comes about his performance honestly. His dam is a big cow. Sired by Whitlock, she get’s it done year in and year out recording a 4/114 weaning ratio. Along with her added size she has extra depth of flank, body mass, and a very functional udder. Look for this Wrangler son to take performance to new parameters while enhancing maternal purpose.

The second Wrangler son to sell in this years offering and a bull that is complete in so many ways. Starting out with a modest birth weight, this calf performed well above average at weaning and yearling and is backed by a very nice spread of Epds from birth to yearling. Additionally, he is about as big middled and deep flanked as any bull we will offer. His dam is another one of those reliable old Summit females. The highest-performing Triumph bull in the offering and one of the leaders in terms of total growth and performance potential in the entire sale. This big bodied, long sided, stout made rascal gets a positive grade at every performance measure. He ratioed 111 off his dam as her first calf and kept right on rolling to yearling weight time to index 119. On ultrasound day he further distinguished himself as one of the leaders in this offering as he ratioed 139 and 107 for marbling and ribeye. Combine all of this with his solid Epd backing and he’s ready to work in almost any genetic setting. His dam is a beauty of a young female. Her udder is well attached, with refined, evenly spaced teats. A daughter of Niagara, she stems back to the powerhouse donor dam, Gloria 1146 whose sons are featured as Lots 12 and 13 in this offering. By sale time this will be one of the really sought after bulls in our entire offering.
Lots 10-11
Our sale offering this year marks our second opportunity to purchase direct progeny of Erelite 109Z, the $140,000 donor dam of Coalition. After much thought and consideration, we chose to flush her last year to Coleman Triumph. We are so glad we did. It is a mating that absolutely worked. Both the bull and heifer calf progeny from this flush have far exceeded our expectations. They are cattle with extra size and performance, yet still carry plenty of body mass and depth. 109Z is one of the real special Angus cows that there has been. A female that carries so much raw power, yet is feminine, angular and has a quality udder. Going forward, we have deepened our inventory of her embryos and her influence in our sales and replacement pen will only continue to grow.
This is the lead bull of this group of full brothers. He and Lot 11 are very close phenotypically, 10 gets to sell first as he offers a little more genetic growth through his weaning and yearling Epds. A bull that knows he’s a bull, this dude is proud, travels freely around the pen and carries himself with a character that only the good ones possess. He is the definition of a true muscle bull. Scanning over a 16 inch ribeye, while having just over a quarter inch of actual back fat, muscle and power come at you from all angles when analyzing this bull. Lot 10 is a great opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the great 109Z and have a herd bull that calls her his dam. Selling 2/3 interest and full possession.
Lot 11 gets to follow his flush mate Lot 10 in sale order, and by the time we get to May 1, it may be even more argumentative which one should’ve sold first. This bull just keeps getting better and better. Plum full of muscle, he has a softer appearance about his rib and body shape, and is a little milder in terms of his frame growth potential than Lot 10. He balances himself extremely well, is great on his feet and legs and totally worthy of being considered one of the top bulls we will offer. Selling 2/3 interest and full possession.

His daughters have small, refined teats that are evenly spaced, with strong udder attachment. The “316” influence we have in the sale this year comes through 3 ET brothers out of donor dam Gloria 1146. “1146” is a total power cow that ramps up performance output in everything we have ever flushed her to. A really good-sized female, she is also a full sister to the Genex performance sire, Chisum 6175. Having “1146’s” influence in a pedigree around here is a good thing. Almost assuredly the cattle she has a part in genetically will be stout, high performing, really productive individuals.
Lot 12 -
Herd bull candidate and quite possibly the best “316” son we’ve ever offered. A bull that we really appreciate for how he blends raw muscle and power, into a soft, deep rib design. On paper his herd bull validation is verified. Backed by strong performance Epds, he boasts nearly +1 marbling Epd, ratioed 153 for marbling and has the highest $C in this sale at a +314. He deserves a serious look sale day.
Lot
-
Built very similar to his flush brother 12, although he offers even more size, raw power and performance potential. From weaning heavy and then continuing to explode to yearling time he has the genetic potential to really elevate expected performance parameters in the progeny he sires.
Lots 14-15
The next two bulls introduce the mating of Coalition on our matriarch donor dam, Blossom 0278. When we joined these two potent pedigrees it was our intention to create several elite females to put back into our herd. Already having a daughter of this mating in production we know full well the quality and functionality this mating can produce. In trying to assimilate more females, we ended up with 5 sons that will sell in this bull offering. What a group of bulls they are. Rich in Angus breed character, they are all good fronted, good headed bulls with extra muscle shape and expression. These full brothers carry with them the maternal backing of about as good of a cow that has ever grazed our pastures. Blossom 0278 has left her mark thoroughly throughout our herd and past sales. From sons S Chisum 255 to S Cornerstone 607, she has also been the dam of our high-selling female four times. The potency she has to mate well with every sire we’ve ever used on her is unmatched. She is one of the special cows that doesn’t come along every day. These sons of hers by Coalition combine in essence what I consider the “best of the best” of our maternal genetics.
Lot 14 - he’s special. Quite possibly the best Coalition son we’ve ever offered. So right in his design, he’s a big middled, thick made bull that carries his mass elegantly on his right structure. A solid numbered bull, he came in heavy off of his recip, grew well to a year and scanned with a big ribeye. This good scamp is resoundingly strong for maternal excellence. He’s a herd bull prospect. Selling 2/3 interest and full possession.
Very similar in his design to Lot 14. This full brother is really right in his type, level-hipped, strong topped and expressive in his muscle pattern. A bigger growth numbered bull, he offers lots of mating flexibility while still bearing the female producing qualities of his parents.

One of the complete Triumph bulls in the entire offering in Lot 16. A calving ease minded bull, he weaned heavy and continued to perform fast to a year, all while also scanning above average for muscle. He is one of the longest bodied bulls in the entire sale, while displaying adequate muscle shape and expression. His dam is one of those good females that gets it done every year. She raised our high-selling bull in 2019 and a daughter was a feature last May and co-2nd high selling heifer. This bull has the maternal backing, stat line and phenotype to make him one to seriously consider as one of this sale’s elite bulls. Suitable for heifers.

The next two bulls will introduce our usage of the Genex roster veteran MAR Innovation. Innovation is a bull we have long admired for his ability to really make cattle good. His progeny grow, have plenty of muscle and mass and his daughters are the elite herd building kind. We chose to introduce him to our program through flushing him to our highly proven Elba 1004 donor. Our goal was to raise numerous daughters from this mating that could serve as continuing foundations for our operation going forward. We did get numerous daughters. One of them is even featured in the registered heifer division of this offering. What also happened is we ended up with 6 of these full brothers that we get to market in our bull offering. They are an exciting group of bulls. To think they are derived from parents both born 12 years ago, they absolutely don’t take a back seat to any of the more “youthful” genetics we are offering. Tie into these sons with confidence – they’ll add pounds, power, maternal quality and more importantly profit to you operation.
Lot
- This herd bull prospect is really a neatly made individual. Standing on more stoutness of bone than most in this sale, this good-haired rascal has a big turn to his top and plenty of overall muscle mass. On paper he is solid numerically, grew well from weaning on and scanned above average for both marbling and ribeye. Note his nearly 300 $C. Selling
interest and full possession.
Dam
Lot 18 - The big-framed power bull of the flush. Not quite as nicely balanced as his brother 17 but oh does he have size, performance and muscle. Scanning a 15-inch ribeye this bull would be one of the biggest framed, stoutest bulls in the entire offering.

These next two bulls introduce the influence of Niagara into our 2023 sale offering. We have selectively used Niagara in the past couple of years exclusively on our donor females trying to really capitalize on the strengths of him as well as our elite females. This group of full brothers by donor dam Vermilion Lass 0045 is the best flush of Niagara bulls we have offered. So true to their genetic potential, they offer extra length, growth, and power with added marbling genetics. Their donor dam, Lass 0045 came to us as the high-selling female of her age group dispersion and has successfully served us in numerous different matings. She does a superb job of passing on her quality udder, teat size and attachment to the numerous daughters we have calved of hers.

What a big topped, thick quartered tank in this Tahoe son who sells as Lot 21. The combination of true calving ease this bull offers combined with his excellent individual performance is basically unmatched in this sale offering. After starting life at 79 pounds he raced off to a 112 weaning ratio, and continued his ratioing excellence with above average scans for both marbling and ribeye. His quiet mannered, 3/93 birth ratio dam is a nice uddered, small teated female with a strong maternal lineage as she traces back to a Whitlock x Summit x EXT female. The combination this bull has for calving ease, growth and maternal excellence make him a worthy candidate for anyone in need of a really complete low birth herd bull prospect. Suitable for heifers.

Calving ease herd bull prospect that hasn’t done much wrong in his life. After starting out at 70 pounds, he raced to weaning recording a 110 ratio and continued on the growth fast track to yearling time with a 108 ratio. Presenting solidified calving ease in his Epds, he also offers the highest combination of marbling and ribeye Epds in this sale with over a +1 for both. He backs up his sale-leading carcass quality with above average indexes on ultrasound day. Enough about his data, he’s a pretty darn good bull also. Really attractive through his shoulders and neck, he neatly balances all his raw muscle and power into a very nice package. His dam is a direct daughter of our donor Elba 1004, and a member of a good flush of Bomber daughters. A stout, big ribbed female, she has a very nice udder and is off to a bright future in our herd. This is a really good bull sired by Coalition. He’s not pictured. Should’ve been. We’ve sold such a numerous amount of Coalition sons that we pictured less of them this year than in years past and Lot 27 fell victim to this as did many of his half-brothers. On paper, there isn’t hardly a bull that can rival this dude’s performance from weaning to yearling. He has a great, big rear end, tons of stifle expression, a bold forearm when he faces you, and travels on a really complete structure. His dam is one of the few Scotsman 5274 daughters that we have and what a cow she is turning into. She would have about as well attached and small teated of an udder as we have in our cowherd, and she stems from the Pride Anna cow family that produced Summit and Whitlock. Herd bull prospect. He’s that kind.

What a stud by Triumph. Lot 41 has a +17 CED and a -4.1 BW Epd. He weighed 66 pounds at birth. Moving past those stats, he is one of the absolute best bulls in this sale offering. A calving ease herd bull prospect supreme, so many things lined up genetically and phenotypically in Lot 41. Visually he is stirring to view. So nicely balanced, he blends the smoothness of a heifer bull with the muscle of a high performing, power adding herd sire so well. Ratios for 110 at both weaning and yearling, 111 for marbling and scanning nearly a 15-inch ribeye to ratio 115. His dam is the best heifer that we calved out last spring. Generationally she has great udders stacked into her pedigree and she did not disappoint. A bigger than average “316” she has a tidy udder with refined evenly spaced teats. Her dam, Gloria 869, is a stellar producing Coalition daughter with a 3/111 weaning ratio herself, and is nursing a total stud by Armstrong this spring. Calving ease herd sire prospect. He’ll be worth seeing May 1st. Suitable for heifers. Selling 2/3 interest and full possession.

The second in a pair of 7/8 brothers sired by Triumph. Much like Lot 41, this good dude is going to be looking for heifers this summer, but does so in with a powerful phenotypic build. He started life at 54 pounds and that’s the last thing he did in a light fashion. He grew heavy to weaning, ratioed even higher at yearling, and is super stout, heavy boned and expressive in his muscle. His young dam has the look of a female that’s going to be a good one. Moderate framed, good uddered, and calved again early in her 2nd go. If you need a pair of heifer bulls, and want sure fire calving ease yet still want performance and front pasture maternal, 41 and 42 need to make your list.
Suitable for heifers.
One of the most exciting Coalition sons we have ever produced in Lot 43. This moderate framed bull is a big topped, thick quartered calf, with more marbling genetics than most of the Coalition sons. He ratioed 128 for IMF, has +.85 marbling Epd and records individual weaning and yearling ratios of 107. His genetic value only increases with the bottom side of his pedigree. He is a maternal brother to S Armstrong, the $90,000 high seller from last year’s sale, making him out of the highly productive Queen Essa 7149 female. She is a moderate framed cow, with a great attitude, a superb udder and a 4/108 progeny weaning ratio. This past summer she entered our donor rotation and we will be trying to accumulate as many of her daughters as possible. Lot 43 has the genetic capability to be as good of a female sire as any bull in this offering. Really good Coalition son.

Another standout Tahoe son with performance adding data and Epds. This good looking, big butted bull has one of the highest weaning and yearling Epds tabulations of any bull in this sale. As his dam’s first calf he really excelled, indexing 111 at yearling. The Tahoe x Coalition cross has really been a potent mating for us and this bull firms up that statement. His dam is a beauty of a young female. A daughter of a second-generation Blossom donor, she is a maternal sister to the Tahoe sons that sell as Lots 5 and 6 in this sale.

Lot 45-46.
The second pair of flush brother Triumph bulls out of Erelite 109Z. This pair of bulls much like their full brothers that sell as 10 and 11, are really feature individuals. The amount of muscle shape, stoutness of bone, and power they possess is exciting. Their donor dam is about as good of an Angus female as we have ever seen. So powerfully built, yet still refined about her head and neck, while also maintaining a really nice udder. Her ability to “power up” a sire is uncanny. This group of Triumph bulls by her contain the genetic potential for rapid cowherd advancement. With the inherent power of 109Z in their pedigree coupled with the breeding attributes of Triumph, they have what it takes to be herd changers.
Individually, Lot 45 is maybe the best structured and balanced bull of the entire flush. He’s really cool in his design and build. He scanned a 15 inch ribeye, has a great big rear end, and is delightful to see on the move. With AngusGS incorporated into his Epds he reads like a heifer bull, we will let you make the decision on that. Herd bull prospect.
Lot 46, has as much stoutness of bone as any of the full brothers. A little more moderate in his build, he is really rugged in his construction, while still offering the same expressive muscle pattern as all of these full brothers.

Really a good bull phenotypically by Triumph. Lot 47 is put together so well. He is a strong topped, level designed bull, with added width and shape to his hip and rear quarter. He handles himself well on the move and is hard to ever find not looking good. His dam is the result of a mating Cornerstone on a Coalition daughter. We’ve done this mating numerous times and the results its yielded are pleasing every time. A good-sized female, Elba 939, is one of the nicest put together young females on the ranch. Super feminine and angular, yet has the body mass and power to raise a herd bull prospect. Good bull. Suitable for heifers.

The first Jump Start son to sell in this year’s sale and what a bull he is. Lot 48 started life at 72 pounds, raced off to a 109 weaning ratio as his dams first calf and continued to perform well to yearling time. Even though he is suitable for heifer mating’s, he has the performance and growth Epd profile to indicate that his calves won’t take a back seat to anyone on growth. His dam is a young “316” daughter who is moderate framed and traces back to one of our favorite Cornerstone females. Suitable for heifers.
S Jump Start 923 was the lead bull of a powerful group of Powerpoint sons out of donor dam Gloria 0406. He has done a very nice job as a breeding bull in our program. His sons offer calving ease with extra carcass merit. This past spring we have calved his first females. They are truly all we had hoped for. Great udders, great mothers, and are raising big calves, the maternal siring portion of Jump Start will be where this sires legacy is made. 8 sons sell May 1!

Coalition has served us well over the years for a various number of reasons. A big reason is the phenotype he stamps into his progeny over and over. Lot 52 is another example of what Coalition does. He’s so cool in his build, right in his structure, expressively muscled and stout boned. His performance is solid and he offers double-digit CED. The dam behind 52 is a maternal sister to Foundation 514 and one of the strong producing mature matrons in our herd. A big barreled, easy keeping female she always brings in a good one. Another quality Coalition son in Lot 52. Suitable for heifers.
Lots 53-55
Lots 53,54, and 55 represent 3 more of the Niagara x Vermilion Lass 0045 flush brothers. We incorporated Niagara into our program through our ET program and have been so pleased with the results. These three bulls, much like their full brothers offer so much good to the industry. Strong in their individual performance, they are all low birth calving ease bulls with added marbling genetics. Visually, they are easy to like. With added frame and length, they still present adequate muscle shape and expression. Their donor dam was purchased as the high selling female of her age group dispersion from Vermilion Ranch and has been an exceptional member of our donor roster. We have calved her ET daughters by Cornerstone, Coalition, as well as by Niagara and her ability to pass on her udder quality and teat size is one of her major strengths. These good Niagara sons, along with their flush mates would be a great opportunity to seize a little different pedigree option than much of this sale, and still know that the maternal genetics behind the pedigree are top notch. All three are suitable for heifers.

The second pair of full brother bulls to sell in the Innovation x Elba 1004 mating. These two bulls are almost identical numerically, genetically, and when their performance was measured. Individuals with added frame, length, and extension from end to end they have the look and capability to really enhance the size of a more moderate set of cows. Their donor dam has served us so well over the years. We have never had a mating of hers that has disappointed us. The potency she has to add her body type, extra mass and doing ability to her progeny is uncanny, while also passing on her laid back temperament. These bulls are a bit of a generational step back as both Innovation and Elba were born 13 years ago, but the genetics these good flush brothers contain are still very relevant to today. Put these bulls to use with confidence. You’ll be glad you did. And keep every daughter they sire, that’ll also be a major positive.

Lot 110-111
One of the most uniform pairs of ET bulls that we will offer in this entire sale in Lots 110 and 111. Sired by Triumph, and out of donor dam Heiress 193, this pair would have the ability to sire as nice of daughters as can be. Heiress is an easy going, easy fleshing female, who calved again this spring as a 12-year-old and still maintains her soundness, quality udder and good feet. As individuals these bulls are so neatly constructed. Built so right in their structure they are level-topped, square hipped and display added muscle shape and dimension. If you desire feeder calves with a real beef animal look and want to keep replacement females, this pair of ET brothers should be put to work.

When we had the opportunity to purchase U2 Erelite 109Z and add her to our donor rotation we were beyond excited with what the future held by owning this great female. A cow that had already proven herself by her many natural calves, most notably U2 Coalition, she had worked on every sire she’d been bred to, adding mass and power to her progeny. Our 2023 production sale marks just the second ET mating of hers that is of age to be offered to sale. When we chose to flush her to Coleman Triumph, we thought the two would really complement each other and play off of each one’s strengths. The strength and consistency of this mating is beyond what we even imagined. The full brother bulls from this flush are some of the stoutest, heaviest muscled, highest performing, best phenotypic bulls in the entire offering. And the heifer mates. What a group. It was a challenging decision to decide which powerhouse daughter we should sell. In the end, we are offering Erelite 2266 as the first daughter of 109Z to ever sell in our operation. She is a powerhouse of a heifer. Containing outlier growth, she is built right structurally, has a ton of length, lots of mass and enormous genetic potential. She is a female that blends two of the really good cows in the Angus breed in 109Z and Chloe C815 and does it with so much quality. Erelite 2266 is a force to be reckoned with. One of the most influential females we have ever offered, she contains genetic potential that is unparalleled. Retaining the right to one future flush of 6 transferrable embryos.

Our commitment in our registered heifer division is to offer heifers that truly are “elite.” In staying the course, we have made the challenging decision to put Cora 296 into our 2023 production sale. This heifer is about as good as it gets and one of the absolute best heifers we have ever sold. A dominant standout in terms of the way she is put together, she doesn’t know how to do anything unless it’s at the highest level possible. Visually she confirms this statement. We won’t offer and don’t have another heifer in our 2022 crop that is quite like her. She has so much body, rib and flank, yet is still attractive, really good structured and full of muscle. A female that can get out and move, she presents herself visually with a striking visual appeal, and is challenged to ever find not looking good. Her ability to perform at the highest level possible is again validated at every performance measure. She ratioed 119 at weaning, 117 at yearling, 115 for marbling, and scanned a large 14.7 inch ribeye to ratio 135. Beyond all this, she is out of a whale of a young Coalition daughter. We don’t have a picture of her dam to include in the catalog, but is one that we make a point to show to any visitors to the ranch. She is a female that is really feminine, yet powerful in herd build, and has a really high quality udder. She is off to a great start as an elite producing female recording a progeny weaning ratio of 3/113 and also recording progeny ratios of 3/104 for IMF and 3/119 for ribeye. A true muscle adding, high production female. In the past two years we have mated Tahoe to Coalition females many times. It has absolutely worked, and the standout we will sell as Lot 202 may just be the highest validation of the potency of this cross. She’s special. Future donor. Retaining the right to one future flush of 6 transferrable embryos.
We have offered many daughters of Coalition over the past several years but there haven’t been many as unique genetically as the featured female we have in Lot 203. A new cow family to us, her dam joined our program as a bred heifer and is a direct daughter of the highly proven, $31,000 Pine Coulee Black Annie U7. U7 is a cow that really embodies the visual ideal of an Angus female. So nice in her kind, her production speaks for herself as she records a 5/110 progeny WR, her impact in the good Pine Coulee herd is astounding. Closing in on over a quarter million in progeny sales at Pine Coulee, we were excited to add her cow family to our operation through the purchase of the Stunner dam of Lot 203. G39 is an exquisitely nice uddered female, with refined, evenly spaced teats. We thought it was only fitting to join a cow family with the heritage of the Black Annie’s to our female maker, Coalition, and we are so glad we did. This heifer is really special. A standout from birth, she was the top performing natural born heifer at weaning with a 124 ratio and continued to perform to a year with a 114 index. Visually, she is a female that balances an overabundance of muscle with a style that often does not go hand in hand. Her expressive top, wide hip and bulging quarter is confirmed as she scanned a 14.3 inch ribeye to ratio 131. Her pedigree combination of Coalition and donor dam U7 has us beyond excited about what this female will produce and we can only imagine how cool she is going to look when she is nursing her first calf. Retaining the right to one future flush of 6 transferrable embryos.
Every year we commit to trying to offer an elite female off of every ET mating that we have. In staying true to that commitment, the foundational powerhouse of a female we have in Lot 204 finds her way into our 2023 sale offering. A daughter of our highly proven matriarch donor, Elba 1004, she is sired by seasoned Genex veteran, MAR Innovation 251. This is a mating that absolutely worked. Her six full brothers offered in the pages ahead are validation of the prowess of this mating. They are stout, muscle bulls with added growth, body and bone. It was a challenging decision to allow Elba 271 into the sale pen. She is so stout, massively built, and powerful, along with being backed by an Epd profile that furthers her usefulness. A heifer that scanned well above average for marbling, her visual muscle is confirmed by her 13.3 inch ribeye that garnered her a 115 ratio. Her donor dam is a really special cow that does it uncanny in her ability to pass on her calm disposition, extra mass, and desirable maternal temperament. Elba 271 is a combination of time-tested genetics that have immediate positive application to the industry today. She’s one to grab ahold of. Good heifer. Future donor.

An easy find upon entering our heifer pen, this heifer is one that carries herself with an extreme amount of class and elegance. So nicely balanced, she is right in her structure, stands down on plenty of bone, exhibits muscle and power when viewed from every direction and still blends angularity and femininity about her head and neck. Every time her performance has been measured, she has scored about as high as any could. Compiling ratios that would make many heifers envious she ranks in the elite of our entire 2022 born heifer calf crop. Her dam is a productive young Resource daughter who contains the same docility, body mass, and power as her donor dam. The Elba cow family is leaving its mark in our cowherd, adding Lot 205 to yours will attain this positive influence to your program.

We have chosen to feature several females in our 2023 heifer offering that carry the influence of power donor dam, Gloria 1146. Gloria is a full sister to our foundational sire Chisum 6175 and has the same unique ability to pass muscle and performance over and over onto her progeny. The next four lots are all out of different ET daughters of Gloria 1146 that have all excelled in their producing abilities. The first one in this string of Gloria’s we are offering is Lot 206. A Tahoe daughter, she is rich in numeric and maternal producing abilities. A deep ribbed, big-middled female, she offers calf crop leading growth at weaning and yearling, while being backed by a performance Epd profile that allows her to contribute greatly to the numeric marketability of her progeny. Her dam, an ET daughter of Coalition, was a member of an incredible flush. The bulls from this mating were really stout, powerful studs that epitomized muscle in Angus cattle. The heifers, Gloria 9312 included epitomized quality in an Angus female. Stout and powerful, all of the heifer mates still looked like heifers and have had very nice udders as they have come into production. Lot 206 is a great opportunity to tie into maternal producing strength at its forefront.

Real phenotypic gem sired by Tahoe in this second in a string of four females influence by donor dam and full sister to Chisum, Gloria 1146. A heifer that is good and knows it, Lot 207 is hard to ever find not looking good. Built so right structurally, she comes about her phenotypic excellence honestly as she puts her feet down square and is level in her build. Beyond this she is a high-performing, muscle adding power kind of cow prospect with nearly a +1 ribeye Epd. Her dam blends a mating of power on power. Resource on a full sister to Chisum. And her dam epitomizes power in an Angus female. A good-sized cow, she is way stout, big topped and thick. This heifer will be worth looking at May 1st.
One of the neatest heifers in our 2023 offering in Lot 208. A daughter of Logo, tracing back to donor dam Gloria 1146, she is a ¾ sister to Lot 209. Visually she is captivating. Ultra long bodied, she holds herself together on the move, traveling with a freeness that heifers with this much power don’t always have. From her shoulders forward she is really smooth and angular, and still contains a ton of top shape, width, and overall mass. She was one of the performance stars of the entire calf crop and also ratioed 114 for ribeye. On paper her Epds further assimilate her stance as a real herd building female. Our Niagara females are really nice and her dam is no different. A tidy, very small teated female, her producing potential seems to be genetically consistent as a flush sister raised the standout 111 weaning ratio Triumph son featured as Lot 9 in this sale. This heifer is one of the stars of this offering and one of the elite females born at our ranch last year.

Lot 210 - The lone daughter of donor dam Heiress 193 that we are offering in 2023 and what a sweetheart of a female she is. Phenotypically she is about as nicely balanced and feminine as any in the offering. An angular, sharp fronted heifer, she widens through her chest floor and carries her depth well into her center body. She has the build of a female that is ready for any environment and will just go out and work. Her donor dam is a high producing, really calm daughter of our female making legend, Summit 956. Heiress is a marvel in her ability to make her progeny quiet, massively built and sound. We don’t flush an overabundance of females, the ones that we do we hold in high regard. Lot 210 is a great opportunity to add what we feel is our very best maternal genetics to your operation.
Lot 211 - What a powerhouse of a female in the first Wrangler daughter offered in our 2023 production sale. A really stout, big bodied, high capacity female, all she knows is success when it comes to getting her performance measured. After weaning off her first calf dam with a heavy 111 ratio, she maintained her performance level and ratioed 111 at a year. A high carcass merit female, she scanned above average for ribeye and boasts a 158 ratio for marbling. Behind all her phenotypic and numeric excitement, she has big-time maternal strength running through her genes. Her dam is a stout, good sized young Cornerstone daughter who was a member of a really powerful flush of heifers, out of our Vermilion donor, Lass 0045. Lass has served us so well, added body and power to her progeny while consistently passing on her strong udder qualities. This heifer holds worlds of producing potential and will be really missed in our replacement pasture this summer.

Another Architect daughter who holds worlds of producing potential. A stout made, heavy muscled female, this performance geared heifer scanned a 13-inch ribeye to ratio 119, while also posting a 132 ratio for marbling. Indexing above average at her performance checks, she is backed by a strong producing mature Coalition daughter who was sired from his first calf crop. Her ability to pass on her udder quality and teat size is almost unparalleled. The list of her accomplishments continues to grow with every calf crop and every mating we raise out of her. From raising Chisum 255 to Cornerstone 607, along with several high-selling daughters she gets the job done year after year for us. Of all the progeny we have by her, this heifer by Coalition that will sell as Lot 212 may bid as much maternal excitement as any mating of hers we have had. With already having a mature, 5-year-old full sister in production we have witnessed what this heifer could look like in production and it’s exciting. Visually, Lot 212 offers a lot of quality. A heifer that is refined and feminine, she still has loads of body mass and power and scanned with above average muscle. There are heifers in this offering with more Epds for this or that, but when it comes right down to who is going to look like, and produce like an elite Angus cow should, there isn’t a female that holds more potential than this heifer. Donor potential.

What a tank sired by Architect. This Pride Anna heifer selling as Lot 214 is one of the deepest bodied heifers in the entire offering. She also offers a numeric backing that is hard to fault. From her +11 CED to her +130 YW, she is ready to blend well with about any sire she is mated to. A female that was a star every time we measured her performance, she ratioed above average at weaning and yearling, while boasting high carcass ratios of 112 and 122 for marbling and ribeye. Generationally, she stems from a line of very consistently quiet females with tidy, well-attached udders. Her dam’s pedigree contains the most noted sires we have used for udder quality and maternal function as she is a Coalition x Summit x Chinook. Good heifer

After calving our first Jump Start daughters this past spring this is a sire group that we have chosen to hang on to quite tightly. Short on his heifers in this calf crop, we only are offering one in this year’s sale. They are nice young cows. Great dispositions, tidy udders with small teats, and feed their calves well. His lone daughter in our 2023 heifer division is one that we think will be really, really a good cow. Multi-generational for strong udder quality, she is a deep bodied, stout heifer, with balanced Epds across all traits. A high-performing female, she has ratioed above average at every performance checkpoint. The only Jump Start female in the sale but she carries with her the proven and reliable genetics to make her as valuable of a cow prospect as any female we will sell.

The lone daughter of donor dam Lass 0045 in our 2023 sale and what a useful heifer she is. Sired by Niagara, her 6 full brothers in our bull division are some of the stoutest, highest performers in our entire offering. As an individual, this heifer is really complete in how she is made. Stout enough, yet refined enough to still have a very feminine appearance. Big enough, yet moderate enough that she offers much mating flexibility. With above average carcass Epds and a 126 marbling ratio her mating diversity widens further. Her donor dam has served us so well. She passes on her quality udder and producing power rampantly through her many ET daughters. We calved one full sister to this heifer last year and she is stellar. Beautiful uddered, small teated and raised a big Wrangler heifer calf that ratioed 112 at weaning and 122 at yearling. This will be a herd building heifer, with the body type and genetic make up to mate well with virtually and sire.

From her strong Epd profile, to her 116 weaning ratio, 109 yearling ratio, 106 ribeye ratio and wild 158 marbling ratio she checks every box. What’s even more exciting is that we do get to see her and what a heifer she is. So feminine fronted, yet bold chested, expansive in her rib shape and expressive in her muscle. Her dam is a great young Powerpoint female. From her kind attitude to refined teat to 2/115 weaning ratio, she is setting herself up to be a real difference maker in our herd. Be sure to locate this one sale day – she’s going to be a good one.

Phenotypic gem by Tahoe in the good-numbered heifer that sells at Lot 220. The mating of Tahoe on a Coalition daughter has been one of the most complementary genetic combinations we have made in recent years, and this heifer is no different. A really classy, good-fronted heifer, she balances next level muscle with elegance, while offering performance that is as good as any in this sale. Her dam is a moderate framed, easy-going Coalition who traces back to a Courage x Chinook female, and then ultimately our matriarch Right Time donor, Queen Essa 208. The maternal royalty contained inherently in the pedigree of this heifer, combined with her phenotypic and genetic excellence make her one to be reckoned with in this sale offering.

Logo daughter with added femininity and style. This descendant of the Pride cow family is really balanced and complete in her type and offers a very usable Epd package with double-digit CED to a +83 weaning Epd. Her dam is one of the biggest daughters of Coalition on the ranch and comes about her size honestly as she stems from above average framed daughters of Courage and Chisum 6175. Maternal production is very strong as well in this good cow prospect as her dam is 2/114 WR and her grand dam is 6/109 WR. We really like our Logo daughters. This good Pride heifer should be good uddered, high producing, and make a lasting impact in any operation.

The last of the Tahoe daughters in our 2023 sale offering in this stout made, big ribbed female. Offering as much low birth genetics an any heifer in the offering, this +15 CED female excelled on carcass ultrasound day as she ratioed 117 for marbling. Her dam is a moderate framed, heavy built daughter of Open Country with a solid 5/103 weaning ratio. After calving our first wave of Tahoe females this spring we couldn’t be more impressed with them. They are good uddered, calm mannered females, who appear to be raising their calves very well to this point.

Really a classy, sharp made, neat fronted Mayflower heifer in Lot 228. This 123 marbling ratio female travels about on a really sound structure, has added muscle shape and combines the added carcass genetics of Niagara and Powerpoint. Her sire is a Niagara son we retained for in herd use out of donor dam Heiress 193, and her dam is an absolute powerful daughter of Powerpoint. A big middled, deep-flanked, good sized cow, she is always in good condition.

The last Wrangler daughter in the offering and what a useful female she is. A deep bodied, big- middled heifer with extra depth of flank, she has performed well at every measuring point and offers a highly versatile Epd profile with extra calving ease. Her dam is a really nice Unanimous daughter, with small teats and a well attached udder, who traces back to donor dam Gloria 0406. This good heifer has a pedigree stacked for nice udders and enhanced maternal production.

Rounding out this year’s registered heifer offering is a sweetheart of a female. The youngest in the group, this late April born heifer is quiet, right in her structure and feminine. She has performed well and scanned with a large 12.4-inch ribeye to ratio 114. Her highly productive dam posts above average production ratios for all traits including a 4/111 IMF ratio and 4/103 ribeye ratio. A direct daughter of breed legend Traveler 6807 she traces back to our Mayflower 724 donor dam. Lot 230 is genetically full of maternal heavyweights and has as much producing potential as any heifer in the offering.
Commercial Heifers - This group of commercial females largely represents the younger, pasture sired portion of our calf crop, and include some of our strongest female genetics. They received a Bovi-shield Gold 5VL5 pre-breeding vaccination and have been poured. They have been developed right along with our replacements all winter, and are ready to breed. Every heifer is a registerable Angus female. Registraton papers are available for $150/head. The heifers will sell in a numeric gate cut in groups of 5 or more starting with Lot 301. The winning bidder can go as deep into the offering as they so choose.

S Armstrong was the $90,000 high selling bull of our 2022 sale offering. A bull that created a stir of interest, he is one of the most balanced bulls numerically available in the Angus breed. Backed by generational udder quality and maternal production, his dam is a sweetheart of a female. Moderate in stature, she is a quiet, high producer with a great udder, who traces back to Game Day and Right Time. On paper, Armstrong is one of the highest combination bulls for maternal value, while still offering growth and carcass merit that will advance performance output. We have a good jag of his calves running around this spring and they have us excited. Small at birth, they are vigorous and rapidly growing and filling out. Look for a big sire group of Armstrong sons to headline our 2024 sale offering. For semen contact ST Genetics.

Leachman Heritage was added to our program last April as our pick of the Midland Bull Test. A really balanced and complete individual, he is sired by the popular Resilient backed by a pathfinder Upward and Right Time females. Visually he is a really deep bodied, stout made bull, who we expect to add size and performance to his progeny. His dam and grand dam are shining stars in the Leachman herd, having progeny weaning ratios of 6/112 and 9/110 respectively. We put Heritage to work both in our AI program and breeding pastures last summer and are really excited with what we have seen so far. His calves have come nice, have lots of length and appear to be really growing. Look for a good-sized sire group of his sons in 2024.
Expected Progeny Difference (EPD) The prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE.
Calving Ease Direct (CED) is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in firstcalf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers.
Birth Weight EPD (BW) expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Weaning Weight EPD (WW) expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Yearling Weight EPD (YW) expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires.
Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC) expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.
Maternal Milk EPD (Milk) is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability.
The genetic evaluation produces a single set of EPDs for carcass weight, marbling score, Ribeye area and fat thickness. The units of measure are in carcass trait format and analyzed on an age-constant basis.
Marbling EPD (Marb) expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
Ribeye Area EPD (RE) expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.
BR - The number of calves a dam has birthed and their combined average ratio for birthweight (100=average)
WR - The number of calves a dam has weaned and their combined average 205 weight ratio (100 = average)
YR - The number of calves a dam has had 365 weights taken on and their combined average ratio (100 = average)
$Value indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. $Values are reported in dollars per head, where a higher value is more favorable. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, onaverage, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.
Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) - an index expressed in dollars per head, predicts profitability differences in progeny due to genetics from conception to weaning. $M is built off of a self-replacing herd model where commercial cattlemen replace 25% of their breeding females in the first generation and 20% in subsequent generations. Remaining cull females and all male progeny are sold as feeder calves. Increased selection pressure on $M aims to decrease overall mature cow size and improve foot structure and fertility while maintaining weaning weights consistent with today’s production.
Beef Value ($B) an index expressed in dollars per carcass, facilitates simultaneous multi-trait genetic selection for feedlot and carcass merit. $B represents the expected average differences in the progeny postweaning performance and carcass value compared to progeny of other sires. This index assumes commercial producers wean all male and female progeny, retain ownership of these animals through the feedlot phase and market these animals on a quality-based carcass grid.
Combined Value ($C) an index, expressed in dollars per head, which includes all traits that make up both Maternal Weaned Calf Value ($M) and Beef Value ($B) with the objective that commercial producers will replace 20% of their breeding females per year with replacement heifers retained within their own herd. The remaining cull heifer and steer progeny are then assumed to be sent to the feedlot where the producers retain ownership of those cattle and sell them on a quality-based carcass merit grid.
BW - Actual birth weight taken within 12 hours of age with a digital scale.
205 Wt - Weaning weight adjusted to 205 days of age.
205 Wt Ratio - The percentage above or below average (100=average) a bull is for his 205 day weaning weight.
