DEVOTIONS By Gino Jauwena
Corinthians 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him.
Usually in life, with all the work and activities that we have, life may seem unclear and purposeless to us. We may feel that God’s presence is not there for you or that God does not exist. There are also a lot of modern philosophies out there that promote a life without a purpose (ex. existentialism), even to go as far as that it is futile to even make our own purpose (ex. nihilism). In the book of Ecclesiastes as well, it describes life with the Hebrew word “hevel”, which means smoke. It is a metaphor to describe how life - like smoke - is mysterious and once you try to “grab” or to grasp life, it “disappears” or can’t be understood. We probably have felt like this in life, in which we view life as “hevel” and become confused on what to do. However, God spoke through the apostle Paul that, “all things were created through him and for him.” Though life may seem unclear to us and is like “hevel”, God promises us that all things - including us - have a purpose, and that purpose, is to serve God Himself. Even at the end of Ecclesiastes, although it centers the book around the absurdity of life, it tells us that life has meaning, even when we cannot make sense of it. What we need to do is to try to keep faith in God, even if He seems lost to us, He will give us a sense of purpose in the midst of the “hevel”.

It is currently the number one most comfortable spot to go to– so remember to pay a visit to our new library when you can! photo by Kelvyn Hardja
fun fund day: climate crisis Fun Fund Day was held on February 7, 2020, as a fundraiser event for existing clubs within SPH Sentul. A total of 5 clubs joined, which are ECOLUTION, Sayap Ilmu, Bye Bye Plastic Bogor Sentul City, Shoptuary, and Project Revitalize. There were various fundraising games held by each club and collectively, they have managed to collect almost 1 million from this event! With contribution from the school, around 2.2 million+ has been donated to a KitaBisa link targeted for the Australia wildfire. The event was a huge success!
CARING DAY Project Reviltaize

BASKETBALL NEWS By Tan Heizel
This NBA season is a real bummer for us Warriors fans. We are forced to watch as our team falls into the last spot in the standings. Steph broke his left arm, Klay has an achilles injury, we have no center and KD’s traded to Brooklyn. We all know that the truth is, the Warriors
ULTIMATE TEAM LINEUP
are not making the playoffs. This means that the GM for the Warriors has been gathering assets. As we know, the Warriors have recently acquired Andrew Wiggins from the Timberwolves in exchange for D’angelo Russell. Wiggins is a very good all around player, he has the height advantage as well as the ability to score on others. The Warriors also acquired a top three protected 2021 first round pick and a second round pick from the Timberwolves. This means that the Warriors are likely to acquire Cade Cuningham, a prospect from Oklahoma State. He is a big guard, which will be useful for the Warriors. Cade has very good court vision and is very wise in decision making. He will complete the Warriors rebuild. The Warriors can also trade for Lamelo Ball in the 2020 draft pick. Since most likely the Warriors are getting a top 5 pick because they have one of the worst records this season. Lamelo will be the second step of the Warriors ultimate rebuild lineup, which will consist of; Steph, Klay, Lamelo Draymond and Wiggins. This will be the first rebuild lineup which will be done by the 2020-2021 season. Then during the 2021-2022 season the Warriors will have Cade Cuningham switching with Lamelo and or Steph. This will be the rebuilding of the Warriors Dynasty.

However, what makes this cloud gaming service a bit different from the rest of the crowd is the fact that you can use your existing library of PC games. It is not like Google Stadia, the disaster where you must not only pay monthly for the service but also have to pay for games on Google’s store. THE 2020 OSCARS A recap by Ali Arshy Sumono A new year marks a time to reflect as we choose to acknowledge the merits of the film industry with the 92nd Academy Award that was held in California Los Angeles on the 10th of February. We’ll delve into the winners of the awards already given and explore alternative nominees.
BEST PICTURE: PARASITE The award-winning Korean film Parasite directed by Bong Joon Ho is one of the few movies to mark this extraordinary year for films. The movie delves into the story of the Kim family who has taken interest in a wealthy family named the Parks. The Kim’s are displayed as a low middle-class family who struggles to make a living until they manage to “parasitize” the Parks by having jobs as a driver, housekeeper, and a tutor. The whole time the Parks have no idea these people are scamming them until an unexpected turn of events changes these two family’s lives forever. Bong Joon Ho’s film manages to transcend from light to dark type of humor to commentate on social disparity through the relationship between these two families. Working with incredible cinematographer Kyung-Pyo Hong and an A-list design team, his film manages to enthrall every single composition. The clean, empty spaces of the Park home contrasted against the tight quarters of the Kim living arrangement isn’t just symbolic, it’s visually stimulating
7
without ever trying to be the center of attention. Bong Joon Ho’s unique style of cinematography captures the chaos within the story perfectly and manages to blend the story rivetingly that leaves its viewers in suspense and awe.
WHATS HOT?
WHO COULD'VE WON: MARRIAGE STORY Directed by Noah Baumbach, the film depicts the stages of a divorce from the perspective of two couples portrayed by Adam Driver and Scarlet Johansson who are still trying to maintain a relationship as a family for the sake of their son. This all occurs as they go through a lengthy legal process to finalize their divorce. Despite the film not winning the award, Noah Baumbach manages to capture intricate details through his character’s small life interactions showing quirky moments that many viewers won’t normally expect to see on film. The film’s highlights include the performance of the actors involved as each character’s raw emotions and thoughts are perfectly captured by Adam and Scarlet. Noah divides the scenes flawlessly where viewers are able to understand both of the couple’s perspective where they don’t see one as good or bad but as two couples who are both in one way or another, flawed for each other.
Marriage Story is one of those few films that are up as serious contenders for the best picture award as he’s able to present the pain of separation between two married people through a drama that describes the degradation of their relationship.
BEST ACTOR: JOAQUIN PHOENIX Joaquin Phoenix makes history as he becomes the second actor to play the Joker on the silver screen to win an award with Heath Ledger being the first for the best-supporting actor. Like Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning turn in The Dark Knight, Joker has an ace card in the form of Joaquin Phoenix’s mesmerisingly physical portrayal of a man who would be king. Reduced to a skeletal state by a diet of
8
WHATS HOT?
nicotine and pain, Phoenix’s joker is a tragicomic nightmare, a beleaguered, sign-twirling clown who suffers from a medical condition that turns his internal struggles and pain into cackling laughter. From twisting his face and body into contortions that defy human physics to dance and laughing maniacally at the stairs connecting Shakespeare and Anderson avenue at West 167th street of the Bronx, Phoenix manages to leave the audience to feel and fear for a deranged psychopath whom is capable to bring chaos if left unchecked.
WHO COULD'VE WON: ADAM DRIVER Adam’s stellar performance in Marriage story is one to be considered as he manages to capture the fragility of a father going through a divorce. Both Driver and Johansson’s characters are given monologue type moments within the film where they explode with raw emotions and reveal everything, they’ve suppressed throughout.Driver is able to play a believable person whom the audience can see and relate to their own lives. Despite the outcome of the legal separation between his character’s wife, Driver is able to accept it with dignity and show that despite the change, his unconditional love for his wife doesn’t, even when everything else in his life doesn’t make sense.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR: BRAD PITT Cliff Booth from Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is one of the few unforgettable characters from an iconic movie directed by Quentin Tarantino. Pitt’s character plays a pivotal role as a best friend and assistant to DiCaprio’s character Rick Dalton. With his character history who was once a stuntman, Pitt manages to embrace the role through his fit physic also his simply embraces the role. Pitt manages to successfully play a badass character under Tarantino’s clear vision as the audience is given a mysterious yet cool-headed guy.
9
WHATS HOT?
WHO COULD’VE WON: JOE PESCI DWith a film like the Irishman, filled with excellent casting choices such as Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, Joe Pesci as the Italian crime boss Russell Bufalino is one of the few amazing things this film has to offer. The movie portrays him as the father figure and the businessman in the mobster family being both a wise advisor and murderer, except leaves the actual killing to others. And so, where does Pesci’s performance rank out of all the others such as De Niro and Pacino? Unlike the characters of his past, Pesci’s Bufalino is a somewhat quiet, extraordinarily measured man. His character’s subtle role within the family displays a composed yet fearful Godfather-like mobster who is willing to commit cold-blooded by ordering De Niro’s character around as the hitman for the mob family. All the while as he enjoys breaking bread and dipping it in wine as he knows that he’s made a successful run of a mob empire.
BEST ACTRESS: RENÉE ZELLWEGER Though the formulaic structure of Judy may be a bit of a drag, Zellweger offers a touching portrait of a great Hollywood tragedy. Struggling through booing crowds, custody battles, and empty bank accounts, she does an excellent job of inhabiting the drug-laden, wounded star in her twilight. It’s never easy to depict life-consuming weariness, but Zellweger does not exactly play a Norma Desmond or Margo Channing, either. We see every twitch and affected mannerisms caused by her abusive childhood yet fail to feel Judy Garland naturally, instead left with distracting, forced fidgeting that serves only for plot development and the reaffirmation of mythology. Judy is ultimately a story of redemption, of moving on through things, and Zellweger stirs and stuns in her on-stage moments, despite an often overly accented act, proving well her performance genius.
10
WHATS HOT?
WHO COULD’VE WON: SCARLETT JOHANSSON Johansson in Marriage Story displays similar high-quality performance in comparison to her co-star Driver. Her character’s flaws are ever so present in all of us that we may find ourselves hating her at some point in the movie and yet we may find ourselves rooting for her in the next. Her character’s direction under Baumbach gives her the freedom to explore the perspective of a mother who went through a divorce and the fallout of her relationship with her cheating husband.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS: LAURA DERN It is undeniable that Noah Baumbach manages to create intricate details through his storytelling and his characters for Marriage story. Laura Dern plays a hard-headed divorce attorney representing Johansson’s character. Although she was recognizable for one monologue scene in the movie, her character’s influence is undeniably present throughout the film, especially during off-court scenes.
WHO COULD’VE WON: FLORENCE PUGH The greatest character interpretation in Little Women (and perhaps all of them earns a moniker along the lines of that, really) is its ‘least likable’ March sister: Amy. Not so headstrong or homely or quiet and dignified like her the others, Pugh gives voice to the more complicated drives of the baby in the family. Amy transitions gracefully from the annoying child who gets jealous at just about everything her sisters can do into an adult with moving self-respect. Pugh is sympathetic to the character, and we see so much of ourselves in her not knowing how to deal with her emotions or problems on a grand scale but who tries hard in everything anyway: there’s an Amy in all of us.

THE SIMPSONS : FORESHADOW OF THE FUTURE Renowned as one of the most iconic TV shows of all time, the Simpsons have been around for more than three decades now. But why is it so popular? Aside from its political satires, commentaries on current trends and deep characterization, one of its greatest appeals that hook interest are its ability to project future events. Uncanny, that the show’s writers managed to pinpoint exact occurrences - many of which are oddly parallel to the path humanity is following, in the political, cultural, and social world. How many of them are there, one might ask? Perhaps too much.

The Simpsons provided a glimpse of America’s future in the hands of Donald Trump, airing the fictional episode 17 years before he actually came into office.
Disney's takeover of Firefox
Season 11 Ep. 17: Bart of the Future
Once again 17 years prior to the real occurrence of an Ebola Outbreak in Africa, a reference to the virus was aired in this episode.
Homer is depicted in a scene where he is attempting to solve a complex equation on the chalkboard. Little did he know that 14 years later, in the real dimension, outside Springfield, this would be solved by scientists.
Lisa’s fiancé was able to verbally talk into his wristwatch (1955)
9/11
PRedicted : 1997, Happenned : 2001 Horse meat was a secret ingredient (1994) A brochure on the episode reads, “$9 a day”, and behind it, the twin towers, resembling digit 11. This, of course, is seen as a forecast for the 9/11 tragedy.
The Simpsons saw this coming 19 years prior, in 1998. They joked that their movie studio was then a “division of Walt Disney Co.”
Whereas the “Year of the Smartwatch” was still 20 years away from happening, the Simpsons had unbelievably advanced tech - sometimes tech that’s never even been fully developed.
ENGLand's skyscraper; the shard Season __ Ep. __: lisa's wedding
Even before videoconferencing systems evolved in the 2000s, characters in the episode have exchanged conversation through video messaging. Interesting, isn’t it?
As absurd as it might sound, the writers included horse meat as a part of the secret ingredients’ list. Perhaps what is even more absurd is that it is a fact many of us were using equine-based burgers.
High-tech intercom looking like an ipod replica (1996)
Notice anything oddly similar, between the buildings in the background? Yes, the leftmost tall building on the first panel has been built with a similar shape, in reality, known as The Shard. Look familiar?
14
The list could go on and on and on, from autocorrect to baby translators to the three-eyed fish and even the covid-19. Whether it is just a mere coincidence - is a question of debate in the world of conspiracy theories. One must admit though, that some of the writers’ predictions are explainable, but others otherwise. Perhaps, the main reason was that the show combined several brilliant minds, amongst them Harvard and Berkeley graduates. Or perhaps, it was due to the “law of truly large numbers”, whereby with a large enough sample, any startling occurrence is apt to happen. However they made it, for whatever reason they predicted certain occurrences, “The Simpsons” still persist to be the longest-running scripted TV series in history.

MACARONS By: Ruth Abadi
DIRECTIONS
A macaron is an elegant cookie sandwich that is made with meringue, almond flour, and buttercream filling. It first appeared in Europe and originated way back in the middle ages. At the time, the macaron was a small sweet made from almond, egg white, and sugar, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. It was brought by Catherine de Medici to France in the 16th century from Italy.
It was produced in Venetian monasteries
1. To make the shell: in a bowl, combine powdered sugar, almond flour, and ½ teaspoon of salt in the bowl of the food processor. Process it at low speed until all the ingredients are finely processed (it is important to make sure it is extra fine). Next, sift the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl. 2. In a separate bowl, use an electric hand mixer to beat egg whites and the remaining ½ teaspoon of salt until soft peaks form. Add granulated sugar until it fully incorporated. Continue to beat until it forms stiff peaks. You can check if it is stiff enough by turning the bowl upside down. If nothing falls out, then the mixture is ready and it’s time to move to the next step!!

Continue to fold slowly until the batter falls into ribbons and you are able to make figure 8 while holding the spatula up. 5. Transfer the batter into a piping bag with a round tip. 6. Place 4 dots of the batter in each corner of a rimmed baking sheet, and place a piece of parchment paper over it, using the batter to help adhere the parchment to the baking sheet.
