After more than 2 years of no varsity basketball in Sentul, this year the team is back at it again, led by captain Aurelius Laksono, Head Coach Mr Christopher Soodsma, and Assistant Coach Mr Joseph Lardizabal, starting the season midOctober and their first game on November 3, 2022 The last game of the season sets for February 16, 2023. The season brought many ups and downs, both great and some not-so-great games It is the last season of 4 senior varsity players; Frederick Wenas, Steve Herryanto, Jeff Simanjuntak, and captain Aurelius Laksono, whose presence will be missed next season
This season was a great one the Varsity boys' record for this season was 13 wins and only 6 losses The boys were champions in one tournament they played in this season, the ACS open tournament, and also finished 3rd overall in the JAAC competition, the first boys' team to ever accomplish that in Sentul!! Overall, this season was a great one for the guys Every single player on the team gave their all, in practice and games, and the hard work paid off The team improved a lot this season, both mentally and physically The guys left it all out on the court!! That is all from the varsity boys this season. What a season it was!
In relation to the Varsity basketball season this year, Scoop has decided to interview one of SPH SC’s alumni who has just finished his final season as a basketball player at HannibalLaGrange University (HLGU). He goes by the name, Rivaldy Hartanto, known as Aldi. We asked him a few questions regarding his experience playing basketball overseas and more. So without further adieu here is the interview;
Transitioning from high school to college basketball in the states was difficult at first, because the commitment and responsibilities that you have now are way bigger It's like going to work as you get a scholarship to play basketball they expect you to be professional about it, get in the work done and be coachable. Not to mention youre expected to be in the gym outside of practice, like shooting hundreds of shots daily and lifting for a couple of hours a day. It requires dedication and passion, and most high school athletes do not have this There is a lot of adjustments that I made such as understanding basketball concepts that I have never heard before coming to the states It was difficult at first but as time passed by you're used to it and more familiar with it
How do you balance your school/uni life with your athletics as a student-athlete?
Balancing time is not actually that difficult if you can schedule your day prior and be committed to it, set up a time when your sole focus is schoolwork every single day for several hours and do not get distracted
How has basketball impacted you personally?
Basketball has impacted my life in many ways not only that I have a family here but I have bonded with many different people from different backgrounds It taught me a lot of things about life
What advice do you have for student athletes?
My advice to young student-athlete that want to play college basketball is that if you want it so badly go and get it, put in the effort, work in and night out, show your passion and dedication and you will be rewarded If you want to play in front of thousands work in front of nobody, and when you work hard somebody will notice And that is all for the interview with Aldi, if you are interested, some of his highlights can be found on his IG @rivaldiyohansen
8:57 P.M. Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, 8th of February, 2023, was the place and time LeBron Raymone James broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record, a record that was held for nearly 4 decades. The historic shot was a 15-foot “patented fadeaway shot” that he has perfected throughout his 20-year career in the NBA. After passing Kareem, LeBron currently has 38,390 points and counting. At the moment, he felt like he was the man of the arena and “sitting on top of the arena,” as he said. Becoming the scoring leader looks like an average day for LeBron, along with all the other accolades he has achieved in his career: 4x MVP, Finals champion & FMVP, 19x All-star, ROY (Rookie of the Year), 3x Olympic gold medalist, the list could go on and on.
At the beginning of the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron needed 36 points to pass Kareem. He didn’t even need a full game to do that, as he scored his 36th point of the game with just a few seconds left of the third quarter. Right after the shot was made, the game paused momentarily
The personal project is done in the final year of MYP (grade 10) where students will choose a topic they want to explore through learning a new skill and create a product from the things they have learned throughout their personal project journey. During the project, students will pursue a personal interest while applying the skills they have developed in their MYP years, the ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills. At the end of the process, students are required to finish three things: a product, report, and presentation, which is also the exhibition.
This year, on January 27, 2023, SPH Sentul City held a personal project exhibition. Every year, our school has a personal project exhibition for the 10th grade students to showcase what they did for their personal project to the entire school. Just by walking around the booths, you can already tell this year’s grade 10 is full of talent. From designing clothes to cooking food, there is never a limit to how creative our students can get. At the end of the day, awards were given to 3 students that had the best booth. And the winners were… Joanna, Yvonne, and Kayla. Congrats!

“Valorant”, pretty sure you’ve heard of it right? Well if you haven’t, putting it in layman’s terms, Valorant is an FPS (first-person shooter) video game that implements elements of strategy and mechanical skills, where there are 2 teams (each team consisting of 5 members) fighting for victory in an arena. Due to the game’s booming popularity, it has become a type of e-sport for quite a while now, where pro players compete in a tournament for the glory of a trophy The biggest tournament held by the official game developers is named “VCT” (valorant champions tour), where around 30 professional teams from different regions compete in a tournament to win a grand prize of $300,000.
That’s enough for the context, now we move on to the juice of this article At the moment of which I am writing this article, VCT 2023, which is held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, has already begun. The most anticipated teams from the NA region have developed new rosters and are ready to showcase their new team compositions. There are many teams out there that are powerful in strategy and skill, though out of 32 teams who are participating in VCT Sao Paulo, the renowned teams are Sentinels (N A), Paper Rex (APAC), Cloud 9 (N A), 100T (N A), FunPlus Phoenix (Chinese Team), NRG (N A), Liquid (EMEA), NAVI (EMEA), LOUD (S A), and Fnatic (EMEA) Where Sentinels became famous due to their accomplishment of winning the VCT Masters Reykjavik (2021) as an underdog team, and a similar case with Paper Rex, in which the team from Asia Pacific beat teams such as Sentinels, G2, and other strong teams from the regions of North America as well as Europe Just a side note, Paper Rex had 2 Indonesian players in their team Though it is a shame that teams such as G2, Vision Strikers, Team EnVyUs, etc will not be competing in VCT Sao Paulo With that being said, the 1st match of VCT Sao Paulo starts February 13 at 9 a m PST, with a match between KOI (EMEA) vs NRG (N.A). Followed by a match between Detonation FocusMe vs Giants at 12pm PST, and Gen.G vs LOUD at 3 pm PST. Here the people are most anticipating a match between Gen.G and LOUD, where Gen G, a renowned European team, gets to battle against the “VCT Copenhagen champions,” team LOUD
VCT Sao Paulo begins February 13 and until March 4, when every day during that time period a clash between professional teams will happen for the fight for the CHAMPIONS title

Ever heard of League? I’m sure by now you guys already know what League of Legends is, it is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) game developed by Riot Games, the same company that made VALORANT. As usual, this MOBA game requires specific team coordination and a balanced macro and micro playstyle during games. It has been going on for a while and has developed a really big fan base across the world, and as a new year starts, a new season starts as well as new competitive League tournaments. Teams in different regions match against each other to secure a spot in the top 3, marking their places in the most challenging stages in League history. Some fan-favorite teams to mention are G2, SKT1, DAMWON, GEN G, FNATIC, and many other teams.
As of right now, teams are trying their best to secure spots in the World finals which will happen in the months. With professional League gamers switching their teams in 2023, we don't know who will secure the spots in the world. Double Lift, one of the most respected ADCs (Attack Damage Carry) in League history, has made a comeback to join the LCS with 100T, as well as Rekkles, coming back to FNATIC to secure a spot in LEC. One of my favorite teams, SKT1, made a promising comeback after their loss in the last Worlds competition with Faker as strong as ever in the mid lane. Several teams such as MAD LIONS have made their winning streaks feared among the LEC rosters, winning over G2 as well as FNATIC during their games. Although no information regarding when Worlds will happen, it is known that it will happen in South Korea, putting immense pressure on SKT1 for their comeback in Worlds. Will Faker get his 4th Worlds win after 7 years since his 3rd streak win? Or will other teams mark their places as the champions this year?
