Australian Trip 2023 An Australian trip with your friends? Not to mention, getting an opportunity to become an exchange student in Australia?

Wonderful, I’d say!

As quoted by Joanna in 11.2, "I'm incredibly excited about this trip and eagerly looking forward to every aspect of it – especially the fact that we will be traveling with Pak Okem! It basically means we will get to spend 10 days bothering him non-stop. How thrilling!"

I concur, Joanna, wholeheartedly. As I write this, our students are currently there, and Joanna believes the trip is living up to her expectations, filled with memorable and exhilarating experiences.

In a nutshell, from October 8 to October 19, a group of our 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade students participated in this short yet thrilling program, brimming with various activities. This program offered opportunities to immerse themselves in Australian culture, explore university campuses, and meet new people.

Now, here comes the most exhilarating part: the student exchange program and staying with host families! This exchange program promises to be the highlight of their trip, an experience etched in their high school memories forever.

Students visited and stayed with their respective host families for several days, immersing themselves further in Australian culture. Last year, some Chairo students became students at our school, so it was our turn to return the favor!

To kick things off, during the first four days of their journey, they toured iconic places like Library Victoria, Rochford Wines, Emerald Lake, the Great Ocean Road, and many more culturally significant sites.

Additionally, they had the chance to explore the University of Melbourne as part of their itinerary. I can't help but feel a bit of FOMO for not joining this trip myself.

To our Australian exchange students, we hope you enjoyed every moment of your trip! And to those who missed out this time, fear not – you'll have your chance in the next two years!

SPHSC ART CLUB! As some of you have already read the email, and if you haven’t then let me catch you up, SPH Sentul City has a brand new club! This club that so many students are eager to join is an art club planning to provide students with opportunities to express themselves creatively on top of developing their artistic skills. The club hopes that through the members’ artworks, the entire school can develop an appreciation for visual arts. SPHSC Art Club is where anyone interested in visual art can create art together and be a part of each other’s artistic journey.

Students can explore all forms of art and show off their own collaborative artwork to the entire school.

This club is open to anyone in the school, from grades 6-12, girl or boy. As long as you are interested in arts this is the club for you. The club will have 2 interesting and fun events for its members every quarter. The first event is an individual artwork based on a theme chosen by the members. With the theme that they chose, the students (could be you!) have the ability to create whatever they want as long as it relates to the theme. The second event is a collaborative artwork with a theme voted by all the members.

Additionally, selected individual and collaborative artworks will be displayed at the end-of-school-year art exhibition for everyone to see!

Youth camp has once again arrived, much like a delightful surprise, catching everyone off guard with its arrival! The atmosphere is electric, pulsating with unbridled enthusiasm as students from all walks of life immerse themselves in the festivities. From the dynamic and spirited chapel bands that never fail to uplift spirits to the frenzy of pre-ordering exclusive camp packages, not to mention the mesmerizing bonfires that illuminate the night skies, this year's camp promises nothing short of a whirlwind of fun and the creation of lifelong memories.

To kick things off in style, we've had the privilege of connecting with some of the most enthusiastic participants at Youth Camp. These young individuals are not just soaking in the camp goodness; they are diving headfirst into the euphoria of it all! Quoting Grace from 9.1, she shared her insights, "While the chapel sessions seemed to stretch on, the house team games were an absolute blast!" This year's competition witnessed a thrilling showdown, with the Orcas reclaiming the top spot, leaving Arafura and Banda in their wake. However, Celebes, valiant though their efforts were, will have to settle for yet another 'honorable mention.' Kudos to all participants for their fantastic efforts and sportsmanship, making the competition an unforgettable part of the camp experience!

According to Nadya, from 11.2, she summed up her camp experience as quite tiring, especially when it came to the challenges of the third day. However, her unwavering emphasis remained on the overall positivity and enjoyment she derived from the camp. It's a testament to the resilience and camaraderie that define the spirit of youth camp. Indeed, Youth Camp 2023 has been nothing short of mesmerizing for all those in attendance. As we bid adieu to this year's camp, the memories and bonds formed will undoubtedly linger, serving as a beacon of anticipation for next year's gathering. Until then, see you on Youth Camp's grounds once more, where the magic and excitement are sure to continue!

So, as the bonfires continue to flicker and the final notes of the chapel bands echo through the night, we can't help but look forward to the promise of yet another unforgettable Youth Camp experience in the future.

PERSONAL PROJECT Personal projects can be a double-edged sword, capable of either becoming a fulfilling feat or a burdensome challenge for all involved. As observed by Janice 10.1, navigating the complexities of personal projects can be daunting. The hunt for resources, the application of research forms, and the mastery of the TRAAP framework are just a few of the hurdles students may encounter along the way.

Even though personal projects are often due a considerable time in the future, the journey must commence in the present. This early start can either appear as an imposing hurdle or a brilliant opportunity to embark on a personal and academic adventure. Personal projects themselves come in a wide array of forms and topics, spanning from creative endeavors to scientific inquiries, each reflecting the unique interests and passions of the students.

In the context of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, personal projects follow a structured procedure. However, at the heart of this procedure lies the essential element of personal passion. These projects are not just academic exercises but a chance for students to delve into subjects they are genuinely enthusiastic about. It's an opportunity for students to harness their motoric and intrapersonal skills, forging a path towards personal and academic growth.

Ultimately, personal projects are about igniting the natural spark within each student. They represent a journey of self-discovery, a chance to develop valuable skills, and a stepping stone toward a brighter future. JAAC VOLLEYBALL RECAP

The JAAC Volleyball season has come to an end!

Recently, our SMA Boys Volleyball team competed in the JAAC Finals at SPH Lippo Village.

They entered the championships after a 2-1 set victory against British School Jakarta, bringing their season record at 6-3 in 4th place.

In the semifinal match, they competed against Global Jaya, who had maintained a perfect record throughout the season, casting a formidable shadow upon our volleyball team. In the first set, our team took an early lead. The second set was a nail-biter, with our team holding a 23-20 lead, needing just two more points to secure their victory. Unfortunately, Global Jaya executed their final plays brilliantly, resulting in a 23-25 win for them. With the match tied, tension hung in the air. Our team knew they needed to stay focused.

Our team's captain, Heizel, offered some words of encouragement. He emphasized the importance of supporting each other, regardless of making good or bad plays. Once the third set commenced, our Boys team took the lead at 21-18. They only needed four more points to regain victory. Alas, they couldn't execute, and Global Jaya took the third set after winning seven consecutive points. The team was disheartened, realizing that their leading overconfidence had cost them.

Heading into the fourth set down 1-2, the team needed a miraculous boost to their morale. As the set began, it was evident that they lacked energy and communication; cheers from their supporters were evident. Global Jaya scored in succession, making triumph seem lost. In the end, Global Jaya won the match 3-1, with a considerable lead in the set.

After the game, the team gathered to reflect on their mistakes and the season as a whole.

Coach Mr. Adrian praised the team's undeniable progress and expressed his pride for their efforts, though the results weren't as they had hoped.

He urged the team to keep improving and highlighted the importance of the juniors continuing the legacy of their seniors, with the hope of raising the "champions" banner next year.

PISCOK CANTEEN SPH

Don't you just hate it when class is over and as you go on your merry way to the canteen, a realization hits you: you don't know what you want to eat.

We've all been there – staring blankly at the selection of snacks, trying to decide what's worth our hard-earned lunch money. Well, fear not, because here at SCOOP we’ve got the inside scoop into the art of choosing canteen snacks. So, what are you waiting for? Grab a seat, and let’s explore the tasty world of canteen fare together!

As most of you already know, our school boasts not one, but two canteens that serve a wide variety of delectable snacks and beverages. These canteens have their own unique characteristics, making it extremely difficult to choose one over the other. But, there are some food items that they both sell, for example, piscok. In this article, we’ll be answering the question everyone is asking: which canteen’s piscok is the better piscok? By carefully assessing which canteen’s piscok is worth more bang for your buck, we hope that we can help you make an informed decision on where to satisfy your cravings To determine the quality of a piscok, I’ve decided to not only assess the taste, but also the price and the ratio of the price to the amount of piscok that you’re actually getting. As you can see from this picture, canteen #1’s piscoks are bigger compared to canteen #2. But, we have to take into account that one piece costs about 2500 rupiah in canteen #1, and in canteen #2 it costs 5000 rupiah for one cup, containing four pieces, which means that each piscok in canteen #2 is approximately 1250 rupiah. So when it comes down to price alone, canteen #2 is the more economical option. However, this price tag doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re getting more piscok for the amount you’re paying, which leads us to the next segment.

For this segment, I took it upon myself to purchase and measure the piscok from both canteen #1 and canteen #2. The piscok from canteen #1 is more or less 12cm and the piscok from canteen #2 is about 9cm. This means that based on length alone, a piscok from canteen #1 contains an estimated 33,33% more piscok.

Now since we know the size and price of a piscok from each canteen, it’s now possible for us to truly determine which piscok is the most economical option. Let's break it down: Canteen #1: Cost per centimeter = Price per piscok / Size of each piscok Cost per centimeter = 2500 rupiah / 12 cm ≈ 208.33 rupiah per cm Canteen #2: Cost per centimeter = Price per piscok / Size of each piscok Cost per centimeter = 1250 rupiah / 9 cm ≈ 138.89 rupiah per cm Now that we have the cost per centimeter for each canteen, we can see that canteen #2 is indeed the cheaper option in terms of price per centimeter of piscok. Therefore, based on the provided data, canteen #2 is the more economical option when considering both price and the amount of piscok you're getting for your money.

Last but not least, it’s time to determine which piscok is the better tasting one. For this final segment, I decided to not only conduct a little experiment by asking around to determine which piscok is better tasting, but also try them myself. As for the results of my experiment, it became clear that, despite the higher price, most people favored canteen 1’s piscok.

Although there were a few outliers, for instance, one student stated that both piscoks were “kinda dry and mid.” But anyway, after tasting both piscoks for myself, I’d have to say I agree that canteen #1’s piscok does taste better as it has a better chocolate to banana ratio and is also fried more evenly.

But at the end of the day, it's a matter of balancing cost and taste. If you're primarily concerned with getting the most piscok for your money, canteen #2 may seem like the economical choice. But if you're willing to spend a bit more for a better-tasting piscok, canteen #1 is the way to go. Ultimately, the best piscok comes down to your personal preferences and priorities, so choose wisely and savor every delicious bite!

How to manage your time as an IB student.

A never-ending pile of work that’s ever-increasing, a good night’s sleep getting further from your grasp, and grudges against your teachers becoming extremely irritating. That pretty much sums up the life of an average IB student. But fear not, having good time management can help you sort out a lot of your problems in school and your personal life. Time management is all about how you’re planning to efficiently use and deliberately control your time to maximize productivity. With good time management, you can get more work done in less time which leads to less stress and better work quality.

The first step to having good time management is to know what you’re spending your time on. Figure out what you are wasting your time on and what you spend the most time doing. If both of these are scrolling through social media or other activities unrelated to school at all, then it would be best to make a daily schedule and follow that every day. Have realistic timelines in the schedule, don't overestimate yourself with how much work you can get done, and above all, give yourself breaks. Next, create a to-do list to prioritize all of your tasks. The workload can get so big that you might forget some or don't even know where to start working. That’s why you should list them down and sort them according to importance and urgency. Lastly, get rid of any distractions you have that can hinder your productivity. If you know you will go to sites or apps you’re not supposed to, close them all and keep only the ones you’re working on. Keep your phone out of your sight if the urge to open Instagram or TikTok is tempting.

Ultimately, there is no ‘one way’ to suddenly make your day full of free time or finish your work on time, it’s all about whether you have the willingness to change or not. If you’re not aware of your current situation of not having enough time to finish every task, then life will go on with you still unable to manage time properly. Taking that first step to improve your time management comes with advantages such as a good work-life balance. With more time saved during your day, you have more time to accomplish leisure activities.

School & Sleep As IB students, we may often make the mistake of overlooking sleep as we attempt to thrive in our curriculum, participate in extracurricular activities, and grow personally. However, we must understand that sleep is not a luxury but a necessity for all of us, as it is an integral part of achieving our academic goals.

Why sleep?

IB students face a challenging academic path that requires strong cognitive capabilities, efficient problemsolving capabilities, and excellent memory retention.

According to research, sleep is critical in achieving certain cognitive processes. During deep sleep, our brains consolidate and organize knowledge from the day, allowing for better retention and recall. Without enough sleep, our ability to focus, study, and do well in school suffers.

enough sleep should be something simple too, right? However, for many of us stress becomes a frequent companion on our academic journey, dramatically altering our sleep patterns, and causing even more stress. The stress of courses, assignments, and tests can cause insomnia. To address this, stress management practices such as mindfulness and efficient time management are essential, since they can greatly enhance sleep quality. For the most optimal performance, it’s recommended that you get 7-9 hours of sleep per night. It is critical to have a consistent sleep routine that corresponds to your body's natural cycle. Creating a calming evening routine, limiting screen time before sleep, resting in a dark, quiet, and cold location, and avoiding coffee and heavy meals close to night are all ways to improve sleep quality.
