It has a superstar-filled roster with Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Lamarcus Aldridge, James Harden, and Blake Griffin. Not only do they have the big 5, but they also have DeAndre Jordan as a second center and Spencer Dinwiddie as a guard as well. Not to mention, Joe Harris and Jeff Green are on their bench as well. This new team is stacked!!! This is a championship-contending team. Can they beat LeBron James and his team, the Lakers?. CAN THE NEW LOS ANGELES LAKERS TEAM CLAIM THE NBA THRONE AGAIN?

Like the Brooklyn Nets in the East, the Los Angeles Lakers in the West are also a very dangerous and stacked team! They were the NBA champions last season and this year, they are the favourites to win it all. Led by arguably the best player in the league, Lebron James, the Lakers are a top-heavy team.

With players like Anthony Davis, Dennis Schroder, Montrezl Harrell, Andre Drummond, Kyle Kuzma, Markieff Morris, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marc Gasol, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Alex Caruso, the Los Angeles Lakers have a good mix between offence and defence. They have star players on the team, while also having good supporting players. This team is currently the 4th best team in the Western Conference with a record of 30 wins and 17 losses (in early April). Even though the 2 best players of the team, Lebron and Davis, are injured right now, they will be fully healthy during the playoffs —good news for the Lakers! So, how will they stand up against the superteam, Brooklyn Nets? Will they defend themselves as champions or lose to a team from the East? We’ll have to wait and see!

Grammys, or known as “Grammy Awards”, is an award ceremony held to give awards and appreciation to various artists in various categories in the music industry. It is held by the National academy of Recording Arts. It is one of the most well-known awards shows in the world other than the Billboard awards. Winning an award at the Grammys has been many artists' dream, but after knowing its reality, several artists have begun to dislike the award show itself. In the latest grammy of 2021, a shocking turn of events happened that made many people turn their backs against the Grammy awards.

Back on November 24, the super-popular K-pop group BTS was announced as nominated under the category “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance”, which shook the BTS army as it is known to be BTS’ dream to win the grammy. Many fans were so excited to see their performance and have their idol win a grammy award. It may seem simple, but their nomination alone set up a world record of the first South Korean band to have ever been nominated. However, on the night everyone had been waiting for, it ended with the award being given to “Rain On Me" by Ariana Grande and Lady Gaga”. No hate given against the song or the artist as they are equally respected, but fans just think it was unfair and that BTS should’ve won the award (based on sales and votes). BTS tried their best to not show any emotions, they simply expressed their desire to be with the armies right now knowing they are really disappointed. Still, fans somehow made #scammys trending on Twitter and other social media platforms after the awards night.

It was not only the BTS fans that had a hard time with the Grammys, but some other artists have publicly announced turning their back on Grammys. Some of these include Zayn Malik, The Weekend, Eminem, Justin Beiber, and many more. Back on March 10, Zayn tweeted and said “Unless you shake hands and send gifts, there’s no nomination consideration”, as if saying there is favoritism during the process before the D-day. Also trending, back in 2018, what Eminem once said in an interview video saying that he will never go back to the Grammys even if invited. Some artists like Justin Bieber had a little different situation. This year his album “Changes” was nominated as a pop album and that’s when Justin Bieber took things over to Instagram saying, “To the Grammys, I am flattered to be acknowledged and appreciated for my artistry. I am very meticulous and intentional about my music. With that being said I set out to make an R&B album,” which states his “Changes” album is an R&B album. It is a big award ceremony and is an honor to attend, especially when some other fellow artists are always happy to be nominated for.

America is known for its rising culture and diversity. It has several small well-known Chinatowns scattered all around the country. Back in late February, around San Francisco, an attack towards at least 18 Asians happened. Another occurrence of violence was also a shooting that happened around Atlanta, causing 6 women to be murdered on that day. Not just this, but many tragedies have happened against Asians in America causing activists and many other people around the world to start a movement.

A national system was created to track down discrimination and violence especially against Asians. The hashtag #StopAsianHate has become a trending hashtag, especially in the movement. Some well-known celebrities have also spoken up about this movement on their social media accounts including Kylie Jenner, John Legend, Barack Obama, Gemma Chan, BTS, and many more. Promising Better Protection for Women

#METOO MOVEMENT

The #MeToo movement was an online social media movement that started in 2006 by Tarana Burke in order to protect women from sexual harrassment, assault, and rape. The movement gained popularity in 2017, when Hollywood actress Alyssa Milano tweeted about her experience with sexual violence in which the post stated “If you’ve been sexually harassed or assaulted write ‘me too’ as a reply to this tweet”. In 2020, an organization named Human Rights Watch hosted an event to push the #MeToo movement forward. This virtual event is meant to fight against gender - based violence at work, society, and government.

Other organizations taking part in this are ABAAD, the Global 16 Days Campaign, the International Domestic Workers Federation (IDWF), and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

In between 2020 and 2021, the #MeToo movement started gaining a lot more popularity in platforms such as Instagram and Twitter in order to raise awareness for sexual violence against women and other types of gender-based discrimination. Another way that awareness of sexual violence was spread was when live-streamers recorded themselves while they were out in the streets. The videos show creepy men touching the women inappropriately. Remembering the

‘I just nearly got killed for getting a soda’, said Ryan Borowski, a customer at King Soopers.

Ten people were killed after a gunman stormed into a King Soopers supermarket, including a police officer and a store manager. At around 2:30 p.m. MT, police officers were called to a King Soopers store after someone claimed that they heard the sound of a gunshot. The suspect walked up to an elderly man who was in the parking lot, stood over him and shot him multiple times. Aside from that, he has also shot someone who was in a vehicle--the person was then later found dead. Officer Eric Talley, 51, who was one of the first police officers that responded to the scene, was shot in the head and was later confirmed to be dead. The employees of the supermarket led everyone else to a place where they could hide while the police took care of the suspect. Maggie Montoya, one of the store customers, claimed that she heard the victim surrender as she was hiding under a desk in the store’s pharmacy.

As the shooter removed all his clothing, he told the police “I surrender. I’m naked”.

The suspect was then taken to custody at 3:28 p.m. The suspect showed no indication of drug or alcohol use. A witness claimed that they once saw police officers moving around on top of the store’s roof, but the reason was unclear. The other victims include, Rikki Olds, 25, who was the store’s manager; Denny Stong, 20; Neven Stansic, 23; Tralona Bartkowiak, 49; Suzanne Fountain, 59; Teri Leiker, 51; Kevin Mahoney, 61; Lynn Murray, 62; and Jody Waters, 65.

The suspect of this case is Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, 21, who used a Ruger AR-556 Pistol on site. He was sent to jail after his injuries were treated for 10 cases of first degree murder. Myanmar coup d’etat explained: a brief overview

BY GINO Since 1 February 2021, the country of Myanmar had been in a state of peril. The military had seized power in the government, resulting in an estimate of 400 deaths as of 29 March 2021.

To investigate what has truly happened, let us first look at the history of Myanmar.

Myanmar, or back then called Burma, had gained independence from the British in 1948, where democracy was installed. For about fourteen years Myanmar had a democracy before a military coup took over in 1962 and changed the government. One of the most radical changes in Myanmar in the new government was the installment of socialism policies, where it had a one-party state, banning independent newspaper organizations, and also became isolationist in its interaction with the world’s leading countries, with the intent of reducing their influence over Myanmar. These new policies that ruled over Myanmar for 37 years (as the constitution was implemented in 1974), became the framework for the Myanmar coup today.

With two main revolutions happening in 1988 and 2007, this saw changes in further control of the military towards the Burmese people. In 2008, a new constitution was also implemented in Myanmar, which is still in effect to this day. However, in 2011, the military party-state had disbanded and in doing so, created a supposed civilian-led government. This government was suspected to be far from being a democratic country, as a former leader of the one-party state was appointed as the new president of reformed Myanmar. Furthermore, the new government cabinet in 2011 only had four civilians in thirty seat offices, which further implies the military still having a large control over politics.

What comes into the picture now is the world-renowned Aung San Suu Kyi, who was a prominent democracy fighter in Myanmar since the 1988 protests. She is known for her struggle of fifteen years of house detention for speaking out against the government, being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize because of fighting for democracy and also being suspected of not bringing much attention to the 2017 Rohingya crisis. She has also been the State Counsellor of Myanmar since 2015 when her party the National League of Democracy (NLD) had won in the elections.

The problem arises in 2020, where new elections take place in Myanmar. The military still has a large influence over governmental affairs despite the change of a civilian-led government, with such examples having 25% of seats in parliament being reserved for the military. When the NLD had won by a landslide in 2020 against the military party, the military leaders accused fraud of the election results and staged a coup over the government. The military put many party leaders under arrest and installed Senior General Min Aung Hlaing as the reason for the “state emergency”. The army was able to do this because of the Burmese constitution saying that the military is allowed to take control if an event causes, “disintegration of the Union, disintegration of national solidarity, and loss of sovereign power”.

This coup has prompted many Burmese people to riot against the government, causing the deaths of many. One case shows a five-year-old boy who was shot, which shows children also being involved in the massive coup as well. The coup has also been met with a lot of international condemnation.

As of the time of writing, the coup in Myanmar has not ended yet. The new military government may have a chance of ruling the government indefinitely. Let us hope for the safety of all the Burmese people and pray so as to have them gain a peaceful agreement. Let us also give light to the situation so as to further spread awareness of the atrocities happening in Myanmar, so that we can also give solidarity to all the people in Myanmar who are suffering because of the conflict.

By Kendrix No one knows if they are infected by the Covid-19 virus. Initially, the only way to know is to take the Covid-19 PCR test or if symptoms start to appear within two weeks after the virus has entered their body. However, dogs around the world have been trained to detect Covid-19 from people. The dogs were given samples of Covid-19, capable enough to identify patterns from people they if they thenhave are the same smell. The detection from these dogs has become very effective that scientists have been viewing this as promising for the pandemic we are all going through now. According to BMC Infectious Diseases, the accuracy for dogs detecting Covid-19 are around 94%. Medical Universities around the world have been training dogs to be put in important locations such as the airport. Dogs will sniff objects that belong to people around the world to detect if it has the Covid-19 virus on it. This can be a solution for people who are not able to afford the Covid-19 PCR test, as its accuracy has been very stunning.

The Tragic Train crash in

Eastern Taiwan

In the eastern part of Taiwan (formally the Republic of China), a train coming from New Taipei City had derailed in the north of Hualien County on the 3rd of April 2021. The train carried 496 people on the train, in a supposed accident caused by a crane truck driver whose truck was parked near the rails, forgetting to enable the emergency brake. This caused the train to derail in the Qingshui Tunnel.

Let us pray for the families and individuals affected by this incident.

The train accident killed 50 people and left 186 injured. The government promised to compensate nearly $185,500 USD for each family who had a family member killed, while those who were injured received $91,000 or $14,000 USD in compensation. Furthermore, the truck driver who had allegedly caused the whole accident had been bailed out of the District Court and apologized for the incident. Meanwhile, many prosecutors are trying to charge the driver of negligent homicide or neglectful murder (which does not have to be intentional).

The Prime Minister and Premier of Taiwan both visited Hualien, with the Prime Minister promising to investigate the incident thoroughly. Meanwhile, the Premier had visited the hospitals of those affected and apologized on behalf of the Taiwanese government.

One of the World’s Most Important Trading Route,

THE SUEZ CANAL

The Suez Canal has been an important route for hundreds of years. It was used by many empires, such as the Roman Empire, to extend their territories and trade with great civilizations like Egypt.

The British, French and other European empires utilized the Suez Canal to colonize Africa and other countries with the purpose to their economy. There were times in history when the Suez Canal was neglected, such as during the peak of the Byzantine Empire and the mid 20th Century when Israel was at war with countries in the middle east and Egypt.

It is the location of the route that makes it significant for trading. The Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea (Europe and Africa) with the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean (Indonesia, India, East of Africa, Thailand, Australia, and many more). Different areas of the canal are controlled by different countries such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Israel, and others. According to CNN, there are no other alternatives that connect Africa and Europe with the countries in Asia, which is why it is beneficial for trade.

However, on the 24th March of 2021, a large container ship blocked the whole Suez Canal, preventing ships for trade to enter their destination on time. According to the South China Morning Post, around 19,000 ships passed through the canal in 2020. The ships that transport supplies such as oil, electric items, and toys had to wait for a couple of days until the ship was removed from the Canal.

On the 29th of March, the ship was finally removed from the Canal by other ships tugging the ship in the right direction. Workers from Egypt helped resolve the issue by digging the ground that holds the ship in its place. Containers from the cargo ship had to be removed to lighten the ship and to maneuver more effectively. Some cargo ships waited until the ship was removed while some others were willing to take the long way to reach Europe by going around Africa. After the ship was removed, the crew members mentioned that there were engine problems which were how the ship lost its direction.
