HSSC CG GIIN ND DO O SSPPH SENTUL CITY. SENTULCITY.CO.ID That is why, for a myriad of reasons, SPH Sentul’s GINDO is asking the operators of the city of Sentul to designate land for a noncommercialized park for use forever by the citizens of the city. This would be different than the Sentul Nirwana lake which has become inundated with businesses, restaurants and cafes. The group of seven students is asking the city to consider the hill across from Giant.

The advantage to the city is that this land is more expensive to develop and less likely to draw many bidders. Additionally, it is the first thing motorists notice when they enter Sentul, thereby preserving the “green brand” as well as providing all the above-mentioned benefits to the city and its citizens. Similar in style to the award-winning Fort Canning park in Singapore, this hillside retreat could help keep Sentul from becoming another big-city suburb. And you can help! Sign the petition to let the operators of Sentul City know that you, too, would like the city to designate this land as a forever-green space.

JACKIE ROBINSON:

The Man Who Broke the Color Barrier in American Baseball BY GINO Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born in January 31, 1919. During his youth, he excelled in four sports, namely American football, basketball, track, and baseball. When he finished school, he entered UCLA (University of California) where he also was excellent in all four sports; both in his youth and in his university days, he won awards for his outstanding ability in sports. Unfortunately for Robinson, he was forced to exit UCLA because of the lack of financial support. He later joined an American football semi-professional team in Hawaii called the Honolulu Bears, but later joined the military for the US Army because of the occurrence of World War II.

After the incident in the army, Robinson went to play baseball for the Kansas City Monarchs in the “Negro Leagues”, as in that time, the baseball league was separated between an African-American league and a White league. But it soon changed where the president of the Brooklyn Dodgers, Branch Rickey, approached Robinson to play for the club Brooklyn Dodgers (now Los Angeles Dodgers) in the “White league” or National League. Robinson accepted the contract and played for the minor/reserve team of Brooklyn Dodgers, the Montreal Royals, becoming the first AfricanAmerican player in the National League/Minor Leagues since 1889.

Mind you, during this time, there was a segregation between “white skin” and “colored skin”, where in most cases in the public, the “colored” people were treated unfairly and the “white” people had an advantage. In Robinson’s case during his time in the army, he was kicked out of the army after two years because of segregation. He refused to move to the back-seats in a segregated bus. Because of this, he was arrested, and it all happened just because of his skin color.

His time in the Montreal Royals wasn’t easy as a youth player, nor his entire baseball career. He was rejected by his teammates, mocked by the fans and opposing fans, and received threats to him and his family. But through all this, Robinson vowed to never fight back. He made an impressive feat with the Royals, and his achievements led him to be promoted to the first team, the Brooklyn Dodgers.

His debut for the Dodgers came on April 15, 1947, against a team called the Boston Braves (now Atlanta Braves). Still, the harassment continued, most memorably in his game against the Philadelphia Phillies, where both the opposing team and his team shouted profane words against him. The manager though, defended Robinson, telling the team members that he would trade them instead. Robinson played for the Dodgers for a decade, where he won the Brooklyn Dodgers multiple National League East pennants, outstanding records, winning the World Series (basically the mainÂ

league title/cup), and ultimately proving that all people are created equal through his achievements. He ended his career in a trade with the New York Giants (now San Francisco Giants), in which he did not play a game for the team and then retiring in January 5, 1957. He went to be an activist after his retirement, becoming the role model for African-American athletes and fighting for civil rights. He died in 1972, because of heart and diabetes complications. This made his wife to create the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which helps people, especially the young and the minority, in mentoring and scholarships. Jackie Robinson’s legacy will be remembered as a voice, that proves that all women and men are created equal, no matter of race, culture, or ethnicity.

THE PERKS OF BEING HOST 18th Asian Games BY KIREYNA AURELIA SANTOSO Recently a hot trending topic on social media and a subject of interest among the dinner table, the 2018 Asian Games was an event that gave us pride and international recognition. With the world watching, our people have long prepared and anticipated the Games; banners and advertisements air everywhere, to invite us to help make it a success.

However, behind all the extravagance of the event, being host means that our government had to spend trillions for the sake of it all. It may seem, in the short term - that in terms of the economy, positive outcomes are lacking. On the contrary, it actually does bring numerous perks, and not just economically:

Initiated by an epic opening event and concluded with spectacular performances for the closing ceremony, the people of Indonesia were given the chance to bring out their creativity to the stage. It served as a testament to the remarkable potential of our people and the ongoing advancement of our developing country is evident in the incredible vibe each performance upholds. Above all, it proved to both the global and internal community, of how unified we are; a vast country with 17,000 islands, varied historical ethnicities and cultural identities; yet united we stand. Our diversities do not divide us, it strengthens our bond.

Undoubtedly, the success of the Asian Games would earn Indonesia yet a further stance in global recognition; of its people, its beauty, its diversity, its growth and development, and of its infrastructure and transport systems.

International Image and Reputation

Construction and Infrastructure Since people from over 40 countries comprising of athletes, coaches, and supporting audiences came, the competition venues, facilities, and modes of transportation had improved to an international standard to provide effective access from place to place. Not only were these enjoyed by the participants during the Games, citizens and

residents could enjoy these commute systems and renovated infrastructures as a part of their daily lives too, now that the Games is over.

Unified the Country The collaboration between people of different generations and different backgrounds brought about prominent values such as solidarity and mutual respect. North Korea and South Korea, for example, joint teams for the Games, volunteers get to work and build networks with each other, families and friends streamed competitions online and took time to watch together, prime ministers and country leaders get to meet and enjoy the Games - and surely, nobody could ever forget this heartwarming moment:

Tourism and Economy Foreign visitors who participated have experienced Indonesian culture and land. Some even visited other areas of Indonesia besides Jakarta and Palembang. This means that over the archipelago, the prospect of Indonesia’s tourism rates to increase is very likely. Boosting the country’s tourism industry will massively impact the Indonesian economy as well; as it introduces visitors to the unique cultures and compelling natural beauties of Indonesia.

Business Opportunities and Investments Since many seminars or conventions have been held around Jakarta and Palembang during the Asian Games, local people have had the chance to showcase their creativity and creations. This might lead to possible investments and business collaborations with foreign investors or entrepreneurs.

More Economic Benefits Heightening the incomes of the lower and middle classes; throughout the Asian Games, salesmen, hotel businesses, and restaurants will be flooded with consumers from local and foreign tourists.

Home Crowd One of the main reasons why Indonesian athletes were able to win 31 gold, 24 silver, and 43 bronze medals is that the athletes had local support from families and friends who cheered for them. Heighten the Interest of Sports and Exercising: It is no secret that the interest in sports in Indonesia is still quite low when compared to other countries of the world, which is why the Asian Games can inject enthusiasm for the Indonesian people in the future, for all; young and old alike.

Heighten the Interest of Sports and Exercising It is no secret that the interest in sports in Indonesia is still quite low when compared to other countries of the world, which is why the Asian Games can inject enthusiasm for the Indonesian people in the future, for all; young and old alike.

The Boost in Morale and Nationalism Hosting the Asian Games created a space to unify the country by bringing people from the various islands together to strengthen the spirit of the Games, leading it to great success. Hosting the second largest sporting events after the Olympics boosted our national pride and opened our perspective to such success the Indonesian population could yield. Furthermore, those of us who were usually less concerned about nationalism, instead are busy supporting Indonesian athletes who compete, because we feel proud if our athletes win. We are accustomed to seeing differences in ethnicity, race and religion, but through hosting the Asian Games, we only have one focus, Indonesia.

WHAT'S HOT

SCOOP TV BY ANDREW HARIYANTO

a little message from the team

So far, the only content we have on ScoopTV’s YouTube page is about weekly announcements. However, we have big plans for this branch of Scoop. Our ultimate goal

Since the recent release of Scoop’s video segment, Scoop has been involved with the day-to-day lives of students and staff in the SPH Sentul City community more than ever. ScoopTV, which is what we will be calling it for the mean time (until someone comes up with a better name), provides a way for the school news to share the happenings of the school on a weekly basis. With ScoopTV’s recent success, we would like to shed some light on what we as members of ScoopTV want to accomplish in the following months to come.

for ScoopTV is to be able to upload a video every day of the week. Each day will have a certain type of video. For example, Mondays will be the weekly announcements; Tuesdays will have movie review videos; Wednesdays will be the investigations/theories videos; Thursdays will be the pranking videos; and so on and so forth. With that as our goal, we will strive to provide quality content for the student body and staff members to enjoy and to be entertained. The process of succeeding will be gradual, but slow and steady wins the race.

SCOOPTV "bringing you the latest SCOOP on TV!" As members of ScoopTV, we will highly appreciate your support and critiques in order to show the content you all crave for. We promise to provide you with the best content that we can create as you, the school community, are our topmost priority! Being labelled as one of the most well-known high society figures of the nation, there is yet to be a verdict on what his penalty will be. Drug dealers can face death penalties but with small sizing of drug consumption, the penalties may range from a few years spent in prison to solely rehabilitation.

Personally disliking Richard’s lavish habits, it wasn’t too surprising to hear of his arrest. With all things considered, let us see how his future will unfold…
