KLAY THOMPSON ! Suffers Season Ending Injury !

The National Basketball Association (NBA) is one of the biggest sports industries in the world. There are 30 teams in total that participated in this competitive league, including the famed, Golden State Warriors. Despite entering the finals for 4 years in a row since 2015, the Warriors suffered a major loss this season. Klay Thompson, their key player and known as one of the deadliest shooters in the NBA, got injured and unable to play. Klay holds the league's record for most three-pointers made in a game, with a whopping 14 three-pointers made in one game. But sadly, after recovering from his injury after 2019’s final, he was injured again right before this year's season began. Due to tearing his Achilles during practice, he is set to miss the 2020-2021 season. An Achilles tear is one of the most devastating injuries that an athlete can ever experience. Some of the NBA players that have had this injury are Derrick Rose, Baron Davis, Rajon Rondo and many more. Klay is set to return next season after fully recovering. For now, the Warriors will have to count on Kelly Oubre Jr, who they have acquired via trading to fill the shoes of Klay Thompson.

What Happened to the Infamous disappearance of BY: KENDRIX

On January 9, 2021, a tragic event happened to an Indonesian airplane, Sriwijaya Air SJ 182. With no survivors due to the crash, the plane was reported to face issues and disorientations during the afternoon of the day the plane crashed in the Thousand Islands or “Kepulauan Seribu”. The plane is known to have attempted to change its course right before the plane crashed into the ocean. The plane was heading from Indonesia’s capital city Jakarta, to Pontianak. Although the same plane has gone through the same route 9 times, they encountered terrible weather with storms and thunder for 2km in the air, which was probably why the plane faced difficulties. According to the plane’s Blackbox, it had lost its path when heading to the Abasa route. As it was heading east to the route, the plane disappeared and crashed into the ocean.

According to the people studying the Blackbox, the plane may have fallen because the pilot faced spatial disorientation. This meant that the pilot of the plane could not identify the angle, speed, and altitude of the plane, which becomes worse during storms. An example of what spatial disorientation causes to pilots is how they would think that the plane is stable, whereas, in reality, the plane is not balanced (ex: the plane is going down, but the pilot thinks that he is going up). There are many cases where spatial disorientation happens, but critical moments happen during the dark, as the pilots' vision is limited. During the pandemic, airlines know the risks of flying because of how some planes in their fleet or their pilots haven’t been flying for a very long time. Risks such as exhaustion and stress may lead to events such as spatial disorientation which the pilot might experience during flight.

Here is the image of Sriwijaya Air SJ 182’s route. In the image, we can see that the plane was supposed to use the Abasa route, but it went off route and crashed on the redpoint seen from the image. Based on the Blackbox, the plane, instead of slowing down in impact, picked up its pace which created more force during the crash.

THE HOTTEST GAME OF 2021

After the release of Monster Hunter: World, Capcom is yet back again with a new addition to their “Monster Hunter” series, called “Monster Hunter:

Rise”.

This

26th

March,

the

game,

inspired

by

Japanese

culture with a fantasy twist to it, will be available for Nintendo Switch.

To some of you that don’t know “Monster Hunter”, it is a video game series produced by a game publisher called Capcom, which has made popular games such as Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Mega Man. The game Monster Hunter involves you, as a player, hunting monsters and gathering resources. However, there will be monsters that chase you,

in

difficulty

over

time

as

you

progress

throughout the game. Up to this point, there are a lot of Monster Hunter games that span from multiple mainstream gaming devices from the Playstation to the Nintendo. This game is suited for those that enjoy action and role-playing video games.

In the new game Monster Hunter: Rise, some new features that became the prominent characteristics of the game, include the appearance of new wirebugs that allow grappling, new companions that are used to ride across the map, and a new fighting style that contains very fantasy or anime-esque characteristics. New monsters are also added to the game as well, with most of them having a Japanese folklore motif.

Returning monsters are also added, with many of them being very recognizable and authentic to old players. These monsters are also able to be ridden and controlled as well during the battle.

Drew Binsky: Tourist During the Pandemic By: Gino Most of us during quarantine have probably reminisced about the days before the pandemic; the time where we could travel freely locally and internationally. Unfortunately, with the plethora of restrictions, it is very difficult for us to go back to our previous way of life. However, one person in social media has stood out to the public for travelling during the pandemic.

His name is Drew Binsky, a man who has travelled locally and internationally for the last seven months, creating his content and uploading it on his channel on YouTube.

Before the pandemic started, he had travelled to nearly all 193 countries in the world recognized by the United Nations. According to Binsky, his ambition for travelling started when he was studying in Czechia, where he visited more than twenty countries during his stay there. He had also taught English in South Korea, which is arguably what really kick-started his career documenting his travels.

Unfortunately, his travelling career was put to a halt when lockdown measures were enforced in March 2020. However, when the chance of flying again was open, he decided to be one of the documenting tourists during the pandemic.

One of his first trips was going to Mexico back in July 2020, as it was one of the countries that had open borders and allowed United States citizens. He had travelled to cities and towns such as Oaxaca, Tequila, and Guadalajara.

Afterwards, he went to Africa and Asia, coming first to Egypt and then flying to Turkey before going near the border to Syria and travelling to Iraq and Afghanistan. During those travels, he made videos on the lives of local people, what you can buy there, and showing the unknown beautiful side from many of the countries. An example is when he showed an old Buddha statue in Bamiyan, Afghanistan, which had stood the test of time from 544AD before it was destroyed by a terrorist group.

Currently, during the pandemic, Drew Binsky is now in Ghana, trying to capture footage for his last six countries (including Ghana), which consists of Saudi Arabia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Jamaica, and Palau. Many of his clips in Ghana involve a video on the famous coffin dancers, buying a bull, and also footage of the street life in Ghana.

Recently, in the NBA, the most significant and interesting trade in this decade (so far) took place. The former MVP and one of the best offensive players of all time, James Harden, was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. This trade teamed the superstar up with another superstar which is Kevin Durant and the all-star Kyrie Irving. Kevin Durant is a former MVP just like Harden, a 2x champion, and one of the best scorers of all time. On the other hand, Kyrie Irving is a 1x champion and arguably the best ball handler of all time. This trade created a new contender in the NBA to challenge the former champions, Lebron James and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Even though this trade shook the NBA significantly, it was not a surprise that James Harden was traded. A few months ago, James Harden had already declared to the public that he wants to be traded from his team, the Houston Rockets. In the playoffs last season, despite teaming up with a triple-double machine, Russell Westbrook, Harden and the Rockets were eliminated in the second round. As a result of this loss, Westbrook and Harden did not want to play together for another season and the Rockets traded Westbrook to the Washington Wizards. Harden knew that the Houston Rockets were not strong contenders, especially after Westbrook was traded.

Harden is currently 31 years old, an age close to the regression stage for many NBA players. The former MVP does not have a ring yet and will probably only have a few prime years left.

Therefore, he decided that he wants to be traded soon to a team that is capable of competing for a championship. After a long time trying to convince the team to do this, it finally happened.

Houston, Brooklyn, Indiana, and Cleveland agreed on a four-team trade which involved James Harden. In return for Harden, the players Houston received were an all-star calibre player, Victor Oladipo, and 2 role players, Rodions Kurucs and Dante Exum. The Rockets also received a haul of picks including Brooklyn’s first-round draft picks in 2022, 2024 and 2026; pick swaps with the Nets in 2021, 2023, 2025 and 2027; and the Milwaukee Bucks’ first-round pick in 2022. With the Rockets letting go of their superstar player and receiving a lot of assets, they are committing to go on rebuild mode. On the Nets’ side, they gave up a lot of their draft capital and young players. This means that the Nets’ are sacrificing their future for winning championships in the present. Overall, the James Harden trade was a very aggressive move made by the Nets, but it was worth it. There is a high possibility that things won’t work out because of ego problems, but there is also a high possibility that the Nets will mesh together well and win a championship this season.

How China recovered from the pandemic

By Kendrix Being the origin of Covid-19, China was facing the worst scenario since they had the most cases and death toll in the beginning. But as they understood more about the virus they were dealing with, they enacted strict safety precautions which caused China to face incredible recovery from the pandemic compared to other countries in the world such as the United States of America. Many Chinese citizens have returned to work and gone out to places such as bars and karaoke locations. According to studies, China has recovered through three steps that they took seriously:

Lockdown Measures When the pandemic was first discovered in Wuhan, the whole city went under lockdown to contain the virus. People were not allowed to leave the city so that the virus could not spread to other locations, and so that the people outside wouldn't get infected too. China also isolated its country, to prevent ravelers from getting infected with the virus. Yet other cities other than Wuhan also got infected and also faced lockdown for months. China was very strict in their lockdowns, resulting in the number of cases to decrease.

Masks and social distancing

The law of using masks when exiting their house in China faced little objection because of how the people in their country (and others like Japan) have always used masks when going outside. It was easy for them to have a habit of using masks. Unlike in the US, where many of their citizens protested because of having to wear a mask, as it “threatens their personal freedom,” thus causing the virus to spread faster in the United States. In China, the citizens quickly followed the orders of the government (social distancing and using masks outside of their homes) to slow the virus’ growth in China.

Health Checkups In China, everyone going inside a building would have a temperature check, as one of the Covid-19 symptoms is having high temperatures. Chinese tech developers have created an app to monitor people’s health and location so that if one person has a case in the location that they went, they can be requested for a medical checkup such as a swab test.

Through these extreme measures that were followed diligently in China, their economy was able to recover and cases started to decrease. Although people in China are already starting to exit their homes, they still use their masks, social distance, and have health checkups.

New Variants

COVID-19 has been around the world for some time. This virus spread and changed everyone’s lifestyle.

We need to wear masks every day for safety and practice self-distancing with other people if we want to protect ourselves from being infected by the virus. Many countries had to do lockdown because of this virus and Zoom became a very famous app used worldwide. Most of you reading this article are probably in your houses doing quarantine. How did all of this start? Well, scientists believe that this virus originated from China, specifically bats from remote caves in China. In December 2019, the first coronavirus case was reported in a Chinese city called Wuhan. The virus then spread to Thailand, and then throughout the world. Now, the world is still suffering because of COVID-19 as infection rates throughout the globe are continuously increasing.

However, this will not be a long term issue right? We have already studied the way the virus works and find out how to survive against all COVID-19 related viruses right? Wrong. It has been discovered recently that there are new variants of this virus which are similar, but also different to the initial COVID-19 virus. The original coronavirus mutated into 3 known forms.

The first one is called B.1.1.7, found in the UK in the September of 2020. Since it was found quite recently, scientists only know that this variation spreads faster than the other variants, but they do not know much about its threats. So far, no evidence shows that this new variant leads to illness that is more severe or an increased chance risk of death. The second variant of the virus is called 1.351. It was found in South Africa and was first discovered in early October of 2020. This variant shares some similar mutations with the first variant of the virus. The second coronavirus variant is not as dangerous compared to the original virus (the one from China), but it is more contagious. Therefore, scientists need to develop more vaccines because of their quicker spreading characteristic trait. The third and final known variant of the coronavirus is called P.1. It was found in 4 people who came from Brazil at Haneda Airport in Japan. These travellers arrived at this airport on January 2, which is just recently. According to Brazil’s Health Ministry, this virus is potentially more contagious than the original coronavirus.

In conclusion, 3 new coronavirus variants were recently discovered in different places. They might not be as dangerous as the initial coronavirus, but they are probably more infectious. Hopefully, this article is able to keep you well-informed and help warn you about possible future threats.

“The Idea is to wipe out Muslims” As India Bans Muslim Schools “The idea is to wipe out Muslims” Religious tensions between Hindus and Muslims have grown since anti - Muslim citizenship laws have been applied by Narendra Modi’s government party. A few of these laws include banning Muslim schools and not allowing Muslim men to marry Hindu women (the “love jihad” law). These laws have been implemented ever since December 2019.

In fact, another anti - Muslim law has been created for all Muslim schools in certain states.

An Indian state, Assam, which was ruled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party stated that Muslim schools will be shut down. Assam’s education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the local assembly that more than 700 Muslim schools were believed to be closed down by April because the ruling party believed that they “provided substandard and lowquality education”.

The Islamic schools in that state would turn into “secular and regular” schools. Mr. Sarma, a committee of the Modi’s party stated that, “We need more doctors, police officers, bureaucrats and teachers from the minority Muslim community rather than Imams for mosques.” They also believed that Muslim schools do not provide proper education that prepares students for “the temporal world and its earthly conditions” The opposition politicians against Modi’s party started criticizing the law saying that this was simply implemented to wipe out the Muslims in India and wanted Hinduism to stay as the major religion in the country.

Wajed Ali Choudhury, a lawmaker from the Congress party, one of the oppositions stated that this idea was carried out to “wipe out Muslims”.

How will Indonesia's Government Cope with the

DEADLY COVID-19 in

2021

Recently, Indonesia has been shaken by strikingly high new infected cases of Covid-19. Passing way above 10,000 new cases in a day, the government should urgently take further actions. As of January 13, 2021, Indonesia’s capital city alone, Jakarta, had set its record for the highest number of 3,476 new infections. There had been a total of 214,728 infected cases, and a staggering total of 3,595 deaths in Jakarta since the start of this pandemic. These horrifying statistics indicate the severity of Covid-19 in Indonesia.

Indonesia receiving assistance from Singapore Singapore’s Grab pledged to support Indonesia’s government in successfully distributing the Covid-19 vaccination, by countering misinformation of the vaccine through their platform. At the same time, the company requested Indonesia’s government to consider prioritizing its partner drivers, delivery officers, merchants in the vaccination program that target the vulnerable. As mentioned by the president of Grab in Indonesia, Ridzki Kramadibrata, “With all due respect, Grab request that the Indonesian government consider prioritizing its partner to gain early access to the vaccination program so its partners can continue its contribution in helping Indonesia people fulfill their daily necessities, all the while helping the Indonesia economy recover.” Grab’s incentive to support Indonesia’s government was driven by the fact that a nation-wide vaccination would be an “important step for the nation’s economic recovery.” The company noticed the difficulties experienced by the government to achieve this vision. Thus, being committed to playing Grab’s part, through far-reaching technology and platforms.

2. Offering mass communication services through its platform to target millions of Grab users in Indonesia. This is done to prevent the spreading of false information regarding covid-19.

3. Through their in-app healthcare feature, Grab provides covid-19 vaccines healthcare consultations.

Vaccination in Indonesia On January 13, 2021, the President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, received the first Covid-19 vaccine in Indonesia to encourage Indonesians to also get vaccinated. The first round of mass vaccination is estimated to completely end at the end of February, targeting 1.46 million medical workers first.

Medical workers are at the highest risk of being infected by the virus, thus being prioritized. Then other priority groups like the elderly and public service workers will receive the vaccine in March and April. These, however, will exclude Covid-19 survivors. Deputy health minister, Dante Saksono Harbuwono, argued that those who have caught the virus would develop an immune system after recovering. Therefore, prioritizing those who have never been infected. We as younger generations will not get access to vaccinations anytime sooner.

Therefore, In the meantime, let us all keep our bodies healthy, wear masks, and stay hygienic to prevent Covid-19 from spreading.
