ENGLISH Key Topics Students study a more demanding range of texts which will help prepare them for their GCSE studies. They will study at least one novel (To Kill a Mockingbird or Lord of the Flies, for example), a Shakespeare play (Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet or The Merchant of Venice), and some World War One poetry and literature in preparation for the battlefields trip in the Summer Term. They might also study a modern play such as Educating Rita. A wide range of reading, writing and speaking and listening activities will allow students to hone their analytical, language and creative writing skills so that they are ready for the demands of Year 10.
