(I)GCSE - SUMMER 2018 In the summer of 2018 students across the country received the first results in English and Maths under the new ‘9-1’ grading system and there has been much in the press about this already. From September 2018 at the Stephen Perse Foundation, all our GCSE subjects will be graded on the 9-1 scale. 9-1 Grading has been aligned with A*-G such that there are certain ‘anchor points’, including Grade 4 (equivalent to a C) and Grade 7 (equivalent to an A):

Grade 5 is aligned such that it will capture (approximately) the top third of Grade C and the bottom third of Grade B students, thus deeming it a ‘strong pass’. Consequently, a Grade 4 is equivalent to the bottom two thirds of Grade C and a 6 to the top two thirds of ‘B’.

Reading week: Week beginning 16 October In Year 11 normal homework will be set but during this week students will be particularly encouraged to read.
Mock Examinations: January The Year 11 mock examinations are intended to give students a final session of examination practice before their GCSEs begin in May. The aim of these examinations is to develop students’ skills in both preparing for and actually sitting examinations. Teachers will guide their students through a revision process and strategies appropriate to their subject. Students will have practical Science exams. The mock examination results may be used as
predictions for examination boards and references for Sixth Form colleges. Some oral and practical examinations will take place before study leaves commences.
