Plan your day Arrival and registration We are looking forward to meeting you and your family at our open event on Saturday 21 September – we will be open at 9.30am. Please enter the Senior School site though our entrances at either Coronation Street or Union Road. A member of our friendly team will digitally register your attendance. For sustainable travel options please see page 18.
Welcome desk You will be guided by a member of staff to the welcome desk where we will then provide you with everything you need for your visit. This includes guidance on which welcome talk and school talk to attend and you will be introduced to your student ambassador who will be your personal tour guide for the duration of your visit.
Student-led tour Your student ambassador will take you around the school so that you can see all the exciting demonstrations, lessons and activities taking place. It is also an opportunity for you to ask them questions to find out what it is really like to study at the Stephen Perse.
Refreshments Refreshments will be available from our Dining Hall throughout the event.
The Stephen Perse Passport Imagine school as a passport for the future - you want to collect as many stamps as possible in order to leave school equipped for whatever future you choose. Lessons and exams are important stamps to collect, but we also focus on those stamps that you won’t find in other schools, because we do things differently here.
Your mission Get your passport stamped at all 5 ‘Passport stops’ around the school and receive a prize when you return to the welcome desk. Keep a look out for ‘Passport stop’ signs as you follow the tour route with your student ambassador.

Computer Science and Coding Club Steven Hill – Curriculum Leader Computer Science Location – IT4 From Angry Birds to app development, our students have the opportunity to gain skills and experience, as well as a flexible, critical approach to solving problems. Please join us to have a go. Technology has contributed enormously to the collation of data about our shifting climate. Among other projects, students in our Coding Club are exploring the design and development of a software app that addresses the environment and its sustainability. Come and find out more.
Psychology Alison Daniels – Curriculum Leader Psychology Location – N1 Get involved in a debate, join one of our activities or explore our enrichment options all focussed on psychology.
Languages Claudia Freeman – Head of Modern Languages and Head of German La salle des énigmes (The Puzzle Room) Location – N2 and N3 Come and solve a language mystery by putting your linguistic skills to the test. As a languages detective can you spot the clues and solve the puzzles? Bonne chance! Buena suerte! Viel Glück! You can also have a brush with Chinese and have a go at some Chinese Calligraphy.

Religious Studies & Philosophy Will Frost – Curriculum Leader of Religious Studies & Philosophy Location – H26 What do different religions say about sustainability? Can religion help change people’s attitudes towards the environment? Come along to the Religious Studies & Philosophy department to see students explore these questions through a range of activities and discussion.
Music Matthew Rudd – Director of Music Location – Activity Space Enjoy performances from students who take part in our Rock School activity, listen to a Chamber Music rehearsal and witness a sampling of our regular student-led Open Mic sessions.
Design Engineering Roger Bett – Curriculum Leader Design Engineering Location – STEM building Is it possible to build a working bicycle from recycled cardboard and newspaper? Come down to the workshop and find out.
Physics Gill Dambaza – Director of Science Location – G40 Physics inspires wonder about the world and universe around us. Come and see how we achieve this in the classroom through practicals and demonstrations which are designed to make you ask the question, “how does that work?”

Chemistry Mark Woodward – Curriculum Leader Chemistry Location – G50 Chemistry looks at what the world around us is made from, come and get hands on with experiments to separate and explore materials from everyday life.
Drama Helene Barrell – Curriculum Leader of Drama & Theatre Location – Drama Studio We love performing but we also love making things. Come and see how we recycle materials to make props, sets and costumes for our drama and theatre productions. Have your photo taken with our giant crocodile puppet or dress up in one of the costumes from recent productions ‘Alice in Wonderland’ or ‘Wendy and Peter Pan’.
Classics Katharine Radice – Curriculum Leader of Classics Location – N5 Join us and find out about de Romanis, the new KS3 Latin textbook, written by members of the Stephen Perse Foundation’s Classics department. See how our approach combines cultural and historical analysis with a rigorous approach to the language. Have a go at some deductive exercises and see if cracking the code of Latin and finding out about the Romans is the thing for you.
English Helen Kedie – Curriculum Leader of English Location – N6 A recent BBC article ran the headline ‘Nature’s language is being hijacked by technology.’ Come along to the English department and talk to students as they investigate the way in which words to describe the natural world have been faring of late.

Economics Sarah-Jane McEwan – Curriculum Leader of Economics Location – N7 Economics allows us to holistically examine the problems that we face everyday around the world, which is the starting point for solving them. Come and discuss and examine issues such as climate change, plastic pollution, Donald Trump’s trade policies, BREXIT, obesity and aid to the developing world.
Maths David Atkins – Curriculum Leader of Mathematics Location – N4 Come and see our engaging approach to teaching maths: students will work on ‘Kahoot’ Maths, covering a variety of mathematical topics, and we will also solve puzzles and challenges on our innovative writable walls.
Art Benjamin Keeble – Curriculum Leader of Visual Arts Location – Visual Arts Centre Visit our Visual Arts Centre - dedicated Art Studios each with a different focus to explore your creative potential. Get a feel for how art is taken to the next level at Stephen Perse with practical workshops to explore how artists and designers encourage sustainable practice with their resources, and the potential for exciting careers which lay ahead in the next decade where creative thinking will be prized above other skills.
History Natalie Stanley – Curriculum Leader of History Location – IT3 Test your political and military strategy skills. Come and see our students understand how William the Conqueror took control of England following the Norman invasion in 1066. See how our students play this interactive game to determine the most effective yet brutal, methods William used to ensure total domination of England.

Or perhaps learn how to STOMP, creating mini rhythmic compositions using recycled materials.

Registration Registration is via our online admissions portal which is a paperless streamlined process where you complete forms, upload documents, schedule interviews and make payments whilst allowing you to track the status of your application at anytime from any device. The deadline for submitting a registration for 2020 entry is listed below and there is a non-refundable registration fee of £100. Key deadline dates •
Nursery, Kindergarten and Reception - applications will be accepted throughout the year and are subject to space being available.

Junior School - the deadline for registrations is 10 December 2019. Places may be available later in the year subject to availability.

Senior School - the deadline date for registrations is 10 December 2019.

Sixth form Colleges - the deadline date for registrations, including scholarship application(s) is 4 November 2019.
Assessment Our entry assessment dates take place at various times during the year: •
Nursery assessment (1-3 year olds) - comprises a visit and a meeting with the Head of Early Years an offer will be made if places are available.

Kindergarten assessment - entry tests will take place on various dates in January 2020.
•
Reception assessment - entry tests will take place on various dates in October 2019.
•
Years 3 assessment - entry tests will take place on 11 January 2020 from 9:30am - 12:30pm however, should we have applications for other year groups in the Junior School this will be subject to availability.

Senior School assessment - entry tests will take place on 18 January 2020.
•
Sixth form Colleges Academic Scholarship, Entrance & International Entrance Testing Day: Saturday 23 November 2019. Sport, Drama, Music and Art scholarship interviews will take place on 18-22 November 2019.

Travelling to Stephen Perse Parking around our Stephen Perse sites is very limited and as part of our sustainable focus we encourage all visitors to use public transport where possible.
Park and Ride We highly recommend that you take advantage of the excellent park and ride facilities Cambridge has to offer. With five park and ride sites located around Cambridge and regular buses into the city centre it is a convenient and sustainable way to travel to our schools.
Train We’re only a 15 minute walk from Cambridge Railway Station. When exiting the station walk down Station Road, turn right into Hills Road, take a left down Union Road to our Senior School site. Please see the map on page 18.
Cycling Cycling in Cambridge is a popular means of transport, you will be able to park your bicycle on our Senior School site, please use the Coronation Street entrance.
Public car parking There are a number of public car parks close to our schools, the nearest is Queen Anne Car Park. There is also limited metered parking around our site. Please see the map on page 18.
Open event car park - limited free car parking - CB2 8AA Parking will be available from 08:30-13:30 in the Cambridge University Press car parks opposite our 6th Form College on Shaftesbury Road, please see the map on page 18. Upon turning onto Shaftesbury Road, pass Fitzwilliam Road on the left, continue through the large iron gates and you’ll see the Stephen Perse Foundation 6th Form College on the left hand side just after the gates. The first car park is on the right hand side. A larger car park can be found at the end of the road. This car park is approximately a 15 minute walk from the Senior School. Please note that the car park gates will be closed and locked at 13:45 by Cambridge University Press staff. You will not be be able to retrieve your car after this time.

General information Fire alarm If the fire alarm sounds please exit the site and assemble at the University of Cambridge, Department of Chemistry car park.
First aid We have trained first aiders on site, please ask any member of staff for assistance or go to the welcome desk.
Lost people/property It is advisable to inform all members of your party that should you get separated to meet at the welcome desk. If you lose an item of property please go to the welcome desk to report your loss.
Photography on the day We will be taking photographs and videos during the open event to document the day. If you do not wish to have your photo taken or to be videoed please make your wishes known to the photographer and videographer.
Student reporters Stephen Perse student reporters will be documenting the open event, they may approach you for your comments and views.
