The Role
Development Manager Accountable to: Charitable Foundation Director
Role Purpose
The Stephen Perse Foundation seeks to appoint a Development Manager to join its small, ambitious Development and Communications Team. This is an important role working in a stimulating environment, reporting to the Director of the Charitable Foundation, alongside the Communications Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful applicant to develop their career in fundraising and alumni relations in an educational setting. The postholder will have a varied role engaging with a wide range of stakeholders including donors, parents and alumni. We are looking for someone who is proactive, with excellent fundraising experience and communication skills, both written and oral, a keen eye for detail and strong organisational and time management skills. This is a full time position, with a competitive salary dependent on qualifications and experience, with the possibility of flexible working. The Principal, Senior Team and Governors are supportive of fundraising and the role that it can play in the life of the School. The Development Office was established two years ago and is building and developing from sound foundations. The alumni operation has been in place for much longer. The overall aim of the Development Office is to build a strong sense of community amongst current and former parents, staff and alumni and raise money to enable us to widen access to the offer and benefits of a Stephen Perse education and to enhance the school’s facilities.
The role of the Development Manager is to proactively support the Charitable Foundation Director in a wide range of activities in support of the Stephen Perse Foundation and to take responsibility for the day to day running of the Development and Alumni Relations functions.
Key Responsibilities
Fundraising
• To work closely with the Charitable
Foundation Director to agree a
Fundraising Strategy, and annual fundraising plan. • To help build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including donors, parents, alumni and other members of our community to encourage engagement, networking and support for specific fundraising campaigns and initiatives for bursaries and other identified projects including all aspects of fundraising planning, communications, and events. • To ensure that all donors are appropriately thanked and acknowledged, providing a high level of donor stewardship. • To monitor progress on funded projects in order to provide timely feedback and reporting to donors. • To prepare Development reports and take and prepare minutes of fundraising meetings as required.
• To develop strong, positive relationships with staff and contribute to collaborative work across the schools to help engender a culture of fundraising across the organisation. • To manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, working both independently and in conjunction with the Charitable
Foundation Director and others as appropriate to build relationships and solicit gifts. • To take a leading role in the planning and implementation of certain fundraising initiatives, including Stephen
Perse taking part in The Big Give
Christmas Challenge, the development of legacy fundraising and annual giving. • To Support the Charitable Foundation
Director in the conception and planning of fundraising activities and executing specific campaigns.
Alumni Relations
• To ensure regular, timely and appropriate communications with alumni in order to maximise their engagement with Stephen Perse. • To organise and manage alumni events and other engagement with the schools, such as careers advice, work experience opportunities, speakers etc. • To encourage alumni to support the school and to develop annual giving. • To identify and develop any major donor opportunities through the alumni network. • To encourage engagement with the digital platform Alumnet.

Database, Systems and Research
• To take responsibility for managing, maintaining and analysing the database (Raiser’s Edge) with fundraising and alumni relationships, including accurate inputting and updating of constituent data and managing the yearly migration of data as students leave and become alumni.
• To ensure that Raiser’s Edge is used to maximum effect and to ensure that the necessary protocols are in place for its use. • To manage, promote and develop the
Alumnet digital platform, to maximise engagement and ensure that it becomes a vibrant online community, supporting the goals of the department. • Utilising the database to prepare management information as required. • To manage and process incoming gifts (including pledges, single and regular donations) and to liaise with the
Finance Bursar on receipt of donations, acknowledgement, earmarking of funds,
Gift Aid etc.
• To undertake top line, or more detailed, prospect research, as needed, to help to better understand our community and identify potential new donors.
Events – Engagement and Stewardship
• To manage the development of a range of cultivation, fundraising and stewardship events. • To develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally.
Communications and Marketing
• To lead on the Communication Strategy for the Development and Alumni function including planning high quality regular email communications. • Utilise email marketing tools to design and send out invitations and updates regarding events and news. • To work with the Communications
Manager to ensure that development messages are promoted on a regular and agreed basis through Stephen
Perse social media platforms including implementing an annual plan specifically using Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn as well as Alumnet.
• To encourage all leavers to join the
Alumni community. • To plan and manage the production of a regular Alumni newsletter including creative input in the design, creation of a content plan, undertaking interviews, writing articles, proofreading and ensuring it is published on schedule. • To provide copy as required for other publications and the website.
Managing Income and Budgets
• To work with the Charitable Foundation
Director to agree an annual income budget (target) for fundraising and a corresponding expenditure budget. • To liaise with the Finance Department in respect of income; reconciling income on a regular basis. • To review and manage budgets for events.
• To produce income projections and forecasts based on current income and forward pledges.
General
To undertake any other duties that might be required in the above role as directed by The Charitable Foundation Director.
