Interpreting Dora Maar For this I took one of my favourite pieces of work done by Dora Maar and recreated it using my own techniques. I started by taking a photo of my friend in the same pose as the original piece. I transferred that photo onto Adobe photoshop mix to digitally edit her face being held similar to a mask. I then edited this into black and white and printed it out onto heat transfer paper which I then used a heat press to transfer this onto calico.

Finally I used white acrylic to paint round the background to achieve a similar effect to Dora Maar.

Due to the limited resources, for the next few pages I did a collection on sketches based of product imagery. Since being unable to use a model to recreate magazine covers, I instead chose to model products.

Products are also a major aspect in fashion and are broadly advertised, often in magazines. I played around with how I positioned the bottles similar to in the media in which products are glammed up in order to convince shoppers to buy them.

It is an interesting concept in the media to look into whether we actually need the products advertised or whether it is primarily for profit in the companies selling them. A primary example of this would be women's razors, as before it wasn’t expected in woman to shave however once companies started bringing women's razors into stores for extra profit, it has now become social standards for women to shave.
