April 2026

CHAIRMAN’S CORNER

April always feels like a turning point. Over the past few months, I’ve talked about rhythm and execution— February being about settling into a cadence, and March shifting that momentum into action. April, in many ways, is where those efforts begin to show results. In baseball terms, this is when spring training gives way to the regular season when preparation is over, the roster is set, and every pitch starts to count. Our section has been doing its own version of spring training: refining programming, strengthening partnerships, and building alignment across our committees and study groups. Now, much like opening day, execution takes center stage.

If you followed the recent World Baseball Classic, you likely saw a similar story play out. Team USA came up just short in a tightly contested game against Venezuela—a narrow margin that serves as a reminder: even the strongest teams are tested, and outcomes are often decided by consistency and execution over time.

That same principle applies directly to one of the most important initiatives we’ve introduced this year our Corporate Sponsorship Program.

Corporate Sponsorship Initiative – Early Momentum, Lasting Impact

As introduced in prior months, our Annual Section Sponsorship Campaign was designed around a simple but important idea: predictability creates strength. I’m encouraged to share that we are seeing a strong and positive response from across the basin. Companies are stepping up with committed, meaningful dollars an indication not only of support for SPE, but of confidence in the value this section delivers.

This early momentum matters. It allows us to plan with greater certainty, elevate the quality of our programming, and most importantly, ensure that our scholarship commitments are backed by a sustainable financial foundation. It also reinforces something we’ve said from the beginning: strong partnerships are built on clarity, consistency, and mutual value.

For those companies who have already committed thank you. Your support is directly enabling the impact we aim to deliver this upcoming year.

For those still evaluating participation, I would encourage you to engage with us. This initiative was intentionally designed to align with budgeting cycles and reduce the friction of mid-year requests. More importantly, it provides a clear and meaningful way to invest in the technical community that supports our industry.

If your organization is looking for a way to make a tangible impact this is it.

May Scholarship Banquet –“All That Jazz”

As we look ahead to May, excitement continues to build for our annual Scholarship Awards Banquet. This year’s theme, “All That Jazz,” brings a fresh and energetic backdrop to an event that represents the very best of what our section stands for.

As mentioned in last month’s letter, this event is where our efforts come full circle.

CHAIRMAN’S CORNER

The banquet is more than a celebration it is the outcome of a year’s worth of partnership, planning, and investment in the next generation of energy professionals. The strength we are seeing in our sponsorship program directly translates into the opportunities we are able to provide to students.

I encourage you to secure your tables, bring your teams, and be part of what is consistently one of the most meaningful evenings of our year.

Leadership Transition – Looking Ahead to May

May will also mark an important transition as we install the 2026–2027 Board of Directors.

Strong organizations evolve intentionally. The incoming Board brings new perspective and energy, while continuing to build on the structure and momentum developed over the past year. I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside many of these individuals, and I’m confident the section will continue to move forward in a positive direction. At the same time, I want to recognize our current Board, committee chairs, and volunteers. The progress we’re seeing today is a direct result of their effort and commitment behind the scenes.

Industry Backdrop – A Measured Perspective

It would be hard to ignore the recent upward movement in oil prices. While markets will always fluctuate, the recent increase has brought a renewed sense of activity and cautious optimism across the basin. As always, our focus remains on consistency delivering value to our membership regardless of where we are in the cycle. That steady approach is what allows organizations like ours to remain relevant through both momentum and uncertainty.

Closing Thoughts

If February was about finding rhythm, and March about execution, then April is about sustaining momentum. Much like a baseball season, success is built over time through preparation, consistency, and strong teamwork. Our section is well-positioned as we move into the final stretch of the SPE year, and I’m excited about what lies ahead.

Thank you for your continued engagement and investment in this community. I look forward to seeing many of you at upcoming events and especially at our Scholarship Awards Banquet in May
