CHAIRMAN’S CORNER

To my fellow Permian Basin SPE members,

Who doesn’t love October with all the Fall feels? Sub 100-degree temperatures, an explosion of pumpkin spice flavored everything in the grocery stores, SEC football excitement, the infamous Permian Basin Oil Show, and an inordinate volume of office Halloween candy kindly donated by your coworkers that just want it out of their house.

The Chapter hosted several successful events this past month, such as a resume workshop at UTPB, as well as Comple ons and Produc on focused technical luncheons thanks to the study group chairs. Addi onally, Richard Brantley spoke at the General Sec on Mee ng monthly luncheon in honor of the 100th year anniversary of the Santa Rita #1 well, which was an inspiring tribute to the many faces behind what was a daun ng opera on at the me. His presenta on covered the rich history of how the 2.1 million acres of University Lands, spread across 19 West Texas coun es, came to be and the mul tude of surface and mineral lease agreements. The revenue directly contributes to the Permanent University Fund, which has grown to be the largest university endowment in the US and supports over 20 educa onal and health ins tu ons. It is remarkable that back in the 1830’s President Mirabeau B. Lamar had the foresight to set aside such large con guous blocks of land to benefit the Texas higher educa on system.

Last but certainly not least, we hosted the once again sold out SPE Permian Basin annual golf tournament. Proceeds go directly to the scholarship fund which will be awarded to numerous deserving college students in Spring 2024. Thank you to all the amazing sponsors, volunteers, cooks, and athletes for making the event possible!

The momentum con nues as there are many opportuni es to stay plugged into your local SPE network coming up this month. The reservoir engineering study group will be hos ng Dave Anderson, the co-founder and CEO of SAGA Wisdom, to discuss (Con nued on Next Page)

unconven onal well and pad design on October 12th. Addi onally, the Chapter will be hos ng our first SPE Dis nguished Lecturer, Garre Wright, COO of ResFrac, on October 17th. He will be discussing how to leverage hydraulic fracture learnings in development strategies. We’ll close out the month with a fun opportunity to volunteer at the Petroleum Museum’s Spooky Science Spectacular on October 26th, where you can engage with elementary aged children over simple STEM experiments.

Be on the lookout in your email inbox and follow us on LinkedIn for event updates and registra on details. As always, if you want to volunteer, sponsor, collaborate or provide feedback, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at spepb@outlook.com.

Cheers,
