SPE-PB Chairman 2023-2024
As we wrap up the first quarter of the year, I con nue to be amazed and humbled by the connec ons one can make through the Society of Petroleum Engineers. SPE’s global footprint fosters a strong sense of community no ma er where your travels take you, with over 200 sec ons worldwide and coun ng.
It all starts here at the local sec on level – the true face of SPE. Terry Palisch, the 2024 SPE Interna onal President, o en highlights in his monthly podcast the value of a SPE membership and compares it to a gym membership – the more you put in, the more you get out. If you want to expand your network, technical know-how and perspec ve, SPE is a great avenue to do so. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to get involved in SPE right here in the heart of the Permian Basin. Volunteering your me for a non-profit, such as SPE, and working towards a common purpose is a great way to organically grow your network and develop professional so skills. If you’re interested in taking on more of a leadership role within the organiza on, please reach out to us at spepb@outlook.com.
The current Board of Directors has begun succession planning and will introduce the new slate in late May. To ensure the con nued success of the chapter, we are looking for highly mo vated and capable individuals in our community who are passionate about cul va ng events for technical knowledge dissemina on, fundraising, and suppor ng the genera ons behind us that are interested in pursuing a career in the oil and gas industry. Feel free to reach out to any of the current officers listed on the last page of this newsle er to have a candid discussion about their experience with SPE, the roles they’ve held on the board, and opportuni es to get you plugged in this upcoming term.
Looking ahead, we have an exci ng lineup of events for the month of March. We will be hos ng a series of technical events featuring industry experts who will delve into mely topics such as advancements in well steering and the ecosystem of data analy cs at a major E&P. The presenta on will cover how industry is tes ng innova ve ideas with embedded motor sensors to improve drilling efficiency and direc onal control. Dr. Samuel has close to 40 years of experience in drilling engineering, won numerous SPE Interna onal awards, published 220+ papers, and to top it off is an adjunct professor at University of Houston and University of California, LA.
