It is my dis nct honor to welcome you to the new 2024-2025 term year! On behalf of our Board of Directors, let me be the first to thank you for being a valuable member. We look forward to serving you in this new term.
It is an extremely exci ng me to be an SPE Permian Basin Sec on member. From the Oil and Gas industry, ideas imagined years ago have gained momentum, and there has been substan al growth in the Permian. So, there will be a lot of a en on to feedback, process and support to our members with a clear vision. The SPE Permian Basin sec on is dedicated to dissemina ng technical knowledge in the Permian consistent with SPE Interna onal’s mission and to give back to the community. “Passion for the Permian Basin” is how I like to describe it. Our team will be diligently working to bring you technical knowledge and help you build rela onships to network and learn and grow together. Stay tuned for the month of September where we will officially kick off and bring in strong momentum on ac vi es!
For this new term, on the Board of Directors, we have a great team of growth mindset and passionate individuals looking to make an impact for our sec on to achieve our mission. Throughout the summer the team has been hard at work to prepare for the upcoming term. To meet the full 2024-2025 Board of Directors turn to page 18! Shivani Vyas, and Gustavo Gonzales were able to deliver record breaking scholarship dollars of $141,000 to 40 college students from our immediate area seeking to enter the petroleum industry. This impact to the community and investment into the future of our industry is what it is all about.
To the past Chairs of the Board who have led a strategy that has kept the Permian Basin Sec on in a very healthy posi on to con nue to add value and seek opportunity to enhance the membership experience, thank you for your service and con nued service. Taylor Montoya, our immediate past chair, has mentored me and developed key influences of strategy that leaves us in a great situa on. Shivani Vyas, the past chair term year before, also has mentored me and gave me the opportunity to join the board in 2022. She was able to deliver a then record scholarship amount of $112,000 during her term. We look forward to the challenge of staying on trend to deliver another record-breaking year.
These achievements come with great support from our sponsors. Special thanks to Edward Runyan who has contributed scholarship funds con nuously throughout the years, the CO2 Conference (led by Stephen Melzer and Pam Boring Represen ng Chair) has been a top supporter year a er year, and the Golf Tournament (led by Jeane e Reyes) has been our number one avenue for bringing in scholarship dollars. I plan to send a special thank you to sponsors and con nued contributors to the sec on in the next Chairman’s Corner. You are the blessing to this en ty, and we admire and thank you for your philanthropy. The support is already in ac on for the upcoming Golf Tournament on September 6th .
In June, it was my great honor to begin the term as Chairman of the Board of Directors. I am a proud Petroleum Engineer for Chevron and a graduate of the University of Texas Permian Basin (As I like to call it “The Harvard of West Texas”). I am also a proud West Texan. Raised by my Mom and Grandmother in Ft. Stockton, Tx, they ins lled hard work and dedica on. I have served as a member of the Board of Directors since 2022 and had the opportunity to serve 2 terms as Toastmaster's Area Director (2022-2024). In all these years, one thing that stood out is contribu on to the community to enhance the surroundings/environment while sustaining its values, a mo va ng factor for myself as we begin this term! Look forward to mee ng you all at our events!
