Between Soil and Sky
Agriculturehasalwaysresonatedwithmeonapersonallevel, as Icomefromacrop-farmingfamily inTaiwan. Farmersinmy homelandfaceimmensechallenges, whichhavepushedmany inmy generationtoleavethe landbehind.
Asachild, Ispentmy freetimehelpinginthefields. Though Inever truly enjoyed thework, Ilovedbeingamong thecrops, feelingmy feetinthepuddles, breathinginthesoil, andbaskinginthesun. Mygrandfatheroftentold me, "Studyhardsoyoudon'tbecomeafarmer." For alongtime, Ibelievedthat beingafarmermeantfailure. Butas Igrewolder, Ibegantoseethingsdifferently.
In Bordeaux, Imet MickaelandValerie, whorun Chateau Haut-Goujon. Inrecentyears, many winemakersinthe regionhavestruggledtosustaintheir businesses, butthey haveadaptedandendured, remaining grounded andsincereintheir work.
In Paris, MartheandCapucineworkwithVeniVerdi, an NGO dedicatedtotransformingthecity'sskylineintoa newkindof farminglandscape. They growvegetablesandhostworkshopsfor childrenandvolunteers, imagininganew future foragricultureinthe city.
In both Bordeauxand Paris, Iencounter thesepeoplewhoare redefining whatitmeanstofarmtoday. Their pathsmay be different, buttheircareandcommitmentechothesamevalue. Throughouttheworld, agricultureisincreasingly overlooked, leadingtowidespreadmisconceptionsandagrowingknowledgegap betweengenerations. Yetbetweensoilandsky, peoplecontinuetocultivate, whetherinvineyardsor on rooftops, pushing forward withcareandcreativity, eveninthemostunexpectedplaces.
