Sounds of the City: Parisian Buskers
Although home to many world renowned theaters and spectacles, Paris’ greatest stage might be its very own sidewalks — where musicians, dancers, comedians, and other talents perform daily for anyone who’ll listen. This project portrays the diversity of street performers, also known as buskers, who bring joy and entertainment to this multicultural city.
To me, if Paris had its own soundtrack, it would not be complete without the hum of a trumpet by the Seine, Edith Piaf’s tunes from an accordion in Montmartre, the cheering chants of a crowd in Trocadéro, and more harmonies and rhythms that create the sounds of the city.
Alexandra Contreras is a Venezuelan-American photographer currently based in Paris and specialized in documentary, events, and portrait photography. She’s interested in capturing the culture of the places she lives in and visits around the world, and in collaborating with other creatives, artists, entrepreneurs, and small businesses to bring their messages and visions to life.
In addition to photography, she also has a background in marketing and communications, with three years of experience working as the Communications Coordinator at Locust Projects, Miami’s longestrunning alternative art space, where she developed the ability to create compelling content that tells a story and engages an audience.
