Even though there have been personnel changes over the years, the one thing that has remained constant is the vision that founder Tony Butala first dreamed of – that unique three-part harmony as only The Lettermen can achieve. Though musical tastes have changed over the years, The Lettermen Legacy continues. They celebrate the power and universal appeal of love songs with perfection – and on this special night, the Spencer Theater’s 25th Anniversary – they share their sparkling melodies as a loving ode to the Spencer. Spencer Theater’s 25th Anniversary

Love. It’s the greatest of all things – all emotions, motivations, experiences and memories. Harmony shares it all!

The Lettermen are the masters of love songs, sharing life-affirming vibrancy in their amazing canon of pitch-perfect harmonies. For more than 50 years, The Lettermen – Donovan Tea, Bobby Poynton and Rob Gulack – have kept the meaning of harmony alive with their soft, romantic, harmonic blends of music which is as popular today as it was in 1961 when they recorded their first hit “The Way You Look Tonight.” The release came amid the day’s rock ‘n’ roll, and listeners wanted more and more. With their second single that year, “When I Fall In Love,” The Lettermen immediately shot up the Billboard charts, establishing the young trio as the most ro mantic singing group of a generation. They also earned the ranking “Best Vocal Group” and “Best New Group.” As one clever deejay declared, “The Lettermen sound was “the best thing that happened to romance since moonlight.” Hit after hit followed: “When I Fall in Love,” “Theme From A Summer Place,” “Put Your Head on My Shoulder,” “Hurt So Bad,” and “Shangri-La” as well as over 50 albums filled with special romantic Lettermen harmony. One of their better-known songs, “Goin’ Out of My Head/Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” was a first of its kind when it was released; it was the first hit record ever to completely integrate two songs as one. To their credit, The Lettermen have over 75 albums – numerous certified gold, including 18 inter nationally – and myriad mega hits that prove timeless.

10/29

Originally labeled as America’s answer to the progressive invasion of such English acts as “Yes” and “King Crimson,” Ambrosia quickly proved it was all that and much more as its albums painted aural landscapes covering the gamut of musical styles and attracting the collaboration of such cultural icons as Leonard Bernstein, Kurt Vonnegut Jr. Alan Parsons, Bruce Hornsby, and others, and they enjoyed extensive tours with Fleetwood Mac, Heart, and the Doobie Brothers.

Exploring the possibilities of progressive, classical and world influences, yet rooted with the soul of the blues and R&B Ambrosia, created a new sound! They garnered 5 Grammy Nominations, 5 Hit Singles – including “You’re The Only Woman (You & I), “Holdin’ On To Yesterday,” “How Much I Feel,” “Biggest Part Of Me,” “Can’t Let A Woman,” and other FM favorites. All this was in addition to Sold Out concerts around the world.
