Embracing Success: the DIXON BROTHERS

Every so often, I get the chance to meet and chat with some very cool, accomplished people, and in this case, the Dixon brothers. I was captivated by their friendliness, charm, wisdom and selflish generosity.

So, where to begin with Glenn and David?

The brothers were born and raised in Toronto, Canada in an Irish-Catholic family, with six kids. Their early exposure to fashion can be attributed to the ambitions of their mother, who wanted her children to dress in the latest style. As David states: “My introduction to fashion was through two sources; Barbie and television, specifically 'The Love Boat.' On this one episode they had designers acting as themselves for a fashion show on the high seas. Gloria Vanderbilt, Geoffrey Beene, Halston, and Bob Mackie were the designers and they put a name to a career I didn't know existed.”

Glenn adds that when he was just a kid, their mother would often help him rearrange the furniture while everyone was out of the house, and wait for the surprise when the family came home to see the "new improved" layouts!

It should be no surpise that the brothers continue to work together; they compliment each other with their creative brilliance.

One of their most spectacular collaborative alliances was when Mattel, in honour of Barbie's 50th Anniversary, partnered with them to create a special collection. David's fashion designs, along with Glenn's furniture line were a huge hit. David's Barbie-inspired collection opened LG's Fashion Week, with Glenn producing the runway show.

Whether it's interior design, fashion design or anything really, there's a lot of 'noise" out there that I have to shift through to consider editorials in Spencer. But I'm thrilled to have had the distinct pleasure of interviewing these remarkable brothers.
