Dreaming of a Home Remodel? Meet the Pros Who Make It Possible Oct. 27–28 The annual Remodeled Homes Tour is an open house exploration of our region’s most spectacular remodeled homes.

Get ready for a fun and inspiring weekend exploring some of the Puget Sound region’s top remodeling projects at this year’s Remodeled Homes Tour. Presented by the Remodelers Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties, the Remodeled Homes Tour invites visitors to experience firsthand—for free— some of the finest craftsmanship and most innovative ideas in home remodeling.

This year’s tour takes place the weekend of Oct. 27 and 28, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. each day. All 15 featured homes are open Saturday, with some open all weekend. Many visitors plan a day tour using the handy tour map to experience as many homes as possible over the two-day period.

Visitors gain exclusive access to some of the most impressive custom-remodeled private residences throughout our region, where they can get up close and personal with cool new features from Instagram and all those HGTV shows.

Better yet, this home tour offers a chance

to walk through home remodels and speak one-on-one with the remodelers themselves. Remodelers participating in the tour hope guests will see the possibilities in their own homes and leave inspired to make their dream renovation a reality—with the help of a professional remodeler, of course.

The diverse homes featured on the tour reside in Seattle and many parts of the Eastside, in addition to neighborhoods in Shoreline and Renton. From kitchen and bathroom remodels to outdoor living additions and master suite updates, there’s something for everyone amongst this year’s projects.

Answer: Every property is different, but there are a few inexpensive preparations that can benefit virtually any home before listing.

Repairing dents, holes or damage to interior walls makes a big difference in the perceived condition of a home.

Follow these repairs with a fresh coat of interior paint in a light and neutral color. This not only helps your home appear fresher, cleaner, and better maintained but also, yields better listing photographs! Even recently painted rooms that are not in a neutral shade should be repainted to a light, neutral color. While a colorful accent wall may be appealing in person, it will not photograph as well. Neutral paint colors appeal to a broader range of buyers and yield better photographs. Since online searches are typically buyers’ first exposure to properties, capturing a buyers’ attention with quality photographs to showcase a home at its best are crucial to capturing buyer interest. Smell is a sensitive issue for many buyers, even if its simply the smell of recently applied paint! Use a low-odor paint if listing shortly after paint is applied!

Minor repairs like re-caulking bathtubs and sinks or replacing damaged or missing outlet covers are important, simple fixes that should not be overlooked. Having carpets professionally cleaned or replaced, when necessary, eliminates set-in odors and presents homes – especially older homes – as clean and well maintained. By remedying these quick fixes, buyers are less likely to form unnecessary concerns about a property’s condition.

Additionally, replacing a single appliance can be relatively inexpensive. Especially when all appliances in a room except for one have been updated, consider replacing the dated appliance to match the others. Even if it still functions well, notably older and mismatched appliances negatively stand out to buyers.

Once the minor repairs and updates have been made, it is important to stage the property. In recent years the prices of professional staging companies rose so significantly that it became cost prohibitive for many sellers. “A lot of homeowners want the clean kitchen look, so they’re afraid to bring in a dark, dramatic color,” says DeBoe Harper. “In reality, incorporating black cabinets or fixtures into an all-white kitchen can give it an upscale, current feel that’s still streamlined -- and doesn’t require cluttering your countertops with accent pieces.”

Consider combining a matte black faucet, such as Moen’s Sleek kitchen faucet, with a white backsplash and counters, or mixing black bentwood café chairs around a modern white tulip table for a more eclectic approach.

• Shower Your Bathroom with Style. Black and white can give your bathroom a clean, crisp look. Infuse black accents through a matte black faucet and coordinating accessories, like those from Moen’s Genta bathroom suite, or through black and white floor tiles in a geometric print.

Towels also provide an opportunity to add texture and visual interest, whether it’s a modern floral or traditional houndstooth.

A Few Things To Consider When Creating An Office Design

Designing an office space is important because we spend many hours of time growing our own business or building the company who employs us. Making that space a productive and fun environment that reflects the company’s emotional brand helps to retain employees and build strong customer relations.

Look around the office or think about the interior design plans for the new office space. What do you want the office to convey? What do you want your clients or customers to experience? There are six types of brand “feelings” that can help answer these and many other questions. These brand feelings are warm, fun, excitement, security, social approval and self-respect. Building an emotional brand affects people’s behavior and builds deeper relationships, which is important to grow your business.

To help identify your emotional brand your company and the office space, it’s a good idea to answer the following four questions: 1.

Who are you? This is your brand identity.

2.

What are you? This is the meaning behind your brand.

3.

What do I think or feel about you?

This is how people respond to your brand.

4.

How much connection or type of association would you like your customers to have with you? This is your brand resonance or how deeply your customers bond with your brand.

When answering these questions, keep in mind the type of industry you’re in and its culture. Is it fast-paced like a restaurant or slow-pace like a relaxing spa? Some things to keep in mind are the requirements needed for the inventory of equipment and storage. Think about the traffic pattern flow.

Is your space set up for success? Some key design components that really make your space come to life is the reception area

when you greet your clients. Do you want to offer amenities? How should they be displayed? Consider people with disabilities, evacuations in case of an earthquake, the technology that is needed to run your company, lighting, furniture and sensory details (smells, accent décor, and music).

There are just so many things to consider!

We know that business owners and company CEOs desire an office space to be aesthetically pleasing and attractive. As a designer, the most important part of the design is functionality. People in company leadership roles understand that it takes a lot of time to run a business and how you spend that time is vital. That’s why when creating a branded space, it can be more desirable to hire an interior designer to help you through the process so that you can focus on running the business. There are many thoughts and questions that need to be answered and interior designers are experienced with the processes and can guide you through them that way nothing is missed. They not only will save you time and stress, they will help minimize the risks in your remodel or new construction and they are experienced with design, ordering, receiving, and installation.

They can manage any unexpected mishaps and the punch list for the final walkthrough.

Many corporations have found that redesigning their space boosted productivity and improved company culture. Some offices have an entertainment feature for guests or employees, foosball, flat screen tv, pool table etc. Some companies have showers and sleep areas for their employees. They make it so comfortable that you don’t need to leave. In the state of Washington (RCW 43.70.640) it is required to have a mother’s room for the

employee so that they can breastfeed their baby. I had a personal experience of not having an adequate space to pump breast milk. As a woman, it felt uncomfortable and I felt embarrassed at times. The company

I worked for did not realize this and then quickly provided a space. We all have our own needs and the office space should be designed to support everyone’s needs within the company brand.
