A stroll down Phinney/Greenwood Avenue reveals trees that have been planted as part of a city-wide program geared at cleaning the air and water. You can shop at the local farmers market or rent tools from the PNA tool library to fix up your home. You’ll see people walking and biking to run their errands. You’ll stop in shops stocked with second-hand toys and art supplies. And high above the hustle and bustle of the streets, the Phinney ridge Community Solar array helps power all the action.
Phinney/Greenwood is also focused on resiliency. A great example of this is the Phinney Hub, a community organization that brings together neighbors, government agencies and local organizations to exchange information, share resources and problem solve potential disasters to minimize catastrophe and ensure expedited recovery.
These community driven efforts have earned the area a reputation as one of the greenest ‘hoods in Seattle, a place where so many people and businesses are tuned into treading lightly on the planet, and where “reduce, reuse, recycle” is a way of life.

The mission of the PNA Business Group is to connect, support and promote our community businesses, helping to make Greenwood and Phinney a great neighborhood to live, work and play. The PNA Business Advisory Group leads and guides our local businesses through the PNA Business supported community events and activities. Thanks to these PNA Business Advisory Group Members for their inspiring leadership and commitment to our community.
Jamie Clausen, co-owner of Phinney Estate Law, is a founding member of the PNA Business Group. She helped create and now organizes rainbow Hop, the annual Pride event for children and families. This is a great way to meet other business owners and publicize your business’s commitment to inclusion.
Tim Corrigan, AvP & Store Manager of umpqua Bank, helps plan and implement the PNA Business Group events. He chairs the Business Marketing Committee working to support the event committees and further promote the PhinneyWood business community and PNA Business Group membership.
Alicia diefenbach, Community relations Specialist at verity Credit union, became involved before verity even opened their new branch on Greenwood. Alicia chairs the Holiday Promotions Committee and participates on the ArtWalk Committee and Summer Streets Committee.
Sondra Firestein is the chair of the Business Advisory Group and leads the Social & Networking Committee. She is also the founder and owner of Pursuit Concierge, which helps people tackle their never-ending to-do lists by providing personal assistants to take on errands and tasks.
Jen Larsen, of the Woodland Park Zoo, has enjoyed working with the PNA Business Advisory Group from its inception. She participates in the Holiday Promotions Committee and loves coming up with fun and engaging events that help to bring the community together.
Bryan Miller, General Manager/Co-Owner of Naked City Brewery & Taphouse, is the co-chair of the PhinneyWood Summer Streets Committee. Bryan also co-chairs the PhinneyWood Arts Council, is a member of the Holiday Promotions Committee and past chair of the Business Marketing Committee.
Bret Mulholland, General Manager of A-1 Pianos, started with the company while in high school, doing bookkeeping and moving pianos. Years later, he returned and took over the day-to-day running of the business. He is a founding member of the Business Advisory Group and serves on the Business Marketing Committee and the PhinneyWood Summer Streets Committee.
Molli Piper, Programming Director/Owner of Illumination Learning Studio, has been a PNA member for 3 years and joined the Advisory Group this year, participating in the Summer Streets Committee, and Holiday Promotions Committee and she is “having a blast participating!”
Chris robinson, Director of Development and Communications for vOAWW, works with the PNA Business Advisory Group to help raise awareness of our Greenwood Food Bank and the needs that exist in the Greenwood Community. Through events that the PNA Business Advisory Group supports, Chris organizes the food and fund drives that help feed our neighbors in need.
Coach Lisa Stuebing is a medical fitness specialist and owner of Mud Puddle Fitness, which specializes in access for affordable fitness and wellness for older adults. Lisa has been a PNA Advisory Group Member for 2 years and organizes the Senior resource Fair at Summer Streets.

Every August for the last four years, neighborhood businesses have come together to produce Phinneywood Summer Streets. This community street fair closes down Greenwood Avenue to cars and opens the streets to pedestrians, skates, and bikes from 12-5pm on a Saturday afternoon.
Starting in early January, business owners come together monthly and volunteer hundreds of hours to planning this outstanding community event. Beyond the time they donate, businesses also produce activities and events free of charge for all attendees. “This event is about giving back to all of our neighbors,” says Bryan Miller, co-owner of Naked City Brewery and Taphouse and event chair. “Folks support our businesses year round, and we have such a great community here. This annual event is just a small token of our appreciation.”
The event features live music, an eclectic mix of activities for adults and kids, including a dog agility course, expert skateboard performances, and a BBQ smoke-off! Attendees enjoy dance performances, live art, and youth/adult divisions for the Greenwood Street Soccer Tournament.
At the heart of PhinneyWood Summer Streets is a charitable cause. Between contributions and sponsorships this event has raised close to $19,000 which the businesses donate to the Innovator’s Network at Fred Hutch Cancer research Center.

n The Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company aka The Bureau of Fearless ideas – Near the corner of 85th and Greenwood you can buy a bottle of uncertainty for less than $10. It is, of course, just a jar; its surrounding shop – the Greenwood Space Travel Supply Company – isn’t just a novelty store, however. In truth, it is a storefront funding The Bureau of Fearless Ideas (BFI), a nonprofit writing and tutoring center. n Phinneywood Art Up & Chow down –For 20 years, PhinneyWood folks have been strolling along Phinney and Greenwood avenues popping into businesses to enjoy and purchase art at one of the city’s oldest neighborhood art walks. The monthly art walk takes place every second Friday of the month 6-9pm and promotes over 40 participating venues in the Greenwood-Phinney neighborhood. n Pride rainbow hop – Each June, local businesses host family-friendly activities to kick off Pride month in Seattle. PhinneyWood brings a unique flavor to celebrating the holidays. The celebration starts with the Woodland Park Zoo’s Wildlights. Wild animals and wild places are recreated in thousands of sparkling LED lights. Experience amazing indoor and outdoor light displays, see a few animal friends—including visiting reindeer—have a faux-snowball fight with your family, and enjoy carolers singing the joy of the holiday season.
up the street from the Zoo, the PhinneyWood business district will come to life with 200 LED-lit monkeys. Monkey season will kick-off with the lighting of the GloCone at the Phinney Center’s Air raid Tower at 5 pm on November 28. Look for red Monkey Specials on Wednesdays throughout the holiday season at businesses displaying red monkeys. If you’re 12 years old or younger, solve weekly Monkey Scavenger Hunts to be entered into prize drawings. Hop off and on the Emerald City Trolley for a monkey tour on December 11 during the monthly neighborhood

There’s more than monkeys in PhinneyWood this holiday season. Brew Santa comes to Naked City Taphouse and Brewery for a tree lighting and Bing Cherry Ale on December 3. On December 5 and 6, the PNA Winter Festival and Craft’s Fair features over 100 artists and crafts vendors, two stages of entertainment and good food for your holiday shopping needs. The PNA Giving Tree gives you the opportunity to share the holiday spirit with those in need.
