Dear Sister, Sometimes you will be too much woman; too beautiful, too smart, too strong, too something. It will make other women feel threatened which will make you feel like you must be guarded and not allow anyone in. The biggest mistake you can make is removing the jewels from your crown to make it more comfortable for women to accept you. My sister, know that in this moment you do not need to hide or adjust your crown! Remember God has EVERYONE and EVERYTHING you need. If He gives you the talent, mission, or goal, as long as you put in the work and surround yourself with likeminded, praying individuals, God will provide everything you need when you need it. I am a living testimony and have learned that life is better when you don’t give power to what is happening around you, but stay focused on what is happening inside of you. : Overcoming Negative Emotions
Life is a journey to purpose. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that we were created with a purpose and Gods plan is to prosper us and not to harm; to give us hope and a future. Many of us quote this scripture often, but when the trials of life come these promises can be hard to hold on to and negative emotions overwhelm us. What do you do when your emotions don’t agree with God’s promises? Do you allow your negative emotions to drown out the word of God over your life or do you put on the armor of God and STAND on the promises (Ephesians 6:10)?
Here are a few tips to Overcome Negative emotions. Assess the emotion. Fact or Feeling? Asking this question is a step to de-escalating the negative emotions. As humans many of our first thoughts and emotions are negative; always thinking the worse outcome is going to manifest. These negative thoughts and emotions can come from a generational way of thinking, traumatic pasts (PTSD), or low self-esteem (feeling unworthy of good things). When negative emotions come it is important that we stop the negative thought loop and ask ourselves is this a Fact or a Feeling? Many times, we will find that the negative thoughts that lead to the negative emotions are NOT factual.
Resist & Assist- Overcoming anything requires us to DO SOMETHING! Many times, we allow the negative emotions to run freely in our mind and body. To overcome negative emotions, we must RESIST them and ASSIST positive thoughts and emotions. The Bible tells us to renew our minds daily to be able to test and prove what is the good, acceptable, and perfect will of God! This tells me that EVERY thought and emotion that I have must be tested against the word of God (assessed) after which we must ACT by stopping the negative thought loop and REPLACING it with a positive thought loop (affirmation and scripture). Therapist call this ‘thought interruption’.
Journal The Journey. Overcoming negative emotions is not an overnight journey. We must give ourselves grace and love on the journey. Not doing so will increase negative self-talk which empowers negative emotions. By journaling our experiences, we have something tangible to look back at and see how far we have come and have documented the positive steps we are making and the battles we have won. We can see that we have a 100% WINNING record! We can see that we are MORE THAN CONQUERORS (Romans 8:37) and whatever negative feeling we are experiencing will pass allowing us to Assist the positive thoughts and emotions into our heart and mind. When we do this, we will begin to see that we are in control! We can control our thoughts and emotions.

As a Girl On Fire how do you define Empowerment? Empowerment is the authority or power given to someone to do something. It can be in life, community, business, politics, etc. I define it as the process of becoming stronger and more confident in controlling one’s life and claiming one’s rights. I empower others by motivating and encouraging them to go after what they want. When I think about empowerment when it comes to myself the phrase that come to mind is self-determination. With the help of God, I give the power to myself to take control and responsibility for my life and everything that I want. I’ve learned to empower myself! I don’t look to anyone to motivate, encourage, or empower me. If it’s something I want, I take it to God first and after I get His approval, I go claim what I want no matter how hard it is or who says I can’t do or have it!
What is the inspiration behind your entrepreneurial journey and fashion brand? I have always loved sunglasses and fashion eyewear and used to have to search hard to find fashion eyewear that I liked. When I would wear sunglasses, I would always get compliments and people would always ask where I got them. I went to a business conference in Florida, and had purchased lots of sunglasses (at least 15 pair) to wear while I was there. There were a least 500 women from all over the United States at this conference and they were going crazy over my eyewear. I was having lunch on the beach and a woman approached me and literally bought the sunglasses off my face. By the end of the day, I was in my hotel room selling the sunglasses that I had purchased for my trip to the women at this conference. The next day a couple of the women approached me and told me that I should sell sunglasses. I laughed and said, ‘yeah right!’ We went to dinner and by the end of that evening they had my new business venture all figured out for me or so they thought. I continued to laugh it off, but it stuck in my head. I came home and shared with my business partner, and he said that’s not a bad idea but if you’re going to do it don’t just sell sunglasses you need to create your own line of sunglasses. I pondered on that for a while and then decided that I wanted to create a brand that offered unique, trendy, statement making eyewear. I did just that and took me and my business partner’s first names combined them and named the brand Andrea Lamar.
How have you overcome trials of entrepreneurship and being an influencer (Girl On Fire)? I have overcome many trials by staying grounded and seeking God first, my business partner, and my success coach for counsel. I have also subscribed to the fact that quitting is not an option. No matter how hard it gets I dig deep, do some self-empowerment, and keep pushing.

In addition to seeking God Andrea created and sought wisdom from her team of QUALIFIED individuals. She spoke of consulting with her business partner and success coach! NOBODY wins alone!
