Advent Litany: Peace

LLEADER: A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots. The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

PEOPLE: Come, long-expected Prince of Peace ignite in me anew, a hunger for peace in the world, peace in my community, peace in my home, and peace within me.

LEADER: God did not promise that the world would be humane and just, nor would it be free from war and disagreements. However, God did give us a gift, the Lord of Peace Himself, with the promise to give us peace.

PEOPLE: Come, long-expected Prince of Peace ignite in me anew, a hunger for peace in the world, peace in my community, peace in my home, and peace within me.

LEADER: We are all God’s people, connected, interrelated, and interdependent on one another in a world of great division because of race, class, income, gender, ethnic culture, violence, hatred, and religion that prevents the unity of the human family. However, God did give us a gift, The Shiloh, Peace-Maker, in whom all nations will be blessed.

PEOPLE: Come, long-expected Prince of Peace, ignite in me anew, a hunger for peace in the world, peace in my community, peace in my home, and peace within me.

ALL: God calls us to do what is honorable and right. Justice and kindness make way for healing and peace. As followers of our Christ, the Prince of Peace, we have been called to peace, not only to have peace, but to make peace. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

ISAIAH 11:1-10 NRSV

1 A shoot shall come out from the stump of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.

2 The spirit of the Lord shall rest on him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

3 His delight shall be in the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge by what his eyes see, or decide by what his ears hear;

4 but with righteousness he shall judge the poor, and decide with equity for the meek of the earth; he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall kill the wicked.

5 Righteousness shall be the belt around his waist, and faithfulness the belt around his loins.

6 The wolf shall live with the lamb, the leopard shall lie down with the kid, the calf and the lion and the fatling together, and a little child shall lead them.

7 The cow and the bear shall graze, their young shall lie down together; and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.

8 The nursing child shall play over the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put its hand on the adder’s den.

9 They will not hurt or destroy on all my holy mountain; for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.

10 On that day the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples; the nations shall inquire of him, and his dwelling shall be glorious.

Women's Fellowship Meet-Up at Mabel's

S U N D A Y , D E C E M B E R 1 1 T H A F T E R S E R V I C E

Our Fellowship is truly blessed. We are blessed because we are a diverse and inclusive community. Being so, makes us grateful for each other and our friends and family, our work colleagues and community. As we move towards Christmas let’s celebrate and give thanks to our Lord and Savior. This holiday season we are going to celebrate with a Meet-up at Mabel’s on Sunday, December 11th right after service. This is what you need to bring: 1. Money to cover your lunch. 2. A gift for $10.00 or less for our Pollyanna. And, most importantly a canned good(s) for our donation to the Food Cupboard. We will need to give Mabel a count so please call the office with your RSVP by December 8th. With Much Gratitude, Sister Carolyn Chester.

Jesus Our Greatest Gift

In this Season of Celebrating

God’s Greatest Gift to us, St. Paul’s Baptist Church has an opportunity to give the gift of food. Each Sunday beginning December 4, 2022 please bring canned goods: vegetables, fruits, pasta sauces or meats. You can also bring jarred goods: peanut butter, jams, and jellies for the West Chester Food Cupboard.

If 100 of us bring one 16 oz. canned good each Sunday through December 25. 2022 we will collect and give to the West Chester Food Cupboard almost one ton of food. Please consider giving as much and as often as the Spirit of God leads. Let’s celebrate God’s gift to us by giving food to others in this time when so many are facing the challenge of food insufficiency!

Many people in the United States have some protection, or immunity, against COVID-19 due to vaccination, previous infection, or both. This immunity, combined with the availability of tests and treatments, has greatly reduced the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19 for many people.

The CDC has stated “We’re in a stronger place today as a nation, with more tools—like vaccination, boosters, and treatments—to protect ourselves, and our communities, from severe illness from COVID-19. We also have a better understanding of how to protect people from being exposed to the virus.”

Because we have better tools to protect ourselves against COVID19, the CDC has lifted most COVID19 restrictions. However, we are recommending that we gradually reduce mitigation strategies against COVID 19 for our congregation.

Our first step is that we will no longer require social distancing for our Sunday services. We will still require masking at all times while in the sanctuary. We will continue to encourage anyone who is feeling ill to please stay at home. We are requesting people who are immunocompromised or have other chronic illnesses to wear N95 protective masks. We encourage everyone to get vaccinated and boosted.

We will continue to closely monitor COVID 19 data locally and nationally over the next few weeks. We will revisit COVID19 mitigation strategies for St. Paul’s Baptist in October. We thank you for your cooperation.

COVID Funeral Assistance

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought overwhelming grief to many families. At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters. We are dedicated to helping ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the virus.

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.

We are working with stakeholder groups to get their input on ways we can best provide this assistance, and to enlist their help with outreach to families and communities. FEMA will begin to implement COVID-19 funeral assistance in April.

Additional guidance is being finalized and will be released to potential applicants and community partners as soon as possible. In the meantime, people who have COVID-19 funeral expenses are encouraged to keep and gather documentation.
