“We don’t need another political uprising. We don’t need another conqueror on the scene. What we need is a special word, that will bond within our hearts and give us direction from above. We need a Word from the Lord. A Word from the Lord. Just one Word from the Lord, will remove all the doubts and cause the sun to shine and give peace of mind. Speak Lord, Speak Lord.”

Advent Litany: Hope

LEADER: The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfil the promise, I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David; and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The Lord is our righteousness.’

PEOPLE: The Lord, our Righteousness and Hope of all nations.

LEADER: Jeremiah was imprisoned for criticizing King Zedekiah. Nebuchadnezzar’s armies are advancing on Jerusalem and the city is doomed. In the midst of a catastrophic situation, God came to the prophet and Jeremiah speaks a word of resolute Promise and tenacious Hope. There will be a King and He shall reign in righteousness.

PEOPLE: The Lord, our Righteousness and Hope of all nations.

LEADER: Even though the advancing armies of economic instability, rising gas and food prices; unaffordable housing; economic, racial & social injustice; gun violence and mental illness; and fear and uncertainty continue to encroach upon the citizens of this 21st century nation, for each of us, and for this world there remains, a resolute Promise and a tenacious Hope.

PEOPLE: The Lord, our Righteousness and Hope of all nations.

LEADER: God promised that a Messiah would come, the people lived in hope for forty-two generations, and He came, born of virgin, in a common stable, and was laid in the hay in a wooden manger. In Him there was a resolute Promise and a tenacious Hope. The throne will never be empty, and the debt will be forever paid.

ALL: We serve a God that does not shield us from life. God gave us a Righteous Branch, the Gift of Hope. Instill Hope in us. Make us vessels of Hope. Awaken us to Hope.

36 “But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 37 For as the days of Noah were, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, 39 and they knew nothing until the flood came and swept them all away, so too will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two will be in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. 41 Two women will be grinding meal together; one will be taken and one will be left. 42 Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But understand this: if the owner of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an unexpected hour.

Jesus Our Greatest Gift

In this Season of Celebrating

God’s Greatest Gift to us, St. Paul’s Baptist Church has an opportunity to give the gift of food. Each Sunday beginning December 4, 2022 please bring canned goods: vegetables, fruits, pasta sauces or meats. You can also bring jarred goods: peanut butter, jams, and jellies for the West Chester Food Cupboard.

If 100 of us bring one 16 oz. canned good each Sunday through December 25. 2022 we will collect and give to the West Chester Food Cupboard almost one ton of food. Please consider giving as much and as often as the Spirit of God leads. Let’s celebrate God’s gift to us by giving food to others in this time when so many are facing the challenge of food insufficiency!

S U N D A Y , D E C E M B E R 1 1 T H A F T E R S E R V I C E

Our Fellowship is truly blessed. We are blessed because we are a diverse and inclusive community. Being so, makes us grateful for each other and our friends and family, our work colleagues and community. As we move towards Christmas let’s celebrate and give thanks to our Lord and Savior. This holiday season we are going to celebrate with a Meet-up at Mabel’s on Sunday, December 11th right after service. This is what you need to bring: 1. Money to cover your lunch. 2. A gift for $10.00 or less for our Pollyanna. And, most importantly a canned good(s) for our donation to the Food Cupboard. We will need to give Mabel a count so please call the office with your RSVP by December 8th. With Much Gratitude, Sister Carolyn Chester.

Many people in the United States have some protection, or immunity, against COVID-19 due to vaccination, previous infection, or both. This immunity, combined with the availability of tests and treatments, has greatly reduced the risk of severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19 for many people.

The CDC has stated “We’re in a stronger place today as a nation, with more tools—like vaccination, boosters, and treatments—to protect ourselves, and our communities, from severe illness from COVID-19. We also have a better understanding of how to protect people from being exposed to the virus.”

Because we have better tools to protect ourselves against COVID19, the CDC has lifted most COVID19 restrictions. However, we are recommending that we gradually reduce mitigation strategies against COVID 19 for our congregation.

Our first step is that we will no longer require social distancing for our Sunday services. We will still require masking at all times while in the sanctuary. We will continue to encourage anyone who is feeling ill to please stay at home. We are requesting people who are immunocompromised or have other chronic illnesses to wear N95 protective masks. We encourage everyone to get vaccinated and boosted.

We will continue to closely monitor COVID 19 data locally and nationally over the next few weeks. We will revisit COVID19 mitigation strategies for St. Paul’s Baptist in October. We thank you for your cooperation.

COVID Funeral Assistance

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought overwhelming grief to many families. At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters. We are dedicated to helping ease some of the financial stress and burden caused by the virus.

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA will provide financial assistance for COVID-19-related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.

We are working with stakeholder groups to get their input on ways we can best provide this assistance, and to enlist their help with outreach to families and communities. FEMA will begin to implement COVID-19 funeral assistance in April.

Additional guidance is being finalized and will be released to potential applicants and community partners as soon as possible. In the meantime, people who have COVID-19 funeral expenses are encouraged to keep and gather documentation.
