WINDTECHNIC WILL BUILD CONCRETE TOWERS FOR THREENEWWINDFARMSINSOUTHAFRICA windtechnic

Windtechnic Engineering SL, specialized in design and construction of precast concrete towers, has started the construction of towers in Middelburg (Eastern Cape) together with its local South African partners

Windtechnic, through its South African company THAYVONA CONCRETE SUPPLIERS (Pty) LTD, will supply 78 turnkey towers for the Coleskop, Phezukomoya, and San Kraal wind farms for Round 5 REIPPP The projects are developed and owned by EDF Renewables (South Africa) The towers will support G165/5.6MW Goldwind wind turbines at 124 m height

Once the project is finished, the aim of the company is to continue using this precast facility to serve other new wind farms that may be granted in the short-mid term in the surrounding areas

In order to guarantee the success of the project, Windtechnic has established strong partnerships with some local South African companies. While the manufacturing of the towers is performed in collaboration with WBHO Construction (Pty) Ltd and Concrete Units (Pty) Ltd, the installation is conducted in cooperation with Renew Installations (Pty) Ltd All companies have extensive experience in the wind energy sector, both in South Africa and abroad

But this is not the first and only project that Windtechnic has developed in South Africa

Previously, in 2014 and 2019, 93 towers were manufactured for two other wind farms: Gouda and Roggeveld Both projects were carried out in collaboration with Concrete Units in their already existing facility in Cape Town. These 100 m hub height towers, which support 3 MW rated capacity Nordex wind turbines, were successfully built and are currently fully operational

The structural design of the towers was completed by Windtechnic from its main headquarters located in San Sebastián (Spain) and certified in December 2022 by TÜV NORD For the manufacturing of the towers, the construction of a temporary factory in Middelburg, close to the wind farm sites, has been required The new plant counts with a production capacity of 2 5 towers per week and will create nearly 400 jobs, most of them from local communities

Furthermore, in parallel to the ongoing projects in South Africa, Windtechnic is also working on the design and construction of high-rise wind towers for clients around the world

With over 100 tower designs, 16 certifications, and 700 constructed towers worldwide, Windtechnic is continuously seeking the enhancement of these precast towers Its goal is clear: to expand the use of concrete structures throughout the world, favoring local content and reducing environmental impact

Windtechnic has its roots in a local Spanish precast producer from the 60s that were mainly focused on civil construction work The company entered the wind energy market in 2005 to utilize its extensive backgroundknowledge to build cost-efficient towers Since then, the entity has developed a strong technical workforce, deep market knowhow, and a network of suppliers and partners all over the world
