FLYING HIGH WITH TAAG ANGOLA AIRLINES:

MEET THE CEO BEHIND THE CLOUD NINE!

Interview with Eduardo Fairen Soria, CEO, TAAG Angola Airlines

Elevating cross-border trade to new heights, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce RSA extends a warm invitation to its members and friends to connect with the distinguished CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines

A valued member of the Chamber, the airline's CEO serves as a beacon that drives international trade.

1 TAAG Angola Airlines is undergoing significant restructuring. Can you tell us more about it?

To mark our transformation, we have established our new headquarters in the modern location of Talatona in Angola and launched an enhanced website Crucial to our reformation are partnerships with Iberia and Gol, broadening our footprint to 42 destinations in Europe and 40 in the Americas

We are accommodating the company procedures to the best practices within the industry and recruiting talent We are upgrading our fleet within a multi-brand strategy so we have assured operational efficiency matching the aircraft with the proper flight typology Thus we have orders ongoing for narrow body Airbus A 220s set to be delivered from April 2024 ahead, and are engaged in negotiations for wide-body fleet replacements

Our business blueprint for 2023-2027 envisions making TAAG the key aviation connector within Africa and to the rest of the world

The restructuring process also includes a switch to a more flexible external GSA system, and a strategic withdrawal from non-core services. Overall, our goal is to realign TAAG with current market realities and cement our standing in the international aviation scene

2. Is privatisation on the horizon?

The Angolan Government's idea is to privatise the aviation sector, as commencing in January 2025, the country will be covered by the "open skies agreement", the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) Prior to the privatisation, TAAG Management Board is inducted to restructure and drive the transformation within the company

The outcome is to align TAAG with the best practices in aviation and implement a roadmap for business growth. So far, there is no formal process or deadline for the privatisation to occur, only expressions of interest from large companies/investors, local and external In any case, please bear in mind that the privatisation process is managed directly by the Angola state via IGAPE (Institute for the Management of State Assets and Equity)

Q&A SESSION PAGE |6 SPANISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SOUTH AFRICA
ora

3. How will implementing the African Open Sky policy affect TAAG Angola Airlines and its operations across the continent?

Implementing the African Open Sky policy, or the Yamoussoukro Agreement, will bring about significant changes for TAAG Angola Airlines, and we're set to join the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) in 2025 However, we do harbour concerns, mainly centred around fair competition Predatory commercial practices and price dumping pose significant challenges to African airlines, TAAG included The crux here is that without implementing proper safeguards and regulations, opening up traffic rights might unintentionally erode the competitive standing of most African airlines We believe this policy could favour growth, but it should be handled carefully to ensure a level playing field

4. We've heard about the exciting New Luanda International Airport set to open in 2024. How will it impact TAAG's operations and the aviation industry in Angola? Will it influence visa processes?

The opening of Luanda’s new International Airport in the first half of 2024 marks a transformative milestone for TAAG Angola Airlines and Angola's aviation industry. Shifting operations to this new facility will be a challenge that we and other airlines are ready to embrace This airport, capable of handling 25 million passengers and 50 thousand tons annually, will significantly augment our operational opportunities. With two parallel runways and advanced facilities, it is set to be Africa's most innovative hub and will greatly facilitate our operations, helping elevate our connectivity level

The airport's opening aligns with our aim to reestablish TAAG as the central hub for Southern Africa, connecting Africa, the Americas, and Europe We are adjusting our operational model to operate as a connector, bringing more regional connectivity, linking domestic and inter-continental services, and opening new and strengthening existing destinations

egarding visa processes, the Angolan authorities, in tandem with the tourism sector, are undertaking efforts to streamline these administrative issues The new airport's advanced infrastructure and technological capacity will offer optimised conditions for migration services to handle visa procedures, facilitating a more open and welcoming Angola

5. Air cargo services are vital for economic development. How does TAAG Angola Airlines facilitate air cargo transportation and contribute to the growth of industries in Angola and beyond?

Air cargo services are a cornerstone of TAAG Angola Airlines, serving our strategic interests and bolstering economic growth. This commitment reflects our geographical advantage, connecting Asia and South America via Africa, and despite the shortage of suitable cargo aircraft, we are exploring all options, including new acquisitions. During the pandemic, we experienced robust cargo traffic and continue to meet steady cargo demand from China, South America, and Africa Our ambition to expand this service involves utilising larger aircraft and sourcing freighters until we establish our own fleet. We aim to strengthen our link between import/export hubs through our vital cargo services, thereby contributing to industry growth in Angola and beyond

6. How has your fleet become more ecofriendly?

TAAG's adoption of the Airbus A220 technology demonstrates our commitment to sustainable practices in aviation Known for their quality, comfort, and fuel economy, these aircraft are a significant step towards greener operations. This move aligns with the mandate from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and International Air Transport Association (IATA) to reduce the environmental impact of the aviation sector. With aviation being essential for global connectivity, adopting new aircraft construction and engine development technologies is crucial

Q&A SESSION PAGE |7 SPANISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SOUTH AFRICA

These technologies show meaningful progress in fuel efficiency, with each generational transition taking about 20 to 25 years. However, we are mindful of the additional challenges that lie ahead The production and implementation of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) in Africa remain under exploration due to its cost and the industrial capacity needed for large-scale production. As the flagship airline of Angola, it's our social responsibility to confront these challenges and strive for a more sustainable future

7 How do the aviation industry's goals to become more environmentally friendly and sustainable impact you and other African airlines?

The aviation industry's push towards environmental sustainability, particularly the European obligation for 2% SAF on all departing flights, has substantial implications for African airlines. This measure poses significant challenges

As we currently lack SAF production facilities, the implementation timeline appears unrealistic. Moreover, Africa's resource constraints make such measures particularly challenging to uphold It harks back to the noise abatement restrictions in 1995, which required years for effective implementation

While the move towards sustainability is undoubtedly vital and commendable, the timing and resource requirements for such changes must be realistically evaluated, particularly in African regions Hence, Africa must stand its ground and advocate for sustainable practices tailored to its unique constraints and capacities

8 What does the future hold for TAAG Angola Airlines?

TAAG Angola Airlines has ambitious plans for the future TAAG is working to make Luanda a strategic hub in Africa for East-West and North-South air transport, boosted by organic growth or code-share partnerships

We recently presented our 2023-2027 business plan, envisioning TAAG as the preferred choice for connecting Africa with the world and within the region This involves transforming TAAG into a modern, innovative airline with operational excellence, commercial superiority, organisational efficiency, and financial sustainability as its strategic pillars

As part of our growth plan, we've ordered 15 Airbus A220-300 model aircraft, with deliveries starting from April 2024 Our fleet, currently consisting of 21 aircrafts, is set to grow to 50 by 2027, indicating our commitment to significant growth

We're confident in our vision, ready to inspire the world with our energy, and eager to make dreams take off

Windtechnic Engineering SL, specialized in design and construction of precast concrete towers, has started the construction of towers in Middelburg (Eastern Cape) together with its local South African partners

Windtechnic, through its South African company THAYVONA CONCRETE SUPPLIERS (Pty) LTD, will supply 78 turnkey towers for the Coleskop, Phezukomoya, and San Kraal wind farms for Round 5 REIPPP The projects are developed and owned by EDF Renewables (South Africa) The towers will support G165/5.6MW Goldwind wind turbines at 124 m height

These 100 m hub height towers, which support 3 MW rated capacity Nordex wind turbines, were successfully built and are currently fully operational

The structural design of the towers was completed by Windtechnic from its main headquarters located in San Sebastián (Spain) and certified in December 2022 by TÜV NORD For the manufacturing of the towers, the construction of a temporary factory in Middelburg, close to the wind farm sites, has been required The new plant counts with a production capacity of 2 5 towers per week and will create nearly 400 jobs, most of them from local communities

RC CELTA AND PEREIRA OCEAN PRODUCTS JOIN

FORCESINSOUTHAFRICATOSUPPORTANDDEVELOP THECELTAACADEMYINEVATON

PereiraOceanProducts

The academy in the Evaton township just outside of Johannesburg was started in 2001 by current chairman, Themba Dlamini, drawing inspiration from and paying homage to the exploits of international striker Benni McCarthy’s stint in LaLiga at Celta Vigo from 1999 to 2003

Dlamini first made contact with RC Celta through the mediation of Pereira Ocean Products, a South African company in which Grupo Pereira has a participating interest, and the relationship has come full circle as the company and RC Celta, through its Foundation, joined forces to support the academy

During the signing of the Celta academy agreement, Pereira highlighted "the enormous work that Celta Academy Evaton does with the local community in supporting young people with scarce resources and training them in the values that football brings as a sport".

Pereira Ocean Products, in line with its corporate social responsibility policy and with the support of LaLiga club RC Celta has given a huge boost to the Evaton Celta Academy through becoming and official sponsor to help develop the football academy in Johannesburg Contributions, among others, include the improvement of its facilities, practical training and official equipment. To goals of all parties are to develop football, at grassroot level, in South Africa and contribute to educating young people in the values of the sport and providing them real opportunities for a future in football

The academy now has 200 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 17, who proudly represent and wear the colours of the LaLiga club and Pereira logo, participate in local league football With the help of sponsors such as Pereira Ocean Products, the Celta Foundation will also send some of its coaches to Evaton and will receive players and coaches from the Celta Academy Evaton in Vigo for the continuation of their training and sports education.

In April 2023, the sponsorship has seen the first members of the Evaton Academy make their way to Spain for training At the head of the expedition was Themba Dlamini along with two other coaches, Bafana Mabaso and Sizwe Mehlwana. Like his companions, it is the first time he has left his country, something he never thought he would have the opportunity to do Here they are soaking up the Celta methodology, but also a new culture "People are very welcoming and the city is very safe," in contrast to where they come from. Being here is a dream come true, he says

NEWS AND INSIGHTS PAGE |11 SPANISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SOUTH AFRICA
The endorsement between José Enrique Pereira, CEO of Pereira Group, and Carlos Mouriño, President of RC Celta, was signed in October 2022 This formalised the commitment of the two entities to the support and promotion of the Celta Academy Evaton school

They were surprised by how "serious and professional" everything is in Celta's day-today life, during the training sessions at the quarry. They have been teaching them the ins and outs of how the club works, focusing on aspects that they can put into practice, such as how to treat children or utilise resources, as well as the methodology

Marcos Alonso Rial, the coordinator of the celestial international schools, was in Evaton a few months ago to evaluate what they did to establish the starting point to help them improve. They sent them manuals, but now they have the opportunity to see it with their “own eyes”

Each of the three South African coaches will return with a suitcase with equipment in perfect condition donated by youth players, including kits, boots and socks "Many children play with a shoe of each color, or of a size that is not theirs , " says Dlamini, who also admits that they now feel "a bit of pressure due to the expectations placed" on their project.

Scholarships are another incentive, so that some of their players can spend a few weeks training in Vigo "Hopefully after that, they can come back here and try to break through," he wishes. Dlamini adds that who knows if in their nearly 200 children there are not one or more future Benni McCarthy’s “Maybe we have a little Benni among us who may come here to train We are very grateful for how generous Celta and Pereira are being with us," he underlines

All in all, the three coaches including Themba Dlamini, that recently visited the Celta Academy in Vigo, felt that they spent a fruitful 10 days in April there and returned armed with greater skills to benefit their local football club Dlamini said, “It was very informative and a lifetime opportunity for us We were treated with respect and love We met lovely people from Celta and the Pereira Management.”

The Celta Academy and the Pereira Group have committed to sending 5 players to Spain per year for training. This is still in the plan for this year but Dlamini hopes that in the future, there will be more opportunities to bring a team to play friendly games and tournaments in Spain

The Celta children in South Africa all reference the Vigo team. But being able to watch the games is impossible. "They are very small communities, some of them don't even have electricity at home, so much less television," says Themba In a disadvantaged area where sport is a way to prevent children from falling into "other things", the Evaton school has always been an incentive for children The idea has grown that the school is related to a Spanish Primera club and the belief is that this shall continue to have a call effect

BILATERAL TRADE AGREEMENTS: UNRAVELLING THE IMPACT ON BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES BETWEEN SOUTHAFRICAANDSPAIN

Mikel Echevarria Acha | International Trade Advisor Intern at SpanishChamberofCommerceinRSA

From distant lands to shared ambitions, the bilateral trade between South Africa and Spain weaves a tale of cooperation and mutual benefit This article provides an overview on how South Africa and Spain's dynamic partnership fosters a realm of possibilities, propelling growth and prosperity for both countries

We define Bilateral Trade as the “exchange of goods between two nations promoting trade and investment where the two countries will reduce or eliminate tariffs, import quotas, export restraints, and other trade barriers to encourage trade and investment between both countries” In light of this, bilateral trade agreements play a key role in shaping economic relations between countries, fostering opportunities for trade, investment and business collaboration In the context of South Africa and Spain, these agreements have the potential to open up new avenues for further growth and development, benefiting businesses in both nations

Historical Context

In order to understand what the diplomatic relations are at the present time between Spain and South Africa, it is necessary to review the past Diplomatic relations between Spain and South Africa date back to the 19th century, but in reality, it was in 1993 that the two nations formally established full diplomatic ties Since then, the partnership has continued to grow, with an increasing focus on economic collaboration Spain, one of Europe's leading economies, and South Africa, the most developed nation in Sub-Saharan Africa, recognized the benefits of closer ties to explore new markets, promote investment and expand trade opportunities

Trade Volume and Balance

Over the years, bilateral trade between Spain and South Africa has revealed a notable upward trend Both countries have experienced an increase in the volume of trade, with a diversification of goods and services Spanish exports to South Africa mainly include machinery, pharmaceuticals, vehicles and electrical equipment, while South Africa exports to Spain are precious metals, minerals, fruit and wine

Although the volume of trade between the two nations has been growing, ongoing efforts are being made to address trade imbalances and explore untapped potential in other sectors By identifying complementary areas of expertise, Spain and South Africa aim to achieve a more balanced and fruitful trade relationship

NEWS AND INSIGHTS PAGE |16 SPANISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SOUTH AFRICA
