Sustainability and Life Cycle Costing: The 3CR12 Electrification Masts Case Study There is a worldwide focus to maintain the ecological

costs,

maintenance

and

refurbishment costs, cost of lost production due to downtime and possible replacement cost over a defined products’ lifespan.

Corrosion is the natural gradual deterioration of metals reacting with their environment, as they revert to their natural occurring state. Corrosion degrades the useful properties of metals and structures including their strength and structural integrity. For example, carbon steels are made up of iron and a combination of other alloying elements. Without any additional surface protection, they tend to form a layer of rust

(iron-oxide);

which

exfoliates, exposing a new fresh layer of steel to be attacked. This cycle repeats, with devastating effects to equipment and structures due to the resultant loss
