When Marion Poirier and Thomas Geissmann visited Geissmann’s ­elderly uncle in France, he gave them a stack of lovely old handkerchiefs that sparked an idea. The couple now sells their TSHU line – a modern twist on the cotton swatch – through their website and in such fashionforward shops as Simons. Designed, silkscreened and embroidered in Montreal, the handkerchiefs come in patterns like skulls and bones on pink, a chic grey paisley and a cube motif that recalls Habitat 67. Singlesided versions work best as pocket squares, while double-sided ones make for stylish sandwich wrappers.

“When people buy a gift, they like it to be bold,” Poirier says. Eco-bonus: A tree is planted for each TSHU sold.

BATA SHOE MUSEUM My grandmother, Sonja Bata, founded this museum.

She always said you could learn a lot about a person by looking at their shoes. The collection includes Marilyn Monroe’s pumps and a training boot for the lunar ­landing.  C’est ma grand-mère, Sonja Bata, qui a créé ce musée. Elle avait coutume de dire que les chaussures en disent long sur la personne qui les porte. PLAYA CABANA My husband and I come here often enough that the ­bartender sends over tequila, even on a Monday night.

I always order the soft chicken tacos, and my husband gets the burrito. It’s very much the perfect neighbourhood nook for a quick and easy dinner out.  Mon mari et moi venons ici souvent, au point que le barman nous sert d’office une téquila, même un lundi soir. 02 | Dutch choreographer Didy Veldman dreamed of transforming the story into dance when she first read it in her twenties. Three years ago, she did so for the first time for Les Grands Ballets, working with composer Philip Feeney, whose e ­ clectic score features Bach and avant-garde Finnish musician Kimmo Pohjonen.  La chorégraphe néerlandaise Didy Veldman rêvait d’adapter ce récit pour la danse depuis qu’elle l’a lu dans la vingtaine. The restaurant doesn’t have a bad seat in the house, which means you can dig into a bacon, avocado and jalapeno burger while watching the game.

The menu also boasts Mark’s favourite turkey burger (with stuffing and orange cranberry sauce), sweet-potato tater tots, a Bostoninspired crispy haddock sandwich and Canadian wine on tap – a winning combination.  Le première succursale canadienne de la célèbre chaîne des frères Mark, Paul et Donnie Wahlberg a ouvert ses portes.
