According to Moneyfacts, the average SVR in June 2022 reached 4.91%. This is the highest recorded since February 2009. Rates can vary significantly between lenders, so you should check how much interest you’re paying and how it affects your outgoings. Even a small difference in the interest rate can save you money each month, and this adds up over the full term of your mortgage. The below table highlights

If a previous mortgage deal has ended and you’ve not taken out a new one, you could be paying a much higher rate of interest. When you take out a mortgage, the deal is for a fixed period, often two, three or five years. After this period, you’ll normally be moved on to your lender’s SVR. While this can provide more flexibility – you may wish to make overpayments, for example – the interest rate you’re paying is unlikely to be competitive.

As a mortgage is secured against your home or property, it could be repossessed if you do not keep up mortgage repayments. Think carefully before securing other debts against your home. Equity released from your home will be secured against it. Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments. Interest rate Monthly repayment

While the interest rate on a fixed-rate mortgage is likely to be initially higher than the alternatives, it will remain the same for a defined period, such as two years. This can make managing your budget easier..

The average standard variable rate for June 2022 reached 4.91% To tackle rising inflation, the Bank of England (BoE) has increased its base interest rate several times this year. Changes to the base rate affect the cost of borrowing, including mortgages.
As interest rates climb, should you choose a fixedrate mortgage? If you’re on your lender’s SVR, the interest rate you pay is variable. This means it can rise and fall each month.
how the interest rate affects finances for a £250,000 repayment mortgage with a term of 25 years.
If your mortgage isn’t fixed-rate, you’ve likely already noticed that your repayments have started to increase. As SVRs are usually higher than other types of mortgage product, homeowners that haven’t searched for a new mortgage deal could find they’re paying much more in interest than they need to.
So, if you’re paying your lender’s SVR, finding a new mortgage deal could save you money now and in the long term.

The Arles Photo Festival..continued

The event is the largest photo festival in Europe offering 40 major exhibitions housed in wonderful buildings such as museums, libraries, churches, abbeys, council premises, period properties, large work shops, disused railway sheds and the recently completed Frank Gehry building, the Luma Tower. Multiple Fringe exhibitions can be found in smaller venues and many guerrilla exhibitions are pasted on exterior walls, displayed on easels or pegged to ‘washing’ lines around the walled city. There are also multiple digital projections outside after dark.
Rencontres d’Arles
Following on from last month’s article on the Arles Photo Festival, here are more thoughts and photographs.
quieter feel as the visitors were fewer in number as was the volume of fringe events but there was so much to see and to experience. There were 40 main exhibitions and the usual fun element of photographers pasting their worked on outside walls for people to enjoy. These pasted pictures also give photographers interesting backdrops to use in their own photography as I have done Myhere.main photograph captures the work of an artist known as DOUDOU. This monochrome work sets the scene for me to wait for a passer by in red clothing to add an accent of colour in the centre of the panoramic mage. My other two photographs were observed around the town. I cannot do justice to this festival in one article so I will continue this subject in next month’s issue. Photography is allowed inside exhibitions (unlike in many UK alleries) so including other people’s art in personal photographs is fully accepted. One of my favourite things to do is to capture people interacting with art. The city of Arles was once a provincial capital of Ancient Rome and is famed for inspiring Vincent Van Gogh who en joyed his most prolific period whilst living there, producing 187 Therepaintings.isamodern museum dedicated to his life and works and an area known as Espace Van Gogh whichhas a central ornamental garden surrounded by buildings which house 4 or 5 exhibitions during the Vanfestival.Gogh enjoyed the quality of light in Southern France which is also to my liking for photography. This strong directional light provides the opportunity to take high contrast images which can have great impact. The shadows thrown add in terest to photographs and it’s a favourite trick of mine to utilise shadows to enhance my im ages. We know that the word @Photograph’ means to draw with light but of course, where there is directional light, there are strong shadows which can add a different dimension to a Youscene.can see more of my imag es here:
Obviously this means there is a lot to see but the added excitement for me are the personal photo opportunities that these displays provide.

At 6:15am a London warehouse agent, as was his official title, took delivery of the shipment and immediately dispatched it across the city to the Covent Garden market. Within 15 minutes of arrival the strawberries would be auctioned off and the retailer would ship them on for general sale. Between 7 and 8 am the same morning, a portion of Partridge Green grown strawberries could be served for breakfast in a London home or in one of the city’s many tearooms.

Mrs Collard, it was reported, worked very hard as the farm bailiff and was rewarded with a comfortable salary, a house free of rent and a pony and trap to ride in. It was said she also had a good head for business and a thorough knowledge of agriculture.
At 3 o’clock on a cold morning the farm labourers beat their hands against their bodies to get their fingers warm. Their job was to work their way up and down the West Sussex fields picking strawberries and placing them into the small white boxes that had been set out for that purpose. Each box held an average weight of 31lb of fruit and was collected by the ‘lad’. He took the boxes to Mrs Collard and her daughters, who were the bailiffs employed by Mr Gates on his farm in Partridge Green. They were seated among stacks of empty packing cases in a rough canvas shelter beside a hedge that protected them from the chilly morning breeze. It was summer 1908. With amazingly fast dexterity the Collards tidied the strawberries in the boxes by placing them in size order to make each box look as appealing as it could be. Next the boxes were weighed then placed in a packing crate. When a dozen crates had been filled with several boxes, they were labelled though the lids were not nailed down. At 4:30am a donkey pulled cart carried the first consignment of the day to the railway station to be placed on the first train to London, which departed at 4:45 am. Partridge Green station, which was on the Steyning line (also known as the Adur Valley line), had opened in 1861 and would be closed due to Beeching’s cuts in 1966. While it was in use, Partridge Green was connected by rail to Brighton via Shoreham and London via Horsham.
At 7am, back on Mr Gate’s farm in Partridge Green the number of strawberry pickers had been steadily increasing throughout the early morning and further shipments were being dispatched to London by train. The strawberries picked in the afternoon were sent to markets in the local area. Mr Gates with Mrs Collard and her daughters had established a reputation for fresh, wholesome fruit and it was said that the London auctioneer at Covent Garden market looked forward to receiving the consignment he was to sell. Retailers would bid against each other for what they considered to be some of the finest strawberries in the country, which it was said had been picked and packed by clean Nationallyhands. in 1908 the average acre of a strawberry field produced from £70 to £100 in total of fruit. The high quality of the strawberries produced at Mr Gates’ farm, with the efforts of Mrs Collard and her daughters doubled this value to a minimum of £150 per acre’s yield. There was no secret to their success and it was widely known that the fields were also planted with cucumbers and marrows between the strawberry plants. With the harvesting of these crops much the same value was reached for high quality yields.

In the 25 years the charity has been running across the County of West Sussex over 600 people, who have a mild to moderate learning disability, have been supported by wonderful volunteers and the staff team. They have been able to join in with other members of their community to attend activi ties of their choice, anything from art to yoga classes and theatre or museum trips
Over 70 people en joyed a bbq, outside and indoor activities andof course a slice of birthday cake, all held at the new Thakeham Village Hall on Saturday 6th August.Phil Downie, Chairman of the trustees for the charity said “the party was a great way to celebrate our 25th year as well as celebrating the ability to get together following two years of very restricted activi ties. With covid restrictions easing we are looking forward to organising more social and learning activities for our members to join. Without the help of our volunteers, many of whom have provided transport for the party and the fantastic members from the local Rotary Club, we wouldn’t have been able to celebrate in such style.”

Theatre design is one of the world’s most beautiful, varied and lively art forms. This lecture looks at the relationship between actor and audience and how this transformed the space and architecture of theatre through out the ages - from the Greeks to court theatre, the Globe to the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, looking at great architects, practitioners and designers. This lecture aims to bring to life the magical world of theatre.
